Williamv
According to the Altoona Bus Test website, the Gillig 40-foot battery electric bus is not listed among vehicles that have passed the test. And, outside of one bus in revenue service in Santa Monica, CA, Gillig reports that it is not expected to deliver any of those vehicles before May. Oahu should be receiving new 29-foot diesels from Gillig soon, but no telling when we will see any battery electric 40-footers. Meanwhile, many American cities seem happy with their Proterra and New Flyer electric buses. I’m sure Gillig and Cummins will eventually produce a fine bus. But I wonder if city purchasers would have made the decision to go with Gillig if they had known it would take this long. They originally predicted the first deliveries in 2019. Let’s hope our 23-year-old Gillig Phantoms will continue to run well.
Jared Kam
I think the question comes down to - once they pass, how long will it take to produce a fleet for any bus company, let alone TheBus. Here in San Jose, VTA is running 1999 Gillig LF buses also waiting for the Gillig Electrics to be approved (they are not satisfied with the Proterras). From the factory shots that I have seen I haven't seen a backlog of shells ready to go...meanwhile other fleets are getting tons of new buses (Miami-Date comes to mind). Should be interesting...

New Flyer 60-foot electrics are already operating in multiple cities.

Only1Moore
That may explain why I saw Bus 100 stripped of its accordion rims at Pearl City. Can’t miss it next to the now-dead 925.

Rotidua
Well I'll be damned. The Fire Department's Waipahu Division sold their 1993 TMC RTS-08 back in March. It went cheap too. Final bid on this one was $777 on the public surplus auction. VIN: 1TUMDT9A6PR829339 HFD DISPOSALS-BUS.pdf 1
Alika.valdez1234
While @Rotidua is updating us about the RTS bus made in 1993 that went out for auction by HFD. I forgot to mention more buses about my trip to the Philippines back in January. A 1994 600 series operated by Fariñas Transit waiting at the Bus terminal drop off in Barangay 7 area, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte for its first trip to Manila. Well it looked like a 652 because when I took a closer look above the driver side windows where the unit number was fully faded, I can still see 652 visible.

Williamv
Couldn’t find any info about the city purchasing Proterra buses. Checked Proterra website, TheBus website and the news wires. Always assumed the new 35-foot buses would come from Gillig so all new buses except the 60-footers could use the same charging infrastructure. Williamv
Thank you @Alika.valdez1234 for screen shots of the document, which I was not able to download. It appears to be a discussion of the RFP between Proterra and a city purchasing administrator. I can’t find anything that states Proterra has won the contract. Also, Honolulu is listed as a customer on the proterra.pdf document but not on the Proterra website. The final deadline for solicitations is June 8, and there undoubtedly will be other bidders. We’ll see what happens.
Williamv
Salamat for the “like” @Alika.valdez1234. The Division of Purchasing has just listed new solicitations for both electric and diesel 40-foot buses and for diesel 60-foot buses. Does anybody know what’s keeping the city from ordering any New Flyer 60-foot electric buses?
