They may have been. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen one unfortunately. I was more wondering if there was some underlying mechanical or other oddity that made them transfer them up to Canada because maybe they didn’t fit with the rest of the X’s or something.

The 8800 series were used on the Lucky Streak service to Atlantic City, and I think they were higher mileage than typical X3-45s as a result, so they likely required more work, and may have had different specifications (such as different seating/higher seating density). They were also one year older than the earliest 86000s.

Pure speculation here, but Greyhound Canada may have needed more accessible buses (most of the lift-equipped units were D4500s that were in the process of retiring) Around the early 2010s, the Canadian fleet with wheelchair lifts would have consisted of 2000-2001 D4500s 1126-1147 (only 11 of which were refurbished), 2006 D4505s 1263-1265, and 1999 102-DL3 1325. More Canadian units were being used in pool service to NYC and Boston in the years before Greyhound Canada shuttered, which would have required additional wheelchair-equipped units.

Greyhound Lines can run the buses with the trailer hitches installed, there's no need to uninstall them. I'd say trailer-equipped buses in Canada ran without trailers more often than with trailers...

Night and day. The 88's had a 12 speed ZFast transmission and Detroit Diesel 60 engine combination, it was an absolute nightmare. For some odd reason, it didn't mesh well together, they were always breaking down. They were supposed to be sent out west after installing the trailer hitches but, those garages didn't have the proper software nor the training to do the scheduled maintenance.

The 86000's and 0600's with the 6 speed Allison transmission and Detroit series was still a terrible combination. The 86000's were very sluggish while accelerating while the 0600's was more tamed. 

86100+ and 0634+ had the newer Volvo engines, pedal to the metal when the light turns green, and those buses took off like you were driving an Audi S4 off the line.

I wouldn't hold my breath on those 600s unless all their electrical problems were solved. When we first got them in Vancouver, nothing but codes and electrical problems kept them in the garage very often. Wonder if they still smell like limestone inside to this day.

IEven if they left them on wouldnt be an issue

This was MI-151. It’s a 2019 X3-45. Since all of the lettering is gone I’m assuming the state took it back. The other 3 Michigan coaches are still running around as normal. It’s at Indian Trails yard so either they are holding it for the state or it’s being given to them for their state service.

The Detroit to Chicago Greyhound buses get serviced in Chicago. Indian Trails has its own facilities at its 3 garages in Kalamazoo, Owosso (between Lansing and Flint) and Romulus (Detroit Metro Airport) and they service their own intercity coaches there.

 

Greyhound had to give this one up because they dropped their run from Detroit to Muskegon last year. It will be wrapped for Indian Trails and put in service in the next few weeks.

Saw 0638 in Detroit yesterday... Texas plate and the appropriate USA legals are now on it. I ran the units from the Canada wiki and the 8800's through Bumper and created pages on the USA wiki with the units that were registered in Texas. If any more pop up at a later date I'll add them on. For now it looks like 0611, 0622-0623 and 0640-0648 and 8883 didn't transfer over. All the DL's are toast as well as the G's and most of the oddball H's, J's and Vanhools from the USA fleet so the wiki is now way out of date.

Some roster tweaks:

I've updated the wiki entries for 6000-6069 and 6070-6338 to reflect that all but one bus from each series of 102DL3's have been retired. Only 6059 and 6159 remain on the roster with a note that they are stored and need to be re-tagged if they are reactivated. 6159 was the 100th Anniversary display bus that toured the country in 2014.

Van Hools 702, 704-706, 3365, 3366 and 3367 have all been retired as well.

Also X3-45 8886 was retired rather than being transferred apparently. I've updated the wiki to reflect that. All of the other 88xx X3-45's are stored presently.

More roster changes... All of the coaches from 6339-6999 have been retired except for 6425, 6668 and 6990 and have been edited and moved accordingly. X3-45 0611 which came from Canada has been retired. Also added a new series of buses not on the wiki: 60580-60593 which are 2012 X3-45's.

I was on that display bus when it was in NYC.  It had a very nice display.  I wonder if it still does, or was it converted back into regular service?

It didn’t show anything about it being equipped as a display bus when I looked. But I bet that’s why it’s still around. It may go into their historic fleet they still maintain in the end. 
 

The First Group lettering on the rear is finally starting to disappear:

It looked to me when I took the photo like they added a blue sticker or tape patch over the old lettering rather than removing it. The bus on the left still has the “Brought To You By First” on the back. With about 1100 buses and seemingly irregular servicing it may be a while before they are all done.

I agree...that was their practice fleetwise...to put a state prefix on buses owned by various states for their use.

You are all correct… ours have the same prefixes. I believe it’s part of the requirements for the 5311(f) funding to get the coaches. Those particular coaches are used by Greyhound only between Detroit and Chicago… that would explain why they have been marked over already. They go to a major Maintanance facility every other day or so.

I believe those buses are wrapped and the First logo is printed instead of 'stuck' on.
