Just to let you know: Just because a Honolulu Bus refurbishes to Blue Seats , that's not going to make TheBus hybrid.
Princess Daisy D 19
#106 Turned Yellow Recently. Was operating on Route C today. #102 & #104 are still Rainbow and should be Yellow by the end of 2017. #105 is Yellow now. And why are they changing TheBus logos to some 2002 & 2003 NewFlyer D60LFs? And when they change a 2003 Gillig Advantage into a Yellow Bus , they change TheBus logo to #230 - #263 , #280 - #297 and the #600 ( #601 - #665 and #667 - #677 ) Gillig Advantages. Image was taken by Puppet Jeff. If you never know , #802 is on the Road right now. It's not on GPS. It started operating I think a few months ago on Route 90. Image taken by Puppet Jeff. #120 does not have a rare seat anymore. #120 has 100% Red Seats now.
Alika.valdez1234
Very Late Update!!! Around June Bus 831 had a partly brake problem.. I heard from a driver that 831 had an unexpected brake issue and caused 831 hitting into somewhat... but December 2017 it’s back in service.. it’s very similar to bus 802 having some similar issue... Princess Daisy D 19
Did you know that #105 & #106 are Yellow now? All the rare seats are moving and #129 has 100% Red Seats. If you don't know , this might happen Next March : #201 - #211 , #836 - #845 , #110 - #116 , and #30 - #33 might transfer to Kalihi And #523 - #545 , #950 - #957 , #40 - #43 , and #170 - #176 might transfer to Pearl City next March. I heard about that. That happened in Waianae. Are there any Honolulu Buses that are going to have New Red Seats and take out all the Black Seats on like 2002 Gillig Phantom buses? The Honolulu Bus are having like New Black Seats for the 2003 NewFlyer ( the lowered numbers for the 2003 NewFlyer D60LF Honolulu Buses ) and Gillig Advantage Buses ( from the higher ones (1s ) ). * For the 2002 Gillig Phantom Buses , I would like #838 , #845 , and #852 to have 100% Red Seats. Williamv
Interesting that OTS put only four new buses (674-677) on the road in 2017. Especially since we have 21-year old vehicles (the lower 300s) still in service. The CPTDB wiki also lists 678-698 as part of our fleet. Have these buses been ordered, manufactured or delivered? In any case, this may be our last order of 40-foot diesel buses as the Division of Purchasing website lists a Request for Interest for 40-foot all electric transit buses: RFI-DTS-1157909. Williamv
Good to see the roster section of the CPTDB wiki has been updated. However, it still lists 38 and 39 as being retired. Both were in service this week on route 503. In the Retired section, the 1985 order from Saab-Scania consisted of units 800-846. Not quite as sure of the 1987 units. 501-585? 501-594? 501-595? Gillig buses 774-784 from 1996 are still missing from the list. And there was no Gillig series 981-1004 in 1984.

Princess Daisy D 19
New Hybrid Bus! The numbers are R1 and R2. TheBus that is New is Battery Electric and Zero (0) Tailpipe Emissions! They're going to use these buses on trusted routes were it won't be vandalized. It's Kalihi Division ( Kalihi Garage ). It's either Gillig or NewFlyer bus. Bus #952 broke down in Downtown today. MAX BRT
The first bus appears to be a Proterra Catalyst demo bus. epsilonix
It is a Proterra Catalyst bus! I saw it traveling down South Beretania a moment ago. I guess these are the 5 new electric buses that OTS ordered, which is weird because the Star Advertiser said they'd be made by Gillig.
Rotidua
Proterras eh? When I looked at the Division of Purchasing website, they mentioned a request of interest for 40ft battery-electric buses. I assumed that they were just going to survey the different bus builders for the bid. Didn't expect them to be on test drives. I can't wait to see how they perform on these roads. MAX BRT
The city this week unveiled its new 100-percent electric bus. The vehicle is on loan from Proterra Inc. It is being used for a month-long pilot project on 23 established routes throughout Oahu. http://khon2.com/2018/01/30/city-unveils-electric-bus/

While I do like to see a LFSe prototype out onto the streets, I think the company's interest with NovaBUS is drained. That ADA non-compliance with the 2010 LFS models was a dissatisfactory moment OTS had with the bus maker. The same issue may happen again with the electric ones. http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/14643314/new-city-buses-need-ada-retrofitting Speaking of ADA compliance, I'm hearing word from the same friend of mine that the Proterra Catalyst BE40 demo isn't doing so well with the elderly. According to him, there are no vertical grab bars, and the horizontal ones are too high for shorter people to reach. The only means for stable footing is limited to the grab handles on the seat frames.

I'm sure this issue with stanchions can be addressed in the bidding process - TheBus seems to be particular when it comes to seat selection these days (most recently with the USSC Gemini seats) so I am sure that it would be an easy fix. Are they just charging these buses at the Kalihi Facility? Has anyone seen any charger construction anywhere on the island? That might inform which direction they are going in - the Proterras have had a mixed bag of success, with the ones up in Seattle having some difficulty getting the performance they expected from the buses. Here in Portland we have a small batch of XE40's coming in - curious to see how they perform compared to the rest. BYD at this point seems like a joke, with the number of issues they are having producing buses for Long Beach and Albuquerque...seems like TheBus has done the right thing by entering the market as the technology is developed versus being the pioneers. After the first electric bus debacle back in the mid-90's I'm sure they are ensuring that they get this right. http://archives.starbulletin.com/96/04/17/features/story2.html

There are some roads here on the island that have some incline to them. If I can get a ride on the BE40, I would like to see how it performs on the H-2 Freeway, the Pali Highway, or the Likelike Highway. I would also like to see an XE40 on a test drive and make comparisons between the two in terms of ride and build quality. How much punishment can both of those take on Honolulu's condition-varied roads after a few weeks have past? It going to be interesting to find out.
