87XX Charter Initiative

Thanks Mike for all of the work that you have done to pull this off. But can we please confirm the start time?

Kevin

The charter is leaving at 10 AM sharp (well I hope right on time). So please arrive before 10.

And your welcome.

I'm sorry everyone but I'm going to now require $35 per person. My family who is paying the advance payment is threatening to pull the plug if I don't.

Update (4:16 PM): Stop we've been assigned is stop 3B, it has no routes servicing it and it's perfect for this. Also he brought it to my attention that a charter for senior citizens will be happening at 3F so do not get mixed up with that charter. They will be leaving at 10:30.

Also due to OC Policies, the designation signs I planned on using will not be allowed. So it will have to display "Charter" at every photo stop.

He told me he'll tell me tomorrow. So expect it tomorrow.

Also I prepared the waiver with the help of SMS so here it is

I tried to download the waiver in Firefox but it wasn't working and crashed the browser. This was in Firefox 3, anybody else have that problem? It works fine in Internet Explorer 7.

Works for me, I got Firefox 3.0.1 (I just checked the waiver, it worked properly)

I don't want to play devil's advocate here (especially not against OC Transpo) but assuming we're at a stop, change our destination sign to something, take the picture and then change it back to Charter???

Who's gonna know?

The driver may not allow it since he has to follow OC's policies... :-/

Mike, I can bring $35. Depite it being pricey, I guess this is the way life goes...

Congrats on getting the charter going!

Unfortunately I will NOT be able to attend due in part to the original uncertainty of whether the charter was to take place or not. I don't own a car, and for me getting to Ottawa would be a pain in the ass on such short notice. I've since made other plans.

But I hope you guys have fun!

Everybody should aim to meet the group for 9:30 - 9:45 a.m. and it would be wise to save the picture taking for the start of the charter, lest some drivers at St. Laurent Station become infuriated.

Your family was good enough to front you with the cash for the event, so I don't mind paying the surcharge since we could not find that elusive volunteer driver... next time maybe!

And I wasn't allowed to charter a Van Hool in 2006, yet I did, so...

I'm sure that this is negotiable with the driver with the consequence that we can't put pictures online lest the driver get in trouble for it.

Weekend Service. You know what that means. Anyone living out In Kanata, Barrhaven, Orleans, Gloucester or Ottawa South will have to transfer to at least 2 buses to get to St.Laurent. I just hope my bus arrives on-time.

Point55. (Drivers going by Hurdman really don't seem to mind that people are photographing their vehicle.)

Personally I don't mind if I get in trouble by changing the designation sign but I was brought forward a similar idea so I think I'm going to do that.

Also I asked what bus we would get in case 8769 decided to break down on us, he said they would probably give us a Invero, so I said that giving this charter a low floor would complete defeat the purpose of this charter. (I was only allowed to transfer one bus from Pinecrest fyi)

So I'm going to request that they prep a 90XX just in case, one with a rollsign. Last think we want to be stuck with is a Invero, or even worse, a LFS.

I doubt 8769 will break down but it's better then getting stuck with a Invero. If I wanted to ride one of those, I could just ride route 7 or any route actually now that I think about it.

Plus in all those locations I planned photo stops, you could photograph a Invero there any day. Plus I don't want to waste $700 on a Invero. If I get a Invero the money could of been better spent on buying a retired D40 or a retired fishbowl.

But once again, I doubt 8769 will break down, this is a worse case scenario.

Hehe, I helped you out on that one, 9038 is looking good with no rust, well visible!

Point 55:

When I see something I like and when I come across excellent work like that, I get very excited!!!

I was the editor for my HS yearbook, and I always had a liking for this kind of thing, so when I see something so well done like that, it deserves to be congratulated!

About the charter signing, as long as we get a nice driver, I'm sure he won't mind, and OC can go smurf with such a stupid policy, honestly who heck would really care!!!

Having all pictures say charter kind of ruins the pictures...anyhow just do what you planned and tell OC what they want to hear.

Hope they wont send someone out to inspect us!?!

Looking forward to this great event, bought a new camera this evening just in time for this and the YUL event the following day, and it'll be great to try it out on the charter!

Hey guys,

I really don't want to but I've got to pull out of this weekend's charter due to a family emergency. :(

I really wanted to go as I have not been to O-town in 5 yrs - Orion IIIs were still in service!

Hopefully one of these years I'll make it out there! <_<

Hope everything goes smooth.

Just curious... when are the classics supposed to be all retired?

Thanks. Rob

8769 is sitting at St. Laurent Garage as we speak, so for this weekend it is not based out of Pinecrest for this charter. If anyone wants to go get pics of it before the charter, be my guest.

Also we made sure that if 8769 broke down, which it will not, we will NOT get a Low Floor. (I kept making sure till he finally told me that we will get a high floor IF it does)

If I wanted a Invero or whatever, I would just go ride any route in my area. I wouldn't go to all this trouble for something I could ride outside my door.

But they aren't willing to put aside a D40 just for us so really they might give us one with a electronic sign so that is uncertain, but this will not happen. 8769 will be working and it will be at St. Laurent on Saturday at 10 AM.

Also I request that no one takes photos before the bus shows up because we don't wanna freak out the other drives before this right? But if we see another high floor and it's not our bus, then sure by all means, take a picture.

So once again we're using the "Not in use" stop at St. Laurent, stop 3B. So it'll be quite obvious as no buses serve that stop, yet there will be a group of people there. The route was approved except for this one portion downtown but the route they sent me on anyway is better then the route I was planning on going. He also hasn't rejected any of the photostops so I think all of them are a go.

Also we'll be having a early lunch at Billings Bridge, it's early but it's the best location for a lunch stop and the charter guy even said it was the best place in Ottawa to have a lunch stop. So just letting you guys know.

Put it this way, does the driver know the Pilon sign code to change it? And those signs takes a while to change it from one sign to another.

At least sometimes until the Orion VII NG HEV comes in.

Looks like I'm Mike's Photographer, because I had to get pictures for him today :( .

Here's 8769 currently at the St.Laurent North Garage.

<img>

Point55. <_<

Yeah that's what I get for relying on Elastics to keep my camera running lol

It also looks like they are missing the fare card for 8769, oh well

I bet some of the St. Laurent drivers when they saw that were like "Oh no, it's a 87!!!!". Though I'm quite amazed they parked it in the actual bus lanes, instead of putting it in Jurassic Park. But I bet you that 9020 is our back up bus as I was in a hurry this morning and said "A 90 will do" instead of trying to request one with a rollsign. Though I did get the chance to mention "I would like one with a rollsign" but that could be why there is a D40 parked with a rollsign a few lanes down.
