Ah! We finally get to see the E60FLR on the trailer for final assembly.

Already it snowy and cold, but doesn't stop you guys from photographing!

Cold? Hardly cold. Just a little, tiny, wee bit chilly.

Recently found out that Beaver Bus Lines has now retired their two 1960 GM TDH-4517 #'s 28 & 29. Apparently #28 is being saved by a historical group in the Winnipeg area. I suppose these two buses were the longest last Fishbowls in Canada that were still used somewhat regularly! Retired at the age of 47. I believe Beaver Bus Lines #30 is still active and is a 1962 TDH-5301. 46 years old now and still going!

Where or in what service does Beaver Bus Lines operate this Fishbowl? I only knew them as a Charter operator.

They are mostly operated on private school runs for St. John's Ravenscourt school in Winnipeg as Beaver Bus Lines has the contract.

Do they still use Fishbowls on the line between Selkirk and Winnepeg?

No, the Winnipeg-Selkirk run is operated by Classics. The remaining GM fishbowls are used on the St. John Ravenscourt private school contract.

Here is a photo of ex-Beaver #28 from Sunday, April 13, 2008. This bus is now in the hands of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association.

Nice! I see the rims are already repainted to original condition!

We're working on it. The bus is operable now, but it needs frame work around the rear axle/engine mount in the long run. Typical GM sagging hips...

Yes.... But its expected considering the age of the bus. remember how bad Beaver #48 (1987 D40) was sagging after refurbishing / rebuilding? But apparently everything was strong on it. It was like that right after it was refurbed. As you probably know, Beaver retired that bus sometime last year. It was still going in October 2006 when I was there.

28 is in outstanding condition for its age (47). The sag is on the list to be addressed, but the group is concentrating on other projects in the meantime.

The last time I recall seeing a fishbowl on the Selkirk run was the summer of 2004 using the purple bus (6771) in this photo:

shortly after Beaver acquired it, still painted purple with flowers.

Does anyone recall any more recent times when fishbowls have been used for Selkirk?

The purple bus and the teal bus in this photo were both sold to Beaver Bus Lines and became #44 and #40 respectively. I drove #40 for the 2006-2007 school year as a SJR school bus. In the summer of 2006 #40 was used several times as a spare bus on the Selkirk run. In that summer and through the school year #44 was occasionally used as a spare on the Selkirk run, though it was mostly a spare on the school run. Both of them were sometimes used for charters as well. Both busses had several years previously been repainted in Beaver Bus Lines GM colors (all but one of the GM's were the same color of light brownish-yellow. #38 was white like the former Selkirk bus colors). They were both beautifull busses and a pleaseure to drive. #40 had an 8-71 Deroit and no other bus could come near it in power, take off or highway speed. Not even the coaches. I believe the rest of the transit buses we had were all 6-71's. #44 was donated by Beaver Bus Lines to a bible camp in Southern Manitoba (Might be Roseau River Bible Camp... I can't remember for sure) I quit there when I moved away from Winnipeg last September. At that time #40 had been made a spare school bus for the 2007-2008 school year. I love that bus. Hope that answers some of your questions.
