87XX Charter Initiative

Mike, thanks again for organizing a great charter. I was able to get a lot of good shots of 8769 along with a few in service buses (a couple of D40's) along the way. I also enjoyed riding the bus along the 417 and the south busway.

I agree with SMS and hope you consider doing more in the future. I think with a lot of advance notification, you could probably get an even bigger crowd from the greater Toronto area.

Kevin

I learnt my lesson from this, I will be planning a route for next one but I will not announce a date until I have figured everything out that I made mistakes this time around. I hope to incorporate the canceled parts from this route into the next charter route. Also I got a few requests from where to go on this charter so I will try to incorporate those too.

That trolley pole I pointed out, just in case anyone wants to go back and photograph it, it is just south of Bank St and the 417.

The only thing I have yet to decide for the next one mainly is which is more endangered, a 1990 D40 or a 1989 Classic. They both are on the endangered species list, so I have to decide which one, but I'm sure some of both will live past 2008.

try getting 6101..

I am sure that bus is still road worthy.

hopefully the next charter i will be able to attend.

I'm pretty sure it's not. It hasn't been on the road in ages. It just sits there in Swansea... Poor thing really.

I think it had something wrong with it's starter last time I heard. It's most likely got a host of problems.

The same thing goes with 8222, the GM Artic we have sitting outside too. Just 8222 has a dead tranny and engine.

Bottom line, OC doesn't give a rat's ass about its buses.

I'd like to also thank Mike for hosting this charter, for making sure this happened while experiencing some difficulty and for being an excellent tour guide after the charter for the Montreal and Ottawa crew. Also thanks to DoubleT for being an excellent charter voice guide, many said his voice was perfect and his comments were amusing and interesting to hear.

I loved the GM blasting 95 km/h on the 417 and when it was on the Transitway. The driver was really nice and knowledgable, I think he sounds American though, is he?

Also loved riding the non-GM buses after the charter. Had a real blast today! :)

By the way, the bus has about 1 383 222 km or 2 383 222 km. :P

(Still unsure who the Montréalers were that came)

Point55.

I was the one in the red hoodie who sat near the middle always.

Did you guys ride that NFI D40 on Route 7 after the charter?

I believe Hurdmanhugz mentioned:

"It's not a toy kids" after they played with the bell on that bus ( I would've played with it too; *ding ding ding ding ding* <_<). Too bad I couldn't stay longer. It was quite a rare opportunity to go transit fanning with such mature, respectful adults that aren't based from Ottawa.

To M.Wright and Double T, first time to do this OC charter and I would like to say congradulations for doing an tremendous job! This is a nice start for the upcoming retire buses in the future. I really enjoyed it!

Nice to see those D40 and 98 Orion V in service at that day, I thought they have alot of LF to be covered, guess not.

I know the 89 Classic will be most likely next target as they have higher milage than the D40, but it could be any of the units.

Keep up the good work guys, would love to see more of the upcoming charter in the future!

We used to have enough LFs to cover weekend service but they all keep on breaking down. After all, low floors make up 70% of our fleet. So as we have a fleet of about 1000 buses, 700 are low floor, 300 are high floor. (Estimates)

If I had time I would get some exact numbers of how many of each we got but I don't have that kind of time anymore.

From my statistics booklet, in 2007, OC Transpo had 991 buses. So we are over the 1000 number.

By the way, I spotted 8769 today doing a driver's training at Blair Station. I have a feeling this bus is still based out of St.Laurent North, since their were also D40HFs laying up doing driver trainings too.

Excuse my tardiness teacher.

I had an amazing time on the charter, it was great to finally get to ride a GM with everyone and to travel around to new parts of Ottawa I haven't seen yet.

I love that Pylon sign, too bad other agencies didn't use it, and who knows maybe some would still have rollsigns today since one of the downsides to rollsigns was the time it took to set the route.

The after charter was great too, hopefully we can do something like that again soon.

I thought it was the driver who said "its not a toy........" over the PA!

Thanks so much for planning this great event and were all looking forward to the next one, hopefully soon!

I'm not too sure who everyone on the charter was, so when the group pic gets posted, let me know if you want please!

The after charter event was quite fun too. As I didn't plan on one so it was quite neat way to spend the rest of my Saturday. Better then going home and doing nothing all day long.

And your all very welcome.

Group picture anyone?

It's free to take for anyone else to re-publish.

I probably should of been at the front but whatever, I like my semi-hidden self. That's just the type of guy I am.

At least 5101 is still sitting inside the St. Laurent North garage. Now there's a bus that would suffer in the elements! :)

Yeah it would have been interesting to see that Garage.

Too bad the VI's are moving in quickly.

That garage used to be all HFs with D40s, Classics, More Classics, and even more Classics. And if you were lucky, you'd see them mostly parked outside in plain view from the 417.

Hopefully Mike now knows to focus more on the Photo Stops then the historic bus routes. That way, we save MORE time, and go to more places around Ottawa.

Point55. :P
