Took a look at 7751 today. I am sure she is done for. I believe it is safe to say she will be off the roster soon.

I saw this bus today from the highway as i passed the garage and wow i have to say good night d40lf.

I did see a jimmy parked there too. very nice viewings for getting into the city. and what next was a c-train... i love this city. always something exciting to see. hehe too bad no trolley's though but ill have my electric traction with the C till i get back to Edmonton!

While visiting in Calgary today, i spent some time on the BRT. have to say that it was really just an express route.. i didnt find much different.probably because the driver had an addiction to red lights lol. However, to my happiness, 1159 was out so riding a jimmy made it all worth it.

Currently there is a switching issues so trains are delayed about 10 minutes all over and car 2212's doors wont work so you have to go to the next one...

Does #1159 have a transponder thing for the transit priority measures on the 301? Does it work?!

Silly Calgary Transit... you don't put a bus on a route that isn't equpied to operate it!

1159 has a Traffic Signal Priority system installed on it. So generally there shouldn't be too many red lights if you were on the 301. Unless the system wasn't working or the driver had it off for some reason.

Really all the "BRT" 301 is a full time limited stops express route. Even though its not really a BRT, it is still a really nice service to have. It is very quick when the equipment works properly, usually it does. The ridership on that route has grown a lot and service hours have increased as well in the 27 months the route has operated. The 301 is likely to be the first route to get the articulated buses. Most if not all the 301 bus bays have been expanded to accomadate articulated buses.

Kind of reminds me of the old "Blue Arrow's" they used to run down there. You paid a premium fare (extra .10 I believe) and you got premiums service, a super express (In ETS terms)

Yup now they have premium express routes that have a surcharge of 25 cents. Only 5 of them remain, there use to be more. The number of them has decreased over the past few years as LRT has expanded farther outwards into more and more suburbs, providing quicker feeder bus connections. Thus eliminating these express routes along with regular express routes (from downtown).

Though of course the 301 has no premium fare.

I drove by spring gardens today and seen 7751 it looked badly damaged wish I had my camrea, but I really think it may still be re-built one day

Doubtful

The bus is 5 years old now, the cost in repairs would be very expensive as the entire bus was damaged badly. Doubtful that they would repair it. #7563, also suffered a fire similar to what #7751 suffered. #7563 was only about a year old at the time too.

Collect the insurance money and buy a replacement bus.

What I ment is the bus might be rebuilt by another party, like a writen of car. I bought a write off 3 years ago, I rebuilt it, painted it and got it re-certified and still drive it today and saved bg bucks doing that and nobody would ever know it if they seen the before and after pics of it

Um, anything with damaged vehicle and rebuild is a huge loss of structual and lifespan cut short.

Anyway, I still haven't seen the fire damaged bus yet. Mind you the insurance is very critical when it comes with cost.

The Premiem Fare add on is 50 cents now and has been for quite a number of years.

I took a look at the bus the other day at Spring Gardens, and the lower floor frame does not look damaged.

They have already begun to fix #7902 BTW! Saw it inside the shops the other day at Spring Gardens.

like to see some Pics! Any idea when Edmonton gets there new ones?

Yup! I have Photos on my website already in the Calgary Transit Photo Gallery. Check 'em out!

I remember that, 4908 went down. Wonder what they need another one for. :(

I don't think ETS can spare a d60lf.. considering they usually have 1 or 2 at Waterous and almost everyone of the ones we have gets changed off at some point every other day...

Hmm... ETS has like 500 D40LF's and you say they can't spare one? I assume you mean D60LF. ! :-p

They can't spare either. The garages are empty during rush hour.

Heck lately they are actually changing off trolleybus for a trolleybus and have even ran stub services because they don't have enough to do a complete dieselization!

lThey can't spare either. The garages are empty during rush hour.

Ferrier's not.

I believe the problem is we don't have buses avalible for service... they are waiting to be fixed because ETS doesn't have enough mechanics.

Considering they are trying to fill 12 positions right now...

If each mechanic fixes 1 bus per day, works 5 days a week... if we are short 12 mechanics... that's 60 buses a week not being fixed. That's probably a bit of an extreme example, I don't know the exact breakdown of what those 12 positions are needed for. Some might be so that they have extra mechnics avalible in case more quit and go look for jobs in the private sector, which seems to be paying a hell of a lot more than the city right now.

Calgary Transit - 2234 has arrived

I got a tip from another member of this group (He can reveal himself if he wants to), that Siemens LRV car #2234 had arrived. So I headed down there within minutes of getting the message to photograph it at the Rail spur that was built specially for receiving LRV car deliveries. I found out that this unit already arrived this past Friday afternoon and that it will probably be unloaded tomorrow. See Attached pics and Enjoy!

Can't remember if some of this was mentioned already, but it has been announced that Calgary Transit has ordered 43, 40 foot buses. These buses are already apparently on the assembly line at NFI, so we should be seeing them beginning to arrive any day now. As for the 6 articulated buses, they have already been discussed on this board already AFAIK. These are supposed to be arriving in the Spring of this coming year.

Will be a bit interesting to see if CT goes to 8000 after bus #7999 or back down to the first half of the 7000's (7011-7500) or start the entire order at 8000 maybe or some other number
