I thought they were going for electric Vicinities, of course I am way out of the loop since I no longer live in Calgary.

For the record I hate the Arbocs. Having sat on the rear bench I found the suspension to be hard. I once asked VP diesel if the rear suspension is a 2x4 and he said 'pretty much'.

Don’t forget the massively intruding wheel well (which, for the record, would likely be fine if they had placed an aisle facing seat there instead of a seat where you need to sit knees to chin…)

How was the ride quality on those? I've seen them but never got a chance to ride one when they were here

They were great. Similar to the ElDorados but maybe a tiny bit firmer absorbing the bumps.

Personally I find it to be a decent foot rest when sitting in the seat just rearward of the wheel well, the seats I have more of an issue with for leg room are the ones just above the wheel well in certain fleets which force you to sprawl out more. Brought to you by the short legs gang though 😅

I was on those buses only a handful of times … but from what I remember they felt just fine, very much like a big bus. Infinitely better than Arbocs, IMHO.

Also much better for handling crush loads due to the configuration of standing room and the presence of a back door — although I notice the electric Vicinity buses are slightly shorter (28 feet) and don't have a back door.

Do you have a source for the 185 bus order ?

While not confirmation of an order by any means, the fleet plan presented last week projects 182 30ft gas buses to be acquired in 2023. I’m not sure I’d take the length as any indicator as to what may be ordered; CT may consider Arbocs to be in the 30ft bus “category”.

It's almost as if they've forgotten Route 305 used to have more service. So my question is this: What has changed in the last decade that would make Route 305 work now vs. how things were 10 years ago?

I recall that the 305 all day but it was designed to fail. Anytime I tried to catch it on a weekend, I would get off a bus (on time) and the 305 had just gone by, next bus is 30 minutes later yet a route 1 would come by a few minutes after I got there. It seemed to be that way a lot because every major stop that would have the 1 or 305, the 1 would get lots of people and anytime I saw a 305 there were almost no riders on it. I had said then and I will say it now, you cannot expect a BRT or express service to be busy when the local route that runs the same routing, runs more often than the express. Taking the 1 back then was about every 15 minutes, so if you missed a 305 and you likely would transferring from a different route, you would see at least 2 route 1's before the next 305.

Some notes I made checking out the revisions on the 78 and the new 194 yesterday afternoon:

78:

- 78s in general seem to be a bit busier, even with the increased frequency. This is likely because of those riders that use to take the 178 that now take the 78.

- The Belmont section seems to have not too bad of usage to start off, given that I saw a few people get off at the new stops down there during rush hour.

- The majority (if not all) signage for the 178 have been removed and replaced with future bus zones (which was surprisingly quick)

- The time it actually takes getting into Chaparral from Somerset is more or less close to the time it would take if it went on Macleod, especially given traffic during peak.

Less so from visual observations, but checking the trips on transit55, I've noticed they made changes for the school trips to Centennial for the 78, since the school trips were previously on the 178. The AM trip starts NB at Chaparral Drive & 194 Ave SE and only does the loop around Chaparral, skipping Belmont and Somerset, and heads straight to Centennial HS. I could see this being an issue and also being misleading towards unsuspecting riders who are catching it to Somerset, which leads to looking at how the afternoon trip is like. The afternoon trip begins at Centennial, and does the same thing, skipping Somerset Station, and Skipping the Belmont section, and heads straight into Chaparral, ending at SB Chapala Drive & Chapala Road (like really?). Personally I think given with the changes, one should just make this school trip a school route like a 788 or something along the lines, because I can see confusion and problems with how this trip is designed (compared to before where the 178 would do the full loop and serve Somerset), or make changes so these trips do the full route.

194:

- Very similar to how the 444 was, ridership remains soft except for trips close to school dismissal times, riders were mostly school kids anyways even during peak trips outbound.

- Most riders got off or on in Walden, and 1 or 2 at best in Chaparral Valley (as it normally was)

- No riders got on or off in Wolf Willow (I'm assuming this will change overtime but in the meantime I expected the Wolf Willow section to have very little, if not, nonexistent ridership).

On the other hand, while I was waiting for the 78, I noticed a couple of people (maybe planners?) take down the 102 stickers and 102 notice change signs by the WB stop just beside the Somerset loop where the 15 stopped (weird given they were placed in the wrong place before the changes, yet somehow they didn't remove the signage for the 15 yet). Photos of that attached.

Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention but I don’t remember the 40LFR’s (or the 60’s, for that matter) having ODK4 modules…. 8066

There's a few units that have had their odk's replaced with the newer units 6057 also has a new one I attached a crappy photo showing that.

"Mom, can we have a Reindeer Bus?"

The fact that they chose a bus with a half ad wrap really seals the deal

Beginning Jan. 1, Calgary Transit will no longer require a fare for children aged 12 and under to ride city buses and CTrains.

Calgary Transit has adjusted its age definitions for youth and children for the start of 2023.

A single fare for youth, which will include the ages of 13 through 17 and high school students, will be $2.45 while a monthly pass will be $82.

Prior to this fare adjustment, passengers between the ages of six and 13 were considered youth and required a ticket.

It appears they have changed the program on route 3 back to Elbow Dr instead of Heritage

Is it possible for the destination signs to be a little more dynamic? For example, Route 3 could display …

3 Elbow Dr SW ➡️ 3 to Heritage Station 🔁
3 Centre St ➡️ 3 to Sandstone 🔁

Some other routes could benefit from this kind of display, so for someone without a smartphone, the buses would help with basic navigation/wayfinding.

10 Fairmount Dr SE ➡️ 10 to Southcentre 🔁
10 Macleod Tr ➡️ 10 to City Hall 🔁

I’m sure I’ve seen Airdrie Transit signs display this way.

When I drove the 3 I would put the PR code for South if heading south and North if heading north because of Heritage station. The older signs allowed the driver more leeway in adding things like that.

It would be nice if Calgary did adapt something like Vancouver as per your example, but it’s highly unlikely since like another member said, it’s Calgary

Idk if this goes here, but anyone know the odds of one of the pm max purple buses going to chestermere having a bike rack?

i need one for tomorrow

If it’s the articulated key it will have one 99% of the time and out of the 4 forty foot buses 7921 and 7922 have bike racks
