General WTF Moments

Cogeno

Recommended Posts

A few moments today.

MOMENT 1:

Got cussed at my some rando by the bus stop after I told him that the dogs in the backyard were annoying. He proceeded to call me profane slurs like "Pu**y" "Fuckwad" and several other *worse* names I won't mention for the interests of any young folks here.

He then proceeded to threaten me, to which I started telling him I would call the cops.

MOMENT 2:

Usually the county refueling truck drives in a straight line. This morning, right when he passes, he swerves towards me, breaking course.

MOMENT 3:

Usually the bright-yellow hunk of shit that is another school bus passes by first. The City bus passed first. Timing of the jaundiced rustbucket that the school calls a bus, the first one passes during the argument with the piece-o-work mentioned above.

MOMENT 4:

Apparently the USA hates ANYTHING Russian, whether by parts, assembly or 100% All-Russian. Which means if a Ukrainian person with an undeclared stolen Russian attack vehicle moved to the US, they'd be arrested and put to death. Russia sucks, and the U.S. isn't much better.

WTF Rogers?!?!?!?

Got a text from Rogers informing me that my balance is about to expire in a couple of days and to 'top up' my balance.

I just topped it up on Monday.  I'd better not end up losing the money I just put on it, plus the balance I already have in my account.

Ouch. I hope your top-up voucher went through and showed the new expiry date.

I remember the days when I had to purchase a pre-paid voucher to use cell service. Especially when the $100 voucher allowed the balance to expire after 1 year versus the other tiers that expired after 30 days. Some people depending on their phones, but don't need a month to month plan due to low usage.

It went through, and I even phoned Rogers to verify it, but still I am nervous over it.  I had another incident years ago when Rogers had this super $10.00 PLAN they were forcing onto prepaid customers. I called to say I didn't want this, the agent made sure that everything would be fine and I would not fall victim to this plan, but on the specified day they switched me over. I was livid.  Manged to get my old plan back (which is really just an add-on and not a real plan). It's $5.00 / month for 250 texts. It's all I need.

So, hopefully no surprises tomorrow and good to go for another year.

I stumbled upon watching a story on CTV News earlier today - about one person who won the jackpot at a local casino in Toronto, Canada. Only problem is - he doesn't have valid photo ID (a requirement that is standard at all casinos - not just in Ontario) to claim his winnings. To make matters worse - he doesn't drive nor have a passport.  He ended up applying for the Ontario Photo Card (a purple identity card that looks like a driver's license - but it is not (the only evidence of that it has the statement "Not a Driver's License" at the back).

The familiar green photo health cards - isn't a valid form of ID at all.  As for the non-drivers photo ID that the man had applied for - it could take months until he receives that purple I.D. card.

My thoughts about the Ontario Photo Card - brought me memories in which I had came to a point to write a letter to the editor back in May 2012 (which eventually got published in my community newspaper). I also once had a blog (which was dubbed "The Fox News of Blogging" - since shuttered) in the past discussing about the Ontario Photo Card (yes, I often got crticized negatively because of my Fox News-esque opinions).

I find it interesting that the Ontario Photo ID card existed for around a decade providing an alternative to those who cannot drive. Plus I wonder how he also did his banking without any photo ID. When I do a cash withdrawal through a bank teller or do any kind of transactions, I would be required to show photo ID to verify I am indeed the person.

Now if the person won the jackpot in the US, a photo ID card is not accepted. Only a driver's license or passport would be accepted. I can confirm myself when trying to get into a casino, they wouldn't take photo ID cards. The security guard said "you have to come in with your passport. Provincial photo ID is not valid here." My hotel wasn't far off which was across the street, but I can understand where they are coming from especially with legal issues.

On top, the casino wants to also protect themselves because they don't want to pay the winnings to the wrong person. Especially when they also need cameras to verify who won the jackpot along with staff verification before paying out the proceeds. I know in Vegas, they are very strict on gambling laws such as if a player wins a jackpot, the attendant verifies along with verifying the footage from the cameras. Even if the player is unaware, sometimes they may work to track them down even if it takes several weeks or even months.

I had a WTF moment going through Airport Security today

i accidentally forgot to take my wallet out and take my boots off before going through the body scanner, this made the scanner reboot and the guard was pretty chill about it.  Thank god for a small airport in Canada.

