Alika.valdez1234
@Honolulu TheBus just follow this link and add honolulu_phantom on the list. I know he trying to get on our nerves and makes us fall for things, getting too excited then end up wondering and also being discrimination to most things on people even people who has disabilities. @Honolulu TheBusI don’t know what he’s replying on your post since I’ve blocked and ignored this user. Also I have a feeling this honolulu_phantom person knows one of us, I feel that probably this person honolulu_phantom knows me since high school since I’ve been bullied a lot in high school because my favorite vehicle was buses. I won’t tell that person’s name but hopefully this person is the user. 2 minutes ago, Alika.valdez1234 said: @Honolulu TheBus just follow this link and add honolulu_phantom on the list. honolulu_phantom
Nobody is being “discrimination” however, I am stepping in Alika, because the way you talk to people on here that have basic questions is quite rude. Folks obviously share the same passion for the hobby you do and if you posses more information than a fellow member, maybe take the time to explain or share what you know rather than berate someone. I certainly don’t know you or any member for that matter on a personal level. My recommendation to you? Be nicer to folks on here who share a liking to your passion. Williamv
OTS is still deploying 25-year-old high floor Gillig Phantoms (301, 310, 312, 317 etc.) as rush hour extras. Wouldn’t it make more sense to retire these polluters and send out some of our new and unused electric buses? Is there a problem with the 40-foot electric buses? Some have been here more than a year but revenue service is usually limited to a couple of buses for a few runs each day. Other 40-footers have never left the yard at all except for testing. On the other hand, 3501, a 35-foot electric bus, is in service almost every day, rain or shine, on route 122. Is there more confidence in our one 35-footer? Is there a shortage of drivers? Too few mechanics trained for electrics? Not enough charging equipment? Are rollouts of electrics this slow in other cities? Many questions that need to be answered as we prepare for an influx of new electric buses in the coming years.

eli
Hey all! Just joined & wanted to say poke my head in to hi. I'm a transit fan living in Honolulu and have used the the CPTDB wiki a couple times in looking up info about TheBus fleet. I'm not really into riding specific buses and know nothing about anything related to bus makes/models/manufacturers, but I do collect transit cards from places around the world I've traveled to, and trade these with others (I also maintain a list/spreadsheet of all the LA TAP card and Seattle ORCA card designs… still hoping there will be a limited edition or commemorative HOLO card design one of these days!) I've also sent all TheBus timetables/maps (from TheBus Pass Office at Kalihi Transit Center) to some friends who live elsewhere but collect them from various agencies, and the last I heard when asked the workers there is that they're planning to print & make available a physical copy of the full system map at some point this year, since it just got updated in late 2021 (so they were holding off until that). And hopefully Phase 1 of the HART rail will actually (finally) open this year too, I guess we'll see!

I’d hope that we could get maybe one large order of LFSe buses to help supplement the Gillig HEV order. I would like to see some variety within our fleet but I guess we will see. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also, I’ve been seeing these posts with solar panels on top. Decided to investigate today and it’s a light. Worst part is that they decided to plop it right in the middle of the sidewalk. My question being: why light the sign and not the shelter and why do we need lights? Many questions that need to be answered as we prepare for an influx of new electric buses in the coming years. To answer questions 1 and 2, I speculate that some of the 4000s are being put out all day and need extra time to charge. I’m not sure about the 300 and 800 Phantoms but they are starting to look tired. 3501 hasn’t been out in a while so I’m not sure what is going on there. Probably will be explained below. To answer paragraph 3 and 4, I think both of those are coming into play here. OTS is always looking to hire buses and from my understanding some of the new drivers don’t like the work load and end up leaving after a year or so. In terms of charging equipment I don’t think we actually have enough which causes extended periods of bus downtime. As for the other 4000s that haven’t been on the road at all, there may be some minor defects or issues with the bus, causing OTS to either send it back or to keep it out of service. I think that the charging equipment and slow rollout of electric buses is partly due to the shipping involved to get chargers and buses to HNL. I know that on the mainland, buses and equipment are just loaded up on a truck or towed to their destination which makes things a little quicker. Williamv
“Furnish and Deliver Forty (40) Foot, Heavy-Duty, Low-Floor, Clean Diesel Buses for a Three (3) Year Period” Above is a new listing from the city’s website for bidding opportunities. What about replacing our worn-out 60-foot buses and providing charging equipment in country areas?
