General WTF Moments

This was a few nights ago. Interesting that someone gets on the bus which was the last departure and the passenger asked "is this the last bus?"

Operator asked "yes, but are you going in the right direction? Because you can't backtrack." Which the passenger gave the destination and confirmed it is the right direction.

Which once the passenger reaches his stop, he literally asks for a transfer. Of course since he was told the bus he boarded was the last departure MULTIPLE times, the transfer wouldn't be valid in a few hours when service resumes in about 7 hours. Surely if you had to do something, you wouldn't do it during the very final trip or at least plan alternative transportation. The last time I was out was when special early morning service was provided. Now if that option was unavailable, I would plan alternative transportation to complete my trip rather than wait until the last minute.

Not sure what someone will expect to be open just after midnight other than a convenience store in most areas.

Customer at work today grabbed a co-worker by the shoulder while she was out in the parking lot, spun her around, and demanded that she bring his order out to him.

I'm just completely at a loss for words.

I don't know what forum to post this one in but it just showed up on CBC:  Greyhound shutting down all bus service in Canada permanently

Nice.  That's about 36 hours notice or so that it's lights out for Greyhound Canada tomorrow at midnight.  Kaput.  Done.  See ya.  Nothing yet about what happens to people who bought tickets ahead of time for trips scheduled after that.

Live in a small town?  No car?  Can't drive?  Need to go somewhere?  You're screwed.

I think it may be worse in Eastern Canada, as greyhound abandoned Western Canada quite a while ago.  Quite a few companies have stepped up, eBus, cold shot, rider express to name a few...  expect most of the routes in the east will get service again, might take a bit of time though...

So roommate picked up a few things from Safeway yesterday and hastily tossed them in the fridge because her brother was waiting downstairs for her. Among the purchases were some veggies and dip.  The veggies WERE in a factory sealed bag and the dip (Renee's Cucumber & Dill) was sealed.  Today she goes to the fridge to retrieve these and the veggies are in an IKEA ziplock bag and the dip had been unsealed and a portion missing.  Neither of us have been to IKEA. I never touch anything on her side of the fridge.

Definitely something strange going on here.

It is.. Plus roommate believes in all that weird shit about UFOs, extra terrestrials, conspiracy theories. Every time she turns on the TV I hear 'Not suitable for..' or 'Viewer discretion is advised' Also, we live next to two graveyards...  LOL

So someone from Telus just called, from 866-369-9826, and burped loudly when I answered.  I recognized the number, they called twice last week getting me to switch to Telus Mobility. I was nice about it, but refused their offer because I am happy with my $5.00 / month deal with Rogers.

Apparently someone at Telus is not happy about that. Of course their offices are closed now, but I will be calling them tomorrow.

Edit - I called Telus today and ' Mr. Sour Gas that was pissed he didn't attain his quota of sales' will be disciplined. 😀

When I was in Ottawa recently, I sometimes see a random pick-up truck (or van) of a Quebec-based electrical contractor that serves both sides across the Ottawa River - one bearing an RBQ Number, the other an ESA number.

The similar case is true for an Ottawa-based HVAC contractor that bears both an TSSA number and an RBQ number.

I wonder if there's a special rule that allows these contractors to serve both sides across the Ottawa River?

FYI, RBQ = Régie du Bâtiment du Québec; ESA = Electrical Safety Authority; TSSA = Technical Standards and Safety Authority

Neighbor just called, informing me that the other day she found dismembered body parts of what looked like a ginger cat outside of her house, and that there have been reported sightings of coyotes in the neighborhood (particularly at night). She wanted to make sure my cat is ok. He is, but he's definitely not going outside anytime soon now. I hope the black cat down the street is ok too.

My Telus stalker called back again tonight, just didn't say anything.  I hung up, and blocked the number. Probably won't do any good, he can just call from another line. Gonna call concerns again tomorrow, this time I am asking for the escalation desk.

Escalation desk returned my call today. Agent said that she put my contact information into an internal 'Do Not Call List' for outbound Telus Marketing calls. So I should not be receiving any phone calls or emails from Telus regarding these. 🙂

It appears that nuissance (and even scam calls) will continue to plague us - for the rest of our lives.

Speaking of calls, I use a service called freephoneline.ca and although it involves a lot of technical configuration (not to mention on getting a device called an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) and a special file called a VOIP Unlock Key to configure the settings), i haven't paid a single penny. I also have another phoneline called the "MagicJack" (in which I have to pay yearly along with paying an annual fee to keep my Canadian phone number for the city I live).

Sometimes, it's often silly for someone to have two different fixed landlines (one is for personal, the other for other uses such as faxes).

Still with Freephoneline, there's a feature in which it allows me to change the number of rings (up to nine (9) rings until it reaches my voicemail). This is very useful for me - just to slow the scammer down. Only problem is - it could also delay someone at the other end on begging someone to answer the phone!

Putting the number of rings on a phone - is like placing speed bumps on the road.

