Calgary Transit CTrain Service Disruptions

There is a CTrain closure planned for this coming weekend for regular maintenance/construction on the Blue Line.

https://www.calgarytransit.com/content/transit/en/home/service-updates.html

Part of the work is described as "Fall arrest at Barlow and Zoo stations". Is this to prevent falls within the stations headhouses, to keep people from falling off the platforms onto the tracks, or something else?

Fall arrest... thats a term I don't specifically hear very often on here lol

How high are the guardrails inside the station? 80s standards, or modern enough that someone over 5-6 feet won't accidentally fall over the guardrails? The older rails at Brentwood for example, anyone my height (6 ft) could've easily fallen over, if pushed, wind or otherwise. Maybe thats what they mean? Unless they're testing out some sort of glass door-esque safety system for the platforms, to prevent people from jumping onto the tracks (or being pushed in front of trains?)

So inside Barlow and Zoo stations, IIRC, it’s a switchback ramp all the way down to the underpass/tunnel level. At the end of the first landing, someone could easily hop over the railing and jump down, causing serious harm to themselves or to someone who might be hanging out underneath …

If the work is inside, my guess is this is what they might be trying to correct.

I'm guessing it would actually be work on the fall arrest system on the station roof - not really anything to do with the public facing part of the station.

Ah! Had not thought of that. Cheers.

Significant CTrain closure along 7 Ave. S. and beyond this coming long weekend, as is traditional.

Special direct shuttle to the convention centre this year to service the COVID-19 vaccination clinic.

Quote

If you’re taking Transit to the Telus Convention Centre immunization clinic, there will be direct bus service running to and from the 39 Avenue Station, Sunnyside Station and the convention centre, running every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you’re taking Transit to the Telus Convention Centre immunization clinic, there will be direct bus service running to and from the Downtown/West Kerby Station, Bridgeland/Memorial Station and the convention centre, running every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why is this disruption necessary?
We are completing a number of repair and maintenance projects including:

Inspection and maintenance of Plus 15 and CT overhead structures
Crossing rehab and track and way maintenance and 4th Ave
Maintenance of  lighting, fire standpipes and joint sealing in the tunnel under the library
Maintenance of lighting and fire standpipes in the Cemetery Hill tunnel
Kensington and Henry Kruger Bridges – maintenance of fire standpipes
Stampede area: 17th south crossing preparation (Enmax)
Other projects may also be completed depending on staffing, materials availability etc.

Correct.  7941 and 8035 were taken off of other routes to do this shuttle for the afternoon peak hours.  6065 and a few XD40s did the shuttle as well.

A man is in critical condition after being struck by a CTrain early Saturday morning, Calgary police say.

A 28-year-old man was in the tunnel north of the Victoria Park/Stampede CTrain station when he was struck by a southbound train around 3 a.m., police said.

The man was rushed to hospital where he remains in critical condition. His injuries are considered life-altering, police said.

The operator of the train was not injured, they added.

Alcohol impairment on the part of the pedestrian is considered a factor in the incident, police said.

The Calgary Police Service is reminding the public to be cautious around CTrain platforms and tracks in the wake of the incident.
