Moving into the 21st Century

Regina Transit boasts a fleet of 117 diesel buses. In 2013, Regina Transit carried just over 6.2 million passengers. The service, provided by 180 bus operators, every day of the week, except for some holidays.

In 2010, City Council began preparing to renew the Regina Transit fleet and dedicated a portion of the property tax to improving the state of the Transit fleet. In March of 2014, the City added 15 new buses to the Transit fleet and has replaced over half the Transit fleet since 2010.

In 2014, Regina Transit celebrated being 100% low floor accessible. The low floor buses provide easy access for anyone with a mobility device, scooter, stroller and more

Looks like Regina is now Classic free, making Saskatoon transit the last city in Saskatchewan to use high floor buses. Quote taken from www.regina.ca

Did they get scrapped? Sold to a buyer? Used as spare parts up north?

As far as I would know, they probably were sent to McDougalls auctions, and sold there.

I was looking through my pictures, and I have only seen two Regina Classics in service, and I've only seen classics: 555, 564, 567, 572-573, 576, 580, and 583-585

Guess I will go and work on they wiki to update it... That will take a while, there's so much out of date...

Got the Regina wiki done! All highfloors have been moved to retired section, and I updated each page with status of the vehicles. That took a while to do!

Sooo, I was going through my stuff, and I found a 4 page section from the Leader Post, back from September of 2011 talking about 100 years of Regina transit, and I found this picture...

Anyone know about this bus? It isn't on the wiki, obviously (since I just went through a major chunk of it )...

Also, like the little bit of 252 (R/N 452 in 1965) in the background?

So, I found today that 561 was destroyed by an engine fire on February 19, 2014 (right on my birthday!)

Nobody knew about this?

A Regina city councillor is encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a week and take transit.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/regina-drivers-encouraged-to-park-cars-for-week-use-buses-1.2759202

The challenge is taking place with councillors about to consider some major bus
fare increases.

If council approves, the price of a monthly bus pass will increase 21 per cent (from $62 to $75) on Jan. 1, 2015, followed by further increases in 2016 and 2017.

Nice picture!!

Thanks!

If in Regina, you better grab some pictures of the remaining New Flyer's because they scheduled to disappear early next year.

If they are retiring the D40LF's, then that must mean the 800 series LFS's are on their way out, correct?

The only thing I heard while at RTS was the 12 NFI D40 LFR's from the late 1990s and early 2000s are going. No mention of the 800 series LFS's? I did find it interesting that their fleet is now 115 busses.

Since those LFSes are from Charlotte and probably not heavily used, they probably don't have too much rust.

I'm guessing the D40LFs saw a lot of use and probably need some structural work.

Otherwise it's hard to imagine that 1st gen LFSes with a Series 40 engine would be cheaper to maintain than a D04LF.

If these LFSes are kept, they will probably be some of the last transits in the U.S. or Canada with the Series 40.

Some of you have probably seen this on Facebook already, but here it is anyways...

Regina Transit (Saskatchewan) #206 is a 1988 New Flyer Industries D40 that was originally delivered to Moose Jaw Transit (Saskatchewan) when new. #22 was sold in 2008 to Regina Transit where it ran until sometime in either late 2011 or early 2012. Kevin Lo, and myself found it parked in a storage yard de-plated in April of 2012 after it had been retired. This image among 39 others have been added to my website as of today at this direct link: http://www.busdrawings.com/Transit/sk/regina/index.htm

Have spotted the following Nova's in Regina that are not listed on the Wiki: 686, 687, 688, & 689. At this point I am not sure if there are more or not. I will post more later today if I see anymore today before I head for Saskatoon.

Saw one D40LF on my way out of town and that was #590. Also spotted and photographed ex-Charlotte Nova #'s 802 & 804.

No worries, I thought you would like to know before you left Regina.

Yes thanks. Didn't end up photographing any of the 686-691 batch but did see 686 in service today on a route 50.

Was in Regina this afternoon.

Spotted only one D40LF, that was 591. I also spotted one of the LFS's in the demo paint scheme, and a Nova ex-demo LFS. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the buses.
