When new buses are delivered to Kalihi, they normally go into revenue service in a reasonable period of time. When new buses are delivered to Pearl City, they sit idle, gathering dust, for weeks and weeks (e.g. the 6000s). I’ll never understand…

If you see them still running on service, please let me know, or message me, so I can remove them off my list, I am 80% positive these busses are blacked out and now retired and sent to scrap.

Since I been to Pearl City Bus Facility a dozen of times, I do see a lot of black out on most on gillig phantoms and 1 D60LF blacked out.

I also have been tracking of the 6000s and I believe up to more are coming soon, so far, we have 6001-6046.

120 is not in the yard and it was sent to the owner so it must’ve been towed for scrap.

918 did not retire. It has a fresh coat of paint. Could not see inside. It's on Route 40 today, 7/18/2022.

It looks like there are going to be at least 31 units of the 6000s in this first batch that will be rolling into service this year (6001-6031), which is just about enough to replace the 32 2002/2003 D60LF 100-131 that is likely to be retired as a result of the new artics rolling into service.

As of right now, the remaining 100s are still active. (Except for 100, 101, 112, 119, 120, and 127).

Another thing to keep an eye on are the 2006 New Flyer DE40LFRs 901-940. OTS TheBus  is currently not a big fan of those hybrid buses now and tend to retire the older ones earlier than their diesel bus counterparts. We can see this with the 2004 DE60LFs 132-141 that were 2004 hybrid models that retired back in 2020. Meanwhile, the 2002/2003 D60LFs which are diesels are still active for now.

It is 2022 right now and the 900 new flyer hybrids are 2006 models. Not saying those buses are going to retire this year (I hope that aren’t) but it is a possibility based on the precedent of 132-141 which ran for just 16 years so try to keep an eye out for those New Flyer 900s.

can’t wait to ride a 6000 soon! I wonder how they sound like?  I’m not currently on Oahu but will be back here in a month so please let me know if they sound like the 880-896s or not?

From DTS:

DTS has been awarded $20 million to purchase new battery electric buses by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA)! The funding is part of a Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that increases funding for low-and no-emission buses.

The City has a total of 17 electric buses that are currently serving different routes across the island. We are planning to use these grants and additional funds to purchase more EV buses for the fleet. We expect to see these new EV buses in 2024.

Near September or October, the 100s should be retired by now.

As the new 6000s are rolling into service, the early 100s New Flyer D60LF are slowly but surely starting to retire, although more so, one by one, rather than altogether, like how it was with the recently retired 801-853 Gillig phantoms or the 2004 New Flyer DE60LFs 132-141.

I just checked the pantograph app and from there, it looks like more 100s are now being retired. In addition to units 100, 101, 112, 119, 120, and 127, which all retired many months ago, it now seems like 114, 115, 116, 123, 130, and 131 are all just recently retired. I’m not 100% sure but it is looking really likely that they are now retired because more new 6000s are appearing on GPS, which as we all know by now are the replacements of 100-131.

The new 6000s are definitely great. I just wished there were some seats in the bendy part of those buses, like how it is in almost all of our current fleet of artics.

Any idea which series might be the next to retire?
