So 300 and 304 in service. What a waste that we get these units built and then can't get them into service. Is Bombardier delivering them too quickly?

Driver story so not sure how credible: Some regional garages are completing expansions to hold new buses expected to start arriving in January 2016.

Is there an active order out there? I do recall something about a long term ADL "lower-height" DDs if ADL - Ontario could arrive at a plan to assemble in Ontario.

What? they can't pull as double header for a longer 12 car trains?

I think he means because of this below. Someone at GO or BBD needs a good smack to the side of their head:

Not sure, but the fact that they(stupidly) use a new type of revereser(and door key) and have no spares to give out to crews at this time might be part of the problem. The reverser has to be signed out.

Yes, becasue lets change a part that has been pretty much standard on locomotives since whenever (Googles when the first diesel was built in the 1920's or 30's.....).

Well it may be to differentiate the type of equipment? They wouldnt do it for no reason.

Oh, they probably did it for a reason, and whatever reason they had was probably a stupid one, as it seems neither party was prepared in the event more than one new cab car was delivered..

Why does the Lakeshore West run limited into Hamilton GO Stn?

The track between Aldershot and Hamilton (specifically the section from Desjardins to Hamilton GO) is owned by CP and is only one track through the Hunter Street tunnel before the station, meaning that there is very little trackage for GO to share with CP. There have been rumors bouncing around for ages about widening the tunnel to allow more trains through but it would be an incredibly costly project since apartment buildings and utilities have been located above and around the tunnel since it was built a century ago, a project that would cost a lot more than GO would be able to pay for and something that CP probably wouldn't be interested in doing.

The tunnel is already more than wide enough for two tracks.

The issue with it is the overhead height, however. The ceiling of the tunnel is arched, meaning that the easiest way to improve the overhead clearances of the line as cars got bigger and bigger over the past 100 years was to put a single track right in the middle.

Rebuilding it back to two tracks would not be overly difficult as the tunnel was built by cut-and-cover construction, and that same method could be used again (in concert with a couple of other techniques) to allow for two tracks with improved clearances. The issue, however, is that CP only runs about 6 or 8 trains a day down there, and they have absolutely no need for two tracks through there. The cost of such a project would be have to be entirely borne by GO, and even then there's not a huge amount of interest in doing so in the short term as there's no way to extend the line any further, nor connect it with the CN's Grimsby Sub further north.

Might we presume they have a "fix" for the smaller crew area? No date given for 667's arrival.

What fix? The cab is virtually the same as every other MP40.

The latest I heard about the Tier IV units was that they were supposed to start being delivered in the middle of next year.

That release certainly seems to contradict the rumour that 666 was going to be a one-off. Presumably the traction system noted in the release is similar to what they put in HSP46?

666 is a regular MP40. Are you referring to 647, which is the unit that was rebuilt?

647 uses the same trucks and traction motors as a regular MP40. The production MP54ACs will use AC traction motors, but not necessary the same as what is in MBTAs HSP46s, which were supplied by GE.

Oops. Yes, I meant 647. Thanks for the clarification.
