Canadian National
Yes thank you for reminding me, I would of preferred if they spent the money on fixing that as that is the part we're all going to photograph the most.Personally I dislike the floor modification OC Transpo might of done. I am going to check it out for my self tomorrow after I book the charter because this is just too unreal for me to grasp. But if they did do this, I'd rather they spend that money on exterior work, not interior work. I was told that they wouldn't remove the rust yet I did not request this. I'm kind of angry right now as I did not request this. Maybe it was part of the rebuilt? The floors seem to be like the ones we have on our V's but with color detail and that shiny silver thing. And as for the crack in the rear, I meant by the panel in the interior back of the bus. It's a seriously noticeable crack! Point55.
M.Wright
Okay I called the guy and booked the charter, it is happening on September 13th for sure. I booked the bus for 10 AM so you guys can start booking your ways to get to Ottawa. I'd suggest aiming to be in Ottawa by 8:30 AM.

M.Wright
So where do I sign up? And what is the starting point? (Sorry, I've never been to Ottawa before and if you can tell me anywhere there is good parking near the pick-up point, it would be greatly appreciated!) The starting point that I am aiming for is St. Laurent Station Upper level. The exact stop is yet to be determined. As far as parking goes, if you park at St. Laurent mall and just buy something there, you can be considered a customer at that point so therefore a parking lot. That's probably the best parking in the area. You can access it from the 417 by getting of at St. Laurent Blvd and heading north then make a right turn onto Lemieux St (If your coming from Montreal you'll be on Lemieux St when you get off it) then assuming your coming from Toronto, Right on Labelle St (left from Montreal), then right into the Garage and then you may find yourself a parking spot. Also if you don't want to get a ticket even though I doubt they will enforce the customer thing, buy something in the mall before you come. If you don't mind the risk, just park and head over. *Note: I am not responsible if by the slight chance anyone does get a ticket, parking there is your own risk* But that is the best place and I think the only place to park nearby. If you don't want to risk it then just park at a Park and Ride and head over by bus. Now for registering, all you have to do to make it easy for me to mail out the waivers is send your board name and any questions to ottawatransitcharters(at)hotmail.com You emails will not be used for anything other then this charter as they will be deleted from this account once the charter is over. I almost forgot the cost of this charter will be $25 cnd. Just think about it this way, at least it's not $30.
SMS
A tip for parking at St. Laurent Centre: DON'T PARK WHERE IT SAYS "NO OC TRANSPO PARK & RIDE." Adding two to five more minutes walking time from a farther parking space from the bus terminal is worth not worrying about getting towed. I never have to buy anything either, altho there is a TimHos there that people can use if they like. Mike, I hope you gave OC Transpo a short list of the buses you want in case 8769 proves unavailable. Insist on OC Transpo cleaning the interior of the bus well, and that the bus must pass through the bus wash. Insist on a friendly cooperative driver who knows whatever sectors we will be travelling in (only you and Trav might know this information right now). Insist that the roll sign works (STM almost gave 59-019 to me with a broken sign). Ask if deadhead charges will be incurred by us - hopefully not, but it won't matter much if the bus is coming from St. Laurent. Mike, it's probably also recommended that you let OC Transpo security know that busfans are chartering a vehicle this day and that people will be taking many photos of this bus and others that cross its path on the public road and in all likelihood at terminals. Specify what their response is. Try to get something written down for us to carry around. If we can;t take pictures on OC Transpo property, let us know so that we won't get into trouble. mtltransitguy
Why the heck would OC go and replace the floor just for the few hours we are chartering the bus for? Can you give me an example of the type of floor they put in? How would this even benifit them? Is the charter going to be in the media or something? Something just seems odd in all of this...especially if you didn't even reserve the bus or anything, I don't get why they would go through a load of trouble like that, and why they would care so much! Remember, as long as your waiver stipulates that you are allowed to remove anyone from the charter, you don't even need the bylaws, because when someone signs the waiver, they agree to it, thus agreeing to possibly gettig kicked off. Of course it dosen't hurt to have double power!!! Yes, don't forget about back-up buses, and do make sure that everything else that SMS mentioned is taken care of to, this avoids many unwanted problem on the day of the event... That is a decent price for the charter, and worth every penny, looking forward to it.
MCIBUS
If OC has replaced the floor with a fibreglas floor, I can't se it just being just for this tour. If 8769 is the oldestt bus in the fleet and the last of the otrginal GM Classics I think its more to this. Maybe just maybew this bus might be part of ther historical fleet? Or since OC got new fare boxes there for no need to retire older buses, hence they maybe keeping older buses considering the sudden turn around in ridership increases. Remeber come Sept, Colleges,Universities, High Scoo;ls are back, Most workers are back from summer holidays, so more then likely come Sept and beyond riodership wil go up especially if gas prices stary to go up again. Canadian National
Since the last time I rode 8769, I rode it again today. Kinda sad to see the new floor now has a new thing added onto it near the front. Gum stepped over a million times turning black. Like those sticky block spots you see at Transitway Stations. The bus really has a hard time going fast, so.. just saying what I think of it, and up too you Mike, to decide to keep this bus for the charter, unless OC cleans up the gum spots on the new floor. Point55.

Anyway any suggestions for a new bus? Now accepting offers. Though I think I'll request that OC try their best to remove that gum because that's just disgusting. Though I don't like the fact that it has trouble going fast as I know some of those 87XXs can go fast. Not many though but I remember riding one that had no trouble getting up to speed on the 174. I forget which unit that was... Also have any 87XXs been retired since I started planning this? I haven't seen many taken off the road yet. Cogeno
Yeah, 8798 performed pretty well. 8786 didn't when I rode it. I think those are the only OC GMs I've ridden.

I rode a whole bunch, I sure there is one 877x that shakes every couple of second while idling. 8796 is perfect for highway speeds, and I believe Gregory recently rode it yesterday (?). I'll ride some 87xx tomorrow during PM rush. I'll be at Laurier. I love that station. People don't care if you photograph buses, even if you have to run into the bushes/plants/flowers to get a good shot. Point55.
