Mike
Spent the day in Niagara-on-the-Lake and saw three buses operating a regular shuttle service there (I believe it is free). The service operates between the bus parking lot and the Courthouse Theater. It is run by 5-0 Transportation using 3 Ford Cutaway Vans. The shuttle operates from the beginning of April to the end of December each year.

Orion VIII
Excellent news. This should mean not only an increase in mobility for NOTL residents, but should also create an increase in Niagara Region Transit ridership.
Chris W
As I said, I'll go and visit them and report back with a fleet list and some ridership numbers. They expect 6-10 riders an hour, which is doable, especially since it does a trip to Niagara College Glendale Campus.

Chris W
As promised, I made the trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake for the first day of revenue service. NOTL has two Ford/Girardin cutaways, with another two arriving on Friday. These buses are numbered TS-01, TS-02, TS-03 and TS-04. 01 and 02 were in service. TS-01 was operating on the Heritage Shuttle. The first photo is at the Courthouse, where the two routes meet. The second is in the Fort George parking lot. TS-02 was chosen for the long-distance connector route known as Old Town-Glendale. I again got photos at the Courthouse, along with Penner Road and Elden Street in Virgil and Niagara College Glendale Campus. There was one last stop at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre. The drivers here were kind enough to let me do these photostops. These buses are built to STM specs, down to the Axion LED signs. I'd like to thank David and Matthew Mole, whose company, Niagara Classic Transportation, owns and maintains the buses, for providing the information to me and touring me around the headquarters. Gil
It's a good start, but if you're a tourist without a car it's a bit complicated making your way from Toronto to NOTL. Transit will only work on weekdays since Niagara College doesn't get service on weekends. Oherwise you're forced to take a cab to Glendale. Lakeshore West train to Burlington GO bus to Fairview Mall St. Catharines SCTC 9 or 12 to Downtown Terminal Niagara College shuttle to Glendale campus NOTL Transit Old Town-Glendale into NOTL. Niagara Transit can get you there as well from the Stanley Ave. stop on the Niagara-bound GO bus. Backtrack on the 1 to the Zehrs Plaza Niagara College shuttle to Glendale campus NOTL Transit Old Town-Glendale into NOTL. Either SCTC, NRT, NT or GO Transit (could they throw in a stop at the Glendale campus?) need to provide a better connection or NOTL should extend the route to somewhere a little more convenient for transfers. It's probably a bit much to ask for right now, but it's something they should certainly be considering in the future if the service proves to be a success. 97SCT
two of the NOTL Ford E450 Girardin cutaways were at the Pen Centre, TS-03 displaying Old Town and TS-06 which isn't w/c accessible so i really think there's 6 units for NOTL Transit........? "Starting on June 23, we will offer a GO Bus shuttle between St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake. The bus will meet the trains departing from Toronto in St. Catharines and will operate express to downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake; the return shuttle trips will meet Toronto-bound trains in St. Catharines. It still doesn't address the complicated weekday connections between GO, STC and NOTL Transit. Again, the simplest solution would be to add a stop on the Niagara Falls route at the Glendale Campus. I don't know how GO would receive that at the end of the school year when they usually scale back services to universities and colleges. Otherwise, NOTL could extend to the Pen Centre to make transfers a little easier.
Gil
From the St. Catharines Standard: NOTL buses approach 1,000 riders Aside from the ridership increase there was mention of a regional terminal at Glendale to help facilitate connections between Welland, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls agencies with NOTL and Niagara Region hoping to get in as well. There is additional development anticipated in the area, which will hopefully lead to more regular service. I'm hoping that there will eventually be a route to connect NOTL to Niagara Falls. At the very least to the bus terminal/train station to provide connections with Niagara Falls Transit, GO Transit and VIA Rail. I'd like to make the trip to NOTL, but it's still a complicated trip to make with all the connections/transfers required from Toronto. It probably seems even more daunting for tourists or people unfamiliar with the area.
