They’re definitely expecting to run less service on Finch compared to Eglinton. There’s about 1/3 less conductor cross section strung up above Finch compared to Eglinton with the associated reduction in ampacity and what that implies for the number of cars or trains that can be run close together so they’re clearly not planning around running Eglinton levels of service in the near future. Eglinton are minimum 200' long with the option of coupling another "car" to make it 300', where Finch is using ~150' long vehicles, so it may not just be service frequency they are building the overhead for. Does the Flexity draw more power (per foot of length) than the Citadis? Is the overhead being powered at the same voltage on both lines, or are they putting a higher voltage on line 6? Spacing between substations, are they closer together on line 6? ... oh, last one ... Service frequency ... you can provide 5 minute service using less vehicles if you make the vehicles operate at a higher speed but space them further apart...maybe they are expecting to be able to provide the same service frequency on Finch West while using less vehicles spaced further apart, less total power draw...? The only one I know the answer to is it's going to be 750 V DC unless things have changed since I last checked since that's what Metrolinx was standardizing on for their LRTs. In Ontario, that means there's two outliers from that standard, the TTC legacy streetcar system at 600ish volts and the Ottawa LRT at 1,500 V and that uses the same vehicles that Finch West is going to so there was a window of opportunity that existed before things got too far along where Metrolinx could've specified the same equipment package, bumped the line voltage and strung lighter overhead but as far as I know, they never changed the specifications and did that. That's probably a good thing since the new LRT lines hopefully won't exist in isolation and you'd want standards that permit interoperability as the network hopefully grows. Hopefully. I can hope, right? Service frequency, detailed power consumption figures? That I don't have.
nfitz
Ottawa is designed for up to 4 (somewhat shorter) cars though. So could have as many as pantographs. It's already running every 5 minutes - which is more frequent than we'll see Finch for a long time.

That means that they can comfortably fit their trains, which are configured as a pair of 140-ish foot long cars - the same, in fact, as the ones being used on Finch West. (Save for the line voltage, requiring different transformers, and signal system.) Dan

Orion V
Can a wiki admin create a page of the 6500s to keep track of these? I don't want to put each unit delivered into the notes section of the main page of TTC; it'll be too crowded. I think this is the 6th unit delivered right? Orion V
Alright I did only 4 as I could only find the delivery dates for these 4 units from the info gathered here, another board and the Metrolinx/Finch West LRT twitter sites. The other 3 units have delivery dates but I don't know what numbers they are. I don't want to assume 6500 is the 1st unit delivered either as sometimes they might not deliver the first unit first. Sep 29 2022 were units 4 and 5. Jul 29 2021 was unit 1. If anyone spots any units out testing that's not 6502, 6509, 6510 and 6512 BEFORE the 8th unit arrives, please post. lol

drum118
It going to be tough to see service on Finch by the end of 2023 based on my trip along it yesterday. A lot of infrastructure still has to be done before the guideway can be built and still saying early 2024 opening. Still in line what I saw for the first time this year for an opening date. Still taking 10-15 minutes to go a few blocks like the last time. My trip was unplan and try shooting videos with the DSRL since my video camera die and waiting for a new one that most likely not show up until 2023. After 4 tries to shot the videos, gave up as I was having a hard time keeping the camera on the dashboard caused by the rough road and the weaving. Very rare for me to be in this area in the first place to do any shooting. The best two videos I could save with normal speed and fast speed. First One between Keele and Jane <https://youtu.be/z58EWxpAuvw> <https://youtu.be/GLuyh6vtIPc> 2nd one west of the 400 <https://youtu.be/VhH0xh48d5g> <https://youtu.be/xgbuRe-JXQk>

Orion V
Can a moderator change the title of the wiki 6500-6516 page to say 6500-6517 since it's reported they will get 18 units? I've changed the page and all references already but cannot change the title. Somehow, from the first time when Metrolinx announced they will get 17 units for this line to now, 1 unit has been added to this fleet. https://twitter.com/FinchWestLRT?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

Orion V
Thanks to Reece, we now know the missing "delivered" 3 units are 6501, 6506 and 6508 as of March 17, 2023. I've updated the wiki to reflect this but the exact delivery dates are still unknown so I marked it accordingly. If anyone knows, please update the wiki or make a comment here so I can change it. Turtle
Line 6 Finch West has a signal system that does exactly what I said it would, despite someone here insisting I was wrong. According to RMTransit at 5:40 in this youtube video: He did a tour of the maintenance facilities and got a chance to play with the simulator. Great video. So yes, I am right, signal system which protects the vehicles from each other, and limits speed, as well as doing other usual signal system stuff. "SelTrac moving block system from Thales". Okay, I'm done gloating now. Great video, this guy is pretty interesting. 1
