Niagara Falls Transit

In Niagara Falls the Train and Bus Terminal are right across from each other, with a taxi stand included. That being said, I must say for a tourist city like Niagara Falls, I was kinda surprised at the area around the VIA/Coach Terminal. Both funnel in a large amount of passengers, but what really got to me was the state of the area. It wasn't really "inviting", for example I didin't notice any restaurants in the area for tourists to eat. And yes, information was a bit sparse, I did in fact have 2 people come up to me asking for a bus to the Falls. Sadly, I had no answer for them as I too was confused.

My biggest problem with Niagara Falls is that the guy at the ticket booth in the bus terminal will only sell bus tickets, and will not give information regarding Niagara Transit, or the Falls Shuttle, You must go next door to the garage to obtain maps, and information.

Another thing is that the Niagara Transit route map does not show any of the Falls Shuttle , nor does it give any hints that the service is even there, You must find a "Falls Shuttle" pamflet (which can be kind of like a game, a Scavenger Hunt!) and go from there.

Surprisingly this is also the case in a lot of places in France. In most places the train station is well-served by the local bus network, but all that is posted is the schedule. No maps tell you where the routes go or where in the city the station is in relation to where you are going. The main tourist office is usually in the centre of town away from the train station. The fact that I had printed out a map of the town I was travelling to made me an impromptu tourist office at the train station.

I agree about the hit-and-miss nature of local transit information at Ontario bus and train depots. The exception would be GO rail stations where the aim is now to promote non-auto trips (to reduce the demand for parking spaces). VIA does not often have local transit info for its riders... but there's usually a taxi waiting...

Thanks for any intel on NF access. I had overlooked the garage/offices next to the bus terminal as a source of info -- it is the Niagara Transit HQ, no?

And who owns the bus terminal itself?

PS: Just checked Google maps and neither the bus nor train station appear on the map. The train station for Niagara Falls NY is marked, with a link to Amtrak.com.

And that's not always possible because the information desk at the garage is only open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Not traveller friendly at all.

Yesterday in the falls, spotted none other than Orion VII 2369 doing the falls shuttle . Nice to see the V's running. I don't know the number but its the bus that has the Canada One Factory Outlet full wrap that's black.

Holy crap that is a once in a lifetime sight !

Actually, I went to the falls last Friday and saw 2369 on it as well as 2062 and 2267. My reaction was similar. Who knows, this could become a regular thing.

There are a few tour and charter companies that do this to the Falls and Rama
