Heads up: bus detours downtown start today until Jan 11 due to construction on 5 Ave SW.

They include a detour away from the existing detour due to 1 St SW being closed, but also Routes 3 and 17 NB using 7 Ave, according to the maps posted online.

Overcrowding issues on the MAX Yellow are still a persistent problem (the extras put in place recently imo aren’t anywhere near enough in a number of instances) and people getting left behind. Not surprising, given that’s also been my experience whenever I take the MY from downtown to MRU, which I try to avoid now.

That block totally needs a 60 ft bus

The best way to voice request for change would be to send in a CSR online or by calling 262-1000 if they receive enough feedback change could happen

The route is too long and ridership is too disproportionate along it IMO. Would almost be better to give MRU-Downtown its own route similar to the old 18 setup and send the MY to Brentwood/Dalhousie.

…or just add more trips MRU-Downtown in the peaks.

Made an account because I can’t find an answer to this online.

Are the bus operator plastic barriers set up during the pandemic meant to permanent, or are there plans to eventually take them down? I heard places like London are keeping theirs forever, but there’s no info on it here.

They're permanent, although CT did buy inferior quality barriers

Found a page on Facebook from a 70’s issue of Canadian Coach magazine, featuring a short piece about the retirement of Calgary Transit System’s 1965 Robin-Nodwell shuttle buses. Seems they were stored after the TDH-3501’s arrived (so 1967ish?) and offered for sale in late 1970/early 1971 with rather low mileage on them. Pretty short run in service, especially compared to 2023 CT running Arbocs for 9/10 years…

It is worth mentioning the Robin-Nodwells were used for the downtown shuttle service (the old Route 31) which had limited operating hours.  That would definetely explain the low mileage.

3 month hiatus… where the heck was it all this time?

It originally broke down in the morning on a 301 piece so best guess is something major broke on it and CT sent it back to Big Rig under warranty to be repaired. It's worth noting 6094 since entering service back in April has had several long periods of not going out so I think the repairs done by big rig had some issues that they've hopefully fully resolved this time.

I think the ride quality (or lack thereof) may have been the reason. They were known as "Rockin' Robins" and "Nodding Nodwells", possibly because they had only single rear wheels instead of duals.