I took a small trip to look for RTL buses that were improperly tracking today. On the way to Terminus Longueuil on route 1, I saw a guy who decided to cross the busy Sir Wilfrid Laurier boulevard about 20 metres from the marked crosswalk. Thus, he was walking down the yellow median line with many cars zooming past him in both directions.

This got me annoyed.

So the school I go to is boasting how we got extra funding and etc in our programs. So why the hell am I paying or printing to print labs and assignments? Seriously, instead of renos or upgrades to the infrastructure of the school or bonuses to my instructors, half who don't teach me what I need to know in order to graduate, how about giving it back to the students? this is freaking annoying at the beginning of the semester on the first day where I I get informed that in order to do labs or to pass the class, I either have to use my own printer or go to stores and pay them premiums for a package for notes? Annoying when 20 pages of notes costs me $10 or when I'm printing 75 pages of notes where once the semester is over, they'll just be tossed into the recycling. I'm lucky that I got a printer at home, but when since most of my other classmates don't, they'll have to go to a computer and print station and pay 25 cents a sheet. In all honesty, they should've just charged me $25 extra on my tuition for notes as it doesn't make a difference in the four grand I pay for a semester. I'll pay ahead of time as long I'm getting what I paid for but it's frustrating where you show up for the first week of classes, everything is paid for from tuition, expensive textbooks and etc., yet, you aren't done paying for your classes. I get where some people refer to college as country clubs nowadays.

Just saw this tweet today. Apparently people don't know about transit apps that can track a departure, but somehow call 911 instead?

In their defense, they may not have been using a smart phone (no apps) and may have accidentally dialed 9-1-1 instead of 3-1-1. However, I could very well be wrong. Not everyone uses apps, especially the ones where you have to sign in to use them every time. I have a smart phone, but still in the box as I am dreading having to use it because of that.  Still using my 11 y/o Nokia !!!

It's been over a year that Pooja Handa and Gurdeep Ahluwalia took on the role of being the morning hosts on 98.1 CHFI - sometimes that they can be entertaining!

There's one particular call-in game show on that radio station called "Can't Beat Gurdeep" in which the caller has to guess a series of 5 questions and Gurdeep has to answer those 5 questions.

If the caller has more answers right, they win a prize. If Gurdeep has more answers, the caller won't win anything. If, both Gurdeep and the caller ends with a tie - then no win.

Reminds me of the old radio game show called "Stump the Chump" - back in the radio station's heydays.

I can't understand why Gurdeep keeps on winning while the caller keeps losing....

I saw a backhoe go through a McDonald's drive through in St. Lambert, QC today. The height restrictions were immaterial to the driver, who simply used the backhoe to push the height bar and sign off to the side to enter the lane.

All this to get a $11+ meal with minimal toppings and a tiny patty, if he even managed to get the attention of an employee on the speaker (which we did not the last time I was at that particular location). Drive throughs are through with me anyway, as they keep getting slower - the highest standard of service is at the counter. And not a McCounter at that.

One fewer reason to drive a car. And Terminus Longueuil has a good food court anyway; A&W just needs to send more coupons before I can consider eating there.

This may be considered a WTF moment, but take this as fantasy:

Who is likely at fault in this scenario:

I was waiting for a Uber (or Lyft) ride from the mall back to the train station and when I was about to get onboard the vehicle, someone that I knew (i.e. teacher from my elementary or high school) from nowhere tried to call me but I was already in the vehicle.

That teacher tried to stop me from "making my getaway" and then stopped the Ridesharing driver for a simple ask: that teacher wanted to see me but the driver doesn't have time (as he/she had to make some runs). Then in a twist, that driver (almost) ran over that teacher that I knew.

In that situation, will that teacher who almost got hit either:

Put me at fault just for ignoring her orders while on a ridesharing vehicle (and take me and driver to court), or will the liability be shifted towards the driver (and I count as a witness)?

While waiting at the Hollywood/Vine red line station, some homeless lady was asking people for a lighter for her cigarette(which is banned of course), she eventually went to the end of the station. I eventually hear an electric buzz and I speculate that the homeless lady threw her cigarette at THE THIRD RAIL.

I really need to avoid taking the red line at night...

