M.Wright
I'm afraid I won't be able to attend... I've got a workshop that morning. Sorry to hear that but okay. Anyway I was recently made aware that Toronto people might have a problem attending this due to it's early start, I found a flight on Westjet that departs YYZ at 8:00 and arrives at YOW at 8:59 which gives you exactly 1 hour to get to St. Laurent which should be more than enough time. Though you might have to wake up really early due to the fact it departs YYZ at 8:00 and with airline security nowadays, yeah. The flight would cost $79.00 as it is a seat sale flight. To get back I recommend the 19:30 flight arriving at 20:30 in YYZ to get some time to transit fan around Ottawa even though it will be quite boring on a Saturday but that's your choice. This recommended flight is $59.00 If you take this recommendation the total cost of the two way trip shall be $258.65 CAD with taxes and fees included. M.Wright
Very bad news, OC just called me and unless I can rake together $700 before September 13th, this is not going to happen as I have to pay them in advanced due to policy's that were created 4 years ago. Any suggestions? I guess I'll be doing overtime at work to get some money but I cannot get $700 before September 13th. I would just like to add that I cannot see anywhere on their site that advanced payment was needed. So this is as much of a shock to me as it is to you guys. M.Wright
So the charter is not happening now? I am going to try my best to make this happen, we got this far, it's too late to turn back now. I am now pursuing the volunteer driver option to lower the initial costs to levels we can support easily and possibly lower the charter cost for you guys. He will get back to me with that tomorrow. But I will not rest until I sort this out. Just curious, if I do end up needing advanced payment, you guys won't mind it? This will be my last option however. You might have to raise up the cost if no choice given and I don't mind doing that.

M.Wright
$700, as of for 3 hours total run or in advance cost? $700 for 4 hours of charter, paid all in advance of this charter to OC Transpo. I have quite a few people who aren't on the board who are interested to make 28 people. However I am considering raising it back to $30 case some of them decide not to go. I am right now pursuing taking out a loan though I might be able to borrow some money and repay them in full after this is over due to the shock of this. Also if I was to do advance payments then mail would probably be the best solution though I do not want to give out my address so I don't know what to do which is why I'm keeping that the last option. Good thing I know about this now is that if I ever do a charter again, I will be ready as this was quite a surprise.

If not, then here's the calc. goes: $30 per person, you need 23 people minimum. $35 per person, you need 20 people minimum. $40 per person, you need 18 people minimum. Now I know you don't want to increase the cost when less people comes, which of course it will turn away some people. However, going to see how many people by going in a word in a mouth to increase the attendance.
SMS
Why not lower it from 4 hrs to 3 hrs, this way you keep costs reasonable and people will still come and support you. But you should now not have any long breaks by any means.

stm_5307N
The best thing would be to get a loan and as the charter begins, you collect back the money from the people on your charter and pay back your loan after.

That was one of my option but the volunteer operator seems more reasonable. They called me today and if I get a volunteer operator (either I choose one or they just put it out to see if anyone wants to do it), the total cost will be $400, now that I can do. I'll see if this one driver I know is interested, though he does hate the 87XX buses because their slow so he might not want but I'll try to convince him by saying "Hey, you won't have to follow a schedule" and that is why most drivers hate the 87XXs, because they can't stay on schedule. SMS
Some guys in MTL would pay good money to ride a GM Classic again. So please don't give up just yet, try to find that volunteer operator and then everything's on schedule. Keep up the good work!

I've introduced mike to a driver that I know that drives from Pinecrest, so I hope he's the one driving, since he's a really nice driver. Plus hes also aware of this charter. Point55. Well, if you cannot convince this guy by September 3rd or so, get OC to choose a volunteer driver. But offer this driver something at the beginning or at the end of the charter as a big thank you. That way he will know his generousity has been appreciated.
mtltransitguy
Yes, we are so committed to this charter, that some of us *cough*me*cough*, would cancel a whole intensive course just to be able to go. I don't want to see the price go up or anything, but we would also pay... Another option is to move the date back if you need more time, but that would mess-up the coordination with YUL's CIT Tripper! You should have enough time to work things out though...don't turn back now!

I will talk things out with an unknown contact and try to get this individual to volunteer for driving 8769 for us on the date as of Sept 13. I can't guarantee it, but I'll try my best. This driver does like the accompany and talking with Transit Enthusiasts, so, hopefully this will be a success. Only thing to remember, this driver doesn't like to get his picture taken, or recorded in. Just as long your focus is on the bus, then all is good. Point55.