My phone is set for five rings. Usually enough time for me spit out the toothpaste, rinse and get to the phone.

Sounds like a smart idea, but as I said earlier - that could worry the person who tries to call out at the other end - in terms of the response times.

Imagine if you're driving (or riding) a car, and there's a lot of traffic on the road. Then at the very back, you hear an emergency vehicle (i.e. police, fire, ambulance) trying to get through the busy road. The drivers hear that presence and tried to make a clear path for the emergency vehicle to go through but it is hampered by heavy traffic.

If you don't understand on what I'm trying to say, this video from the AMA (Alberta Motor Association) & AHS (Alberta Health Services) will give you some perspective:

Still with phones, My dad has a Pixel 3a smartphone and it offers a feature that allows him to screen calls - with the help of the Google Assistant. It is ultra-useful to filter out scammers, etc. but the caller at the other end - could get confused and unwarranted. This is like when you reach an intersection with all-way stops, you make a complete stop. This is how the feature looks like:

Yesterday I had a customer show me a black piece of plastic in a plastic bag and ask me where she can find such a thing. I asked her what it was, and all she could tell me was that it was from a mirror, so I sent her in that direction. If you're one of these people, we are not wizards that can identify random bits of garbage and tell you where they're sold. Please don't do this.

Yup, there it is.

On the political right, we have the don’t need no goddamn multimeter, lick your fingers and shove’em in and if you get a zap, you know it’s live.

On the political left, we have snowflakes bursting into tears because using the multimeter’s hard and the big V8 in the engine bay behind it is so mean.

Using tools and equipment to troubleshoot and solve an intermittent electrical problem on the truck is probably going to get me labelled as a rabid anti masker anti vaxxer since that’s the flavour of the month for tarring people with no matter how tenuous the connection is, assuming there even is one to begin with.

Pop quiz:

Q) What is a “dissenting opinion?”

A) Something that you’re not supposed to have.

Eight yard waste bags later, the back yard looks better but at the same time, it somehow looks like I only just got started on it.

Then I went to move the $100 Kijiji gourmet cooking workstation and the bottom frame broke.  It’s pretty seriously rusted so I doubt I’ll attempt a repair.  I got it in August 20, 2016 on the way home from the last Tragically Hip concert so I’ve had it for just over 5 years and it’s served me well ensuring some heavy use over that time.

I guess I’m looking for a replacement now.

I don't know what is worse. Someone who literally complains about their bus two minutes late OR the neighbour who keeps complaining about buses stopping in front of his house and people stepping on his lawn or blocking his driveway. The bus stop sign is in-front of his house and installed on a hydro pole.

Noting the neighbour who was complaining about the buses and the passengers who use the stop. He literally sat in his chair for several hours trying to catch it in the act. Like you don't have other things to do. Because you can't expect the operator to line up the rear door with the bus knowing that passengers are requested to disembark through the rear doors to ensure one-way direction. At the same time, if it really affects you that much he can chose to relocate to a different home. He has been around long enough to understand the impacts.

The person who complained about the bus laying up for two minutes literally got to work on-time. I simply said "maybe the operator doesn't want to run early further down the route and get a passenger complaint." Just because he may be on-time on one section doesn't mean that he can maintain that adherence down the route. With a detour currently in-effect leading to buses running early if leaving on-time and some senior operators deciding to layup at the first stop longer.

Pretty much sums up that people are too sensitive to something that is imperfect that has existed for a pretty long time.

Another day, another nonsensical customer expectation.

This evening, a customer arrived to do a curbside pickup of $500 worth of moulding. I took the order to him and some of it was a bit scuffed up, so he asked if he can get some replacements. I told him he was welcome to come into the store and grab replacements off the shelves. He asked if I could grab them for him, I told him I couldn't as I was the only one at customer service and had to get back right away, and he told me he can't go in because he had a kid. I tried to call for someone from the moulding department to come assist, but they were on break, and the customer noticed that some of the pieces he was looking at were the backside, the one that sticks against the wall, so he said he would come back later if he still needed replacement.

I mean, this really has to be some kind of new low. An adult would've had a stroller available so that in the circumstance that he needed to take his kid somewhere, he could, but apparently it makes much more sense to expect a worker to abandon his job and do everything for him instead. I don't understand how people like this end up finding women who will put up with them in the first place, but I guess there really is an audience out there for every product. Makes me feel better that if bozos like this can find love, I can too.

The way people abuse curbside pickup really irritates me too. If it's something small like an electrical part or paint then whatever, it's no skin off my nose, but the people who place massive orders for construction materials, and then stand there and watch you load their car for them because they "just had back surgery", can pound sand. And so can the people who don't actually put the order together, they just throw a sold label on the items in question, so that when the customer arrives to pick up their garbage you now have to be away from the desk for massive periods of time putting together the order that should have been done. Hopefully the pandemic ends soon and people go back to being expected to complete their shopping like adults.

Yes, there is a lid for every pot.
