YRT-Guy
Don't you mean the 05:07 Lakeshore East Westbound Train that gets the 99% on-time performance, since this is the train that gets like very little traffic due to its early bird operation? whoopss.. your right.. typo.. I've edited my origional post.. thanks
D. DeLarge
I'm even not surprised that the Georgetown bound PM Rush trains are not that reliable with the schedules. Interesting statistics. One that stands out to me is: Georgetown line, train deps Union at 17:45, arr Georgetown at 18:45...on time performance: 66% Having heard it over the scanner many atimes, this train (good ol' unreliable 211) is constantly late due to equipment problems, delays, freight trains, etc.
Enzo Aquarius
I was talking to one of my favorite GO Transit drivers the other day, and we were discussing about the soon-to-be-retired 1500s and early MCI 2100 window leakage problems (a driver reported over the radio about a water leak). He told me that GO Transit is working under a '10 years and retire' rule for their buses. If this is true, this is what the retirement dates could be like: 1500s - 2008 1600s (Prevosts) - 2009 2000-2007 (Orion) - 2010 However, supposedly the older MCIs are supposed to be refurbished, but following the 10 year rule, they would be retired in 2011-2012, which only gives them an extra 3-4 years of service after refurbishment. DavidH
2000-2007 (Orion) - 2010 All in one swoop? That seems surprising, although I won't mind. I've had too many overcrowded V trips when I would have been comfortable had a coach showed up.
Shaun
Considering highway coaches are intended to last much longer than transit busses, they shouldnt need to be retired at 10 years. However it does mean a much younger average fleet, with less problems. Depends on how much it costs to rebuild a bus after 10 years, compaired to buying a new one. Orion9131
To be honest, I find it hard to believe that GO would retire a bus after 10 years. 13, sure. Not 10.
smallspy
He told me that GO Transit is working under a '10 years and retire' rule for their buses. He's wrong. GO plans to retire their buses after 12 years of service. The Prevost's, if they are retired this year, are obviously the exception to the rule. He was probably working under the assumption that the remaining 1500s are being retired after 10 years of service with GO. Ah well, just using what I've heard. Anyways looking at the ontime performance the richmondhill line seems to have the worst of the bunch. Maybee they should adjust the schedule to reflect acutal trip times. Richmond Hill at 06:28 Union at 07:08 84 Richmond Hill at 06:58 Union at 07:38 79 Richmond Hill at 07:28 Union at 08:08 72 Richmond Hill at 07:58 Union at 08:38 79 With no trains above 85% i would have to say that it's bad. I was on the 7:58 train and found it to be standing room only in every single car. But go transit's stats dont say that. Wonder why.

Jammed-packed-people-standing-sitting-on-the-stairs full or SRO with space to move around? With those conditions at ~80% capacity, you should see what it's like on the Milton line where trains are over 100% capacity!

These numbers only say that the trains run on time for that percentage. Yes, they are bad, but you have to consider that the trains on the Richmond Hill line have to deal with the multitude of freights on both the Bala Sub north of Doncaster and the York Sub. I'll try and remember to post up the capacity/load factor numbers for a couple of trains when I get home tonight. Dan
YRT-Guy
New GO Schedules effective Saturday April 26, 2008 are now posted online: http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/sch...usschedule.aspx More specifically I was interested in the new Richmond Hill Centre - Pearson - Square One schedule (named Route 40: Airport Express) http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/sch...tion=&new=Y

I can't see many people on those buses at 4:10AM, especially on a Sunday morning. I find the whole route strange, and the Square One-Pearson route should really be handled by Mississauga Transit as the bus doesn't even leave the municipality. Are there really enough riders demanding 30 minute service between the two 20 hours a day, 7 days a week? That's better than most MT routes, especially on Sundays or after 9PM. Confirming the fact that GO's adding this, yet not touching the weekend service on Table 31 just makes me want to shake my head.

It makes sense for GO to run it in that event. I know airport employees will use it too, but from what I've seen on Brampton Local, its mostly people catching flights. trainmaster_1
Such nice delays this afternoon, GO 493 (the 1702 westbound express to Clarkson, all stops to Hamilton) died in TTR territory at the other side of the tunnel near Bathurst St. so they had GO 465 (1713 all stops to Oakville) stopped behind him, tie on and shove them to Exhibition to make a double stop before being pulled out of service. They canceled the 925 (1743 all stop to Burlington) and run them equipment to Exhibition to pick up the stranded passengers for the trip to Aldershot making all stops. My train GO 211 was stopped at Weston on account of an 8 mile rule 42 limit in which we couldn't hear the foreman at all for instructions. I kept calling and calling till we finally got a hold of him, we realized he didn't move his rule 42 flags which resulted in more delays for us at Etobicoke North. A lot of flights leave at 6am. True, but on a Sunday morning? Buses will be leaving Square One and Richmond Hill hours before any other buses meet to make any useful connections. Otherwise the 4:00AM buses make some sense. To be honest, I'm mostly wondering about this because I don't see the logic of this route, while at the same time leaving other routes, like route 31 without the hourly bus service it needs and deserves. I think the route would be useful. I would take it, it's easier than getting to York Mills, but i'm surprised that it doesnt serve Langstaff, but since the bridge is built i guess it's the same thing. But there are no other GO connections at RHT, but you could technically walk to Langstaff which has a lot of potential transfers.
Shaun
take heart, they'll all make it to good homes. they're too well maintained to die anytime soon. I rode on a 2200 series the other day, and even though the driver had it to start on 2, it jerked like crazy when stating up. Is that normal? Or he doesnt know how to modulate the pedal? They seem to take longer to get up to speed, costing time in the schedule.
