Rumour has it Jane Express will be starting soon, numbered 720

Can confirm the existence of Express route 720 which I have attached a link plus a copy of the route map for record keeping purposes. In case the link no longer works in a few years or when 720 finishes for the season.

https://www.yrt.ca/en/schedules-and-maps/resources/Documents/sc/720.pdf

I remember when it was proposed as Viva Silver with limited stops before changing to 20E Jane. Now, it is the planned 720 Wonderland Express starting from 407 Terminal making very limited stops similar to the 760 which also provides limited stops between Vaughan Mills and Richmond Hill Centre. Local stops along Yonge between Richmond Hill Centre and Finch Go.

I think there will be a lot of uptake for those simply heading to the terminals. Freeing up capacity for the 20 Jane providing local service along the corridor.

Would extending the service to Pioneer Village help York U students?  If they were to make this a year-round route they could have it terminate at the Vaughan-Cortelucci Hospital in the north end when Wonderland isn't open.   That would replicate the VIVA Silver in coordination with the Rutherford higher order transit corridor over to Donald Cousens Pkwy.

Until YRT and TTC have free transfers there's a penalty for York U students who are forced to transfer onto the subway for a ride into campus or onto the 20 JANE and a walk from the edge of campus.  Rerouting the ZÜM bus to serve Hwy. 407 before York U would be another way around the second fare.

Is/was supposed to be a terminal for YRT on Wonderland's property?

I think it was the 20E Jane that'll be going in there. It was the diagram which made it look like it would.

The name if the terminal would be known, unless I'm wrong, was going to be Major MacKenzie-Jane West(?) Terminal, for the 2E, 4A( or just the 4), 720 and 760.

It was supposed to be Major Mackenzie Drive West terminal across from the hospital. Routes 4 Major Mackenzie, 20 Jane and 760 Vaughan Mills/Wonderland Express were planned to head down there. A total of 12 bus bays will be built for this terminal.

20E Jane would have terminated at Major Mackenzie Drive West terminal if it was running. Now replaced by 720 Wonderland Express.

Right now, there is no confirmation when Major Mackenzie Drive West will open for revenue service with routes looping into the new terminal.

YRT’s basically operating a version of the 720 now: a few extra Wonderland shuttle buses operate on the weekend providing express service between Wonderland (street loading on Jane) , Vaughan Mills and VMC subway. They operate express northbound (deadheading back NIS) until around 1-2pm, then after run express southbound.

The new terminal is under construction at the north end, with much of the bus loop and platforms already in, and the main terminal building being built. The road is being widened and the old Major Mac underpasses have already been rebuilt in the area. IIRC there were plans to extend the 165 Weston west to terminate there as well.

That is correct that the 165 Weston would be extended from Major Mackenzie/Highway 400 Park and Ride to Major Mackenzie West Station. This is from the 2023 transit plan initiatives document that I have saved while it was available publicly for survey purposes.

165F would be eliminated and replaced with the 21 Vellore Local which would operate during peak periods.

The 300 series buses are in the process of being mass retired. Their numbers have been removed from the exterior.

Most if not all seem to be still active and out in service on a regular basis (albeit mostly on rush hour runs).

332 hasn’t been in service since 04-22-2021 (last run on the 4) so that one is probably pooched for good.

Although, in terms of missing buses, 520 was MIA for months and months before all of the sudden entering service again…

There are new buses on order for this year. So no, they are not being retired without replacement.

Order for this year may mean replacement next year? And where will the order be distributed to?I wonder if they will also retire the relatively older LF batches(04 and 05 probably)

332 suffered a engine/transmission issue.

The 9xx's eldorados are also due for retirement...since past retirement practices shows that YRT tends to not refurbish them (except buses dedicated to community bus services)

10 of the 3xx buses have retired at this point. 15 remain in service

That explains it, there’s more than enough still floating around all the time to miss the ones parked. Some quick number crunching online shows 313, 316, 317, 321, 322, 327, 329, and 333 all last active in either March or April (that’s in addition to retired 326 and 332).

It wouldn’t surprise me if the rest get “permanently parked” after the school specials end for the summer in a week or so.

I'm curious whether the 720 would run artics, or a mix of 40s/60s?
