Barrie has none of it, but they are coming soon! North Bay is also another system that doesn't have AA, but since the city is cash strapped, they are fine with drivers calling it out manually! Winnipeg Transit drivers did, but some others refused to completely or only called out major stops, before out AA installment. Now, the AA does most of it, and usually, the driver only announces end of runs, people to move back to the end of the bus or in the case of a teenage smartass who called him something that I obviously cant repeat on here, slammed the breaks and yelled "EXCUSE ME?!?!". You gotta admit? So you mean you speak from experience? Here in Taipei, all buses are equipped with automated announcements (the vast majority of which are in both Mandarin Chinese and English, I believe there is a newer software update that also includes Hakka Chinese), but many drivers still choose to announce the stops themselves as well. Most of the newer buses are equipped with boom microphones that allow the driver to speak over the PA without taking his/her hands off the wheel. If you drive the same route every day (and most drivers here do, there is nowhere near as much interlining as there is in some Canadian systems), then you'd get used to it. When I drove a scheduled service I thought nothing of announcing stops, even though I was using a handheld mic! I don't know about you, but I didn't find it exhausting. NPC 13 (power unit only) seems to be the latest addition. I was talking to NPC management today and there are no plans to hold onto any of the Orion IV. Apparently, they are going to auction as of December 1st. As for WEGO, the green line now only runs between Table Rock and the Floral Clock now that the main tourist season is over. The WEGO drivers still take their lunch break at Rapidsview so you will see some Novas at Rapidsivew but they aren't carrying passengers between Rapidsview and Table Rock. However some things could be improved. http://www.wegoniaga...spring-2013.pdf For the Green Line, they show the first trip departing Table Rock at 10:00 AM and then every 25 minutes until 5:05 PM. For the average customer, if I am at the stop at 1:42 PM, I guess I have to get out my calculator to determine that the next bus is in 3 minutes. Normally, when patterns are repeated on a timetable, it is for clock headways (numbers evenly divided into 60). Otherwise, it is very confusing for the customer. niatrans10 Posted October 30, 2012 Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 tender out for one or more buses; interesting item in the specifications portion of the tender under "Structural Warranty" it says "manufacturer must repair defects at no cost to Grand River Transit" , the tender also specifies USSC Aries seating and Voith DIWA .5 transmission. Also new will be two sets of stop request signs hanging from the ceiling. Obviously, the tender that was issued for Niagara Falls Transit was borrowed from GRT. It is very common for systems to use documents from other properties when compiling their tendors. In this case, I am sure that once the contract is awarded, NFT will make sure to point out to the winning manufacturer that they have to cover all defects (and notify them of the typo). If they do not, then there would be a legal loophole if there were problems. I do not think you can determine from the wording whether GRT is having problems with their Novas.
