The Bus (Honolulu, HI)

Saw BUS 302 parked inside Hawaii Film Studio on 18th Avenue. Assume it's retired and use for filming. Looks like beginning of an end to 300 series Phantoms.

Are all the 700 series pulled from service? Haven't seen them in a while, even on rush hours.

I am sure TheBus sell some retired buses, but I don't think there are many buyers out there to absorb every unit.

Yes, all 700-series Phantoms have been removed from the fleet. 785-795 were decommissioned in mid-December. 774-784 were decommissioned at the end of the 1st week of February.

Kind of surprised to see that the 300-series Phantoms are retiring a bit early. I anticipated that they would last around a good year or so. Can't tell if all of them are affected, so we'll have to wait until the weekdays. Until then, nothing is coming up on the Division of Purchasing for OTS. If the company is going to purchase a new set of buses, it's probably going to be Gillig Low Floors again.

If 302 is going to be used for filming, I bet that it's going to be used for Hawaii-Five-0.

Upon looking for Gillig Phantom pics that I need for a footage, I managed to stumble across this. It's a Chance Coach RT-52 on the old Waialae Nui route. My speculations tell me that OTS ordered 10 of these as fleet numbers 20-29. These may or may not be related to the RT-52s used in the Wiki-Wiki Shuttle. This was the very pic that I was hunting for.

Speaking of footage, upcoming videos include a DE60LF, an Opus bus that I claim as a favorite, and two Gillig Phantoms (One having the rainbow-livery + ISM, another being a revisit to a rehabbed Phantom on a freeway run).

As a Five-0 viewer and follower, I can say that indeed 302 was used for filming for the season finale. As for April 1st's episode, another Gillig Phantom gets commandeered by Danno to chase some people who stole his car. That Phantom was renumbered 3265.

I'm looking at the Division of Purchasing from the Honolulu government website right now. There's two proposals for furnishing and delivering 40' and 60' clean-diesel low floors along with two more proposals for paratransit. Those have an opening date of 5/6/2016. If I have to guess, it's going to be another set of Gillig Low Floors and New Flyer XD60s.

What was the episode name that featured the other Phantom?

The episode that aired yesterday was "Episode Title: (#HF618) "Kanaka Hahai (The Hunter)"

"Kanaka Hahai" - When a man is found left for dead drifting off the coast of Oahu, Five-0 uncovers a deadly slave trade operating aboard an illegal fishing vessel. Also, while Danny is out with his children, his car is stolen so he commandeers a bus to chase down the thieves, on HAWAII FIVE-0, Friday, April 1 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Here a pic of 302 all shot up:

There are more pictures in this album, just need to scroll to the bottom/latest ones to see 302 being used for the season finale.

I already know that the episode "Kanaka Hahai" features the current Phantom. There was an older episode that had the other Phantom commandeered. What was it called?

As for the simulated shooting, what was 302 wasn't the real 302, but was actually 794 (Hint: Old-style passenger indicator and older grill style at the back).

Great catch on the numbers. Why would they number it 302 for the show?

Not too sure what's going on with the brainstorming process with this one. Fleet number suggests 302, but the licenses say 3489, and the fleet number on the inside of the bus says 3265.

Thank the guys who took photos of the bus and posted it on Facebook.

May I ask where is this bus 794 or fake bus 302 located at? I wanna visit?

I'm pretty sure the filming crew took it away somewhere since they're done with filming the bus scenes. It may be either held up or waiting for scrapping.

There are actually two fake BUS 302s. Saw them on Hawaii Film Studio on 18th Avenue today. One of the units have window frame removed and bullet holes on the body. Other unit has no damage.

The unit on the episode that aired, I think it's a different bus, not 302. Noticed exterior logo has "TheBus City and County of Honolulu", and there was a bus in Hawaii Film Studio a few months ago with the logo, but it's no longer there.

Well It's about time they still auction/bid these buses because my dad is willing to buy these GILLIG  buses for scrap (just in case our bus breaks down) and use one of the Black Seat frabic top and bottom on his 1994-95 BUS#601 GILLIG phantom he bought from the city 3-4 yrs ago. Everything turns on, He has everything put back together with some help of the mechanics from the pearl city division but except 10 seats are missing black frabics top and bottom. Me and My family still uses it only for special occasions like going around the island etc..... And NO we are not selling our -FAMILY BUS- period. But if you want, ask me for tours we charge $200 for tour rides outsiders, but except I asked my dad last night if I can let any of you who are on this top he says" I charge nothing! But the main thing is if only you know any friends" my dad said and yes you can take recording of this bus too! But not all the time guys!

I might have predicted that this would happen once Hawaii Film Studio got a hold of the two city buses back then.

801 and 365 are still in service.

I guess it's just the case of the GPS signals acting up.

As for 873 on the E, I think that's the same one that I saw on the C. I also saw one of the 300-series on the 62 yesterday. Going to have to call those buses "back-scratchers" from now on.