At the beginning of November, a drunk driver rammed into the side of a bank in my town. A large tarp was put over the hole that remained.

Now, 4 months later, the tarp is still up. I pass by every single day, multiple times a day, at all hours, and have never seen anyone doing anything remotely resembling work on the site.

Is this one of those private sector efficiencies we keep hearing about?

Maybe the insurance companies are holding things up? Sometimes legalities can take a while to iron out.

Kept getting a phone call from a unknown number twice a day for the last week at the exact times of 4:30PM and 6PM. Finally I picked up after not being able to find out who owns the number and etc.

Older guy starts talking that he's from the City of Calgary and that he's wanting feedback from someone over the age of 18. He asks if I got time to talk. I said, fine, how long will this take? He says 20-30 minutes. I say screw that, I'm with my family and to call me back another time tomorrow after 12 but he says the hours of operation don't start till 2PM. Those are weird fucking hours. I immediately added the number to my never-ending list of blocked numbers. I honestly don't know who this guy was, if he was legitimate or this is was some sort of new scam. I don't have time to talk to a stranger over the phone about whatever especially the fact that I trust no one. Why would I talk to someone who I don't know? How he got my number is a question of itself. I'm not an idiot and am all too aware about phone scams whether by call or text. I thought the call was about a summer job I applied for in my field. But they would've left me a voicemail if that was the case. Makes me ponder if this call was legit just wanting feedback about the City but I got zero trust on who's on the other end. Them calling me at the exact times for the past week was already a red flag.

In his defense, he could be working for a survey company and representing The City.  I answer a number of surveys (mostly online) and know for a fact they are having a difficult time getting opinions from certain age groups, 18-24, and 25-34 in particular.  Also, many survey companies have their call centers in other countries, which could account for the time discrepancy.

However, your gut instinct saw red flags, always trust your gut.

^And that's exactly why I almost never pick up the phone if it's an unknown number (and if the 1st 6 digits match mine, it's an instant blocking from me). I always figure that if someone wants to talk for a legitimate reason they'd leave a voicemail (although I've also removed my voicemail greeting "you've reached [Name]..." to discourage any illegitimate callers from leaving a voicemail or calling back, since they'd have less reason to believe the number is in use). Also why I generally hate having to make/answer phone calls at all (except people I know), and always prefer to communicate through email or texting.

I will answer unknown numbers from my landline, although I get very few because I have Telus Call Control.

From my cell phone, I only answer if it comes up as someone in my contacts, and even then it will be very brief (I try to keep calls under one minute). Often I will text the person back and tell them to text me or I will let them know I will call them back from my land line.  I do not answer unknown numbers from my cell phone.

At work, we have paper check out bags, and rolls of plastic sheets (sheets being the operative word) for covering plants, protecting your car from dirt from soil, etc.

This morning, a charming gentleman gave a new cashier a hard time because he asked if we have plastic bags when he meant the sheets. The cashier said no, but then another offered that we had the plastic sheets, and it transpired that that was what he was looking for. He was losing his mind, loudly ranting and raving to 4 different employees about how you shouldn't give a confident answer if you don't know, before I was summoned as a supervisor of the area. I told the customer that the cashier is new, but the customer interrupted me and told me to stop defending him and to talk to him about having respect for customers. On balance I should have told him something like "I have no reason to talk to him, I think he is a very good worker" but words failed me. Probably for the best though, lest I got written up for daring to contradict the Blessed Word of the All Holy Customer™️ in their infinite wisdom.

There needs to be a healthy fear of people working in the service industry. These vile people wouldn't dare spew their bile at us if they thought there was a real chance of a manager telling them to get out, without their stuff, or they'd call the police on them. And they have the nerve to say that we have an attitude problem. They should meet themselves some time. Perhaps if managers focused more on saying no to abusive customers, and focused less on disciplining people for drinking soda on the sales floor, working in retail wouldn't be like a punishment. But hey, what do I know?

They started the land line in my house now with the same number. Only a matter of time for them to call my parents. My father isn't kind to these people so he'll probably tell them to f-off once they start calling his cell. I learned a trick to block numbers on a land line by picking up, pressing pound then hanging up. This should solve the problem. If not, I'll pick up and tell them to stop bothering me and my family. So annoyed by that one number. They don't stop.
