The new board period would have had the Cornell Terminal changes in effect which is what I was looking for.  When I was up in York last year I had tried at the Dufferin Clark Community Centre with no luck.  Unless they keep a rack of maps in the lobby, I didn't think the offices on High Tech would be open by the time I got there.

I get the printed maps were somewhat of a casualty of COVID where they were trying to limit touch points, but I still find it easier to deal with than trying to view it on my phone.  Given how large York Region is, it's nice to see the big picture!

I wonder if there'd be a few copies available at York U somewhere?

The summary of Service Changes posted inside the bus shelter (uploaded rotated again?!?) seems like a poor compromise to the onboard flyers YRT used to distribute, again likely another COVID or even a cost-saving measure.  I don't know how much of the riding population still doesn't have convenient access to the internet, but forcing people to check doesn't seem like the most equitable solution.

Hello I have a Fall 2022 map if you are interested. You are just going to have to figure out how to get it off of me.

There is no new info currently. January 2023 is when they report on the official status regarding Blue A, Green and Pink if they will be brought back in some capacity or cancelled. Since they haven't operated in 2.5 years and instead reallocated resources to existing routes where possible.

If they bring back Viva Green, it will be likely to be the restructured version via Leslie and not the current routing.

YRT Said those routes are "suspended until further notice"

It would be a duplication, but you have to remember that Green would only service limited stops where as 90 Leslie would service local stops. Similar to Yonge Street where the frequency of Blue is a lot higher where as the 98 and 99 Yonge or 98/99 Yonge during late evenings would operate on a lower frequency.

Hoping that the passenger volume would shift to the rapid transit route over the conventional route.

Not likely seeing that the BRT buses never adhere to the schedule and local buses can be faster.

It depends on the situation. In most cases, local buses are faster in lighter traffic. But in other cases, the BRT is faster.

In any case I don't think it can be considered to be "rapid" transit when a bicycle is faster.

You got to put it this way, a bicycle has the ability to go around traffic, on the sidewalk, on local streets. Buses however, unless the roads closed or a detour is necessitated has to sit in mixed traffic.

BRT has dedicated lanes. I think the issue is the lack of transit signal prioritization along the BRT route. Dedicated bus lanes are useless if they have to stop at red lights.

I don't understand the point of another new terminal. Also Pre pandemic service should have been brought back right now since go bus workers may go on strike then local services may be very crowded.

Yet it sucks there's no mention of reinstating any of the cancelled routes even in light of a upcoming GO Transit strike.

Like many other agencies in the GTA, does YRT have the manpower to reinstate any additional service in the event of a GO Transit strike?  I think that if the strike does happen many agencies will be canibalizing drivers from other routes to run supplementary service or switch to artics if they're available.  I don't know how feasible it is for most agencies to add supplemental service on the fly like that for an extended period of time.

They should consider adding artics to the 4 Major Mackenzie. One trip on Saturday (Bus #518) was so delayed on the 4A (Pine Valley - Woodbine) that it was running basically an hour behind.

Sunday 90 service doesn't really need artics (maybe one just in case) but the trip was basically empty.

Yet it sucks there's no mention of reinstating any of the cancelled routes even in light of a upcoming GO Transit strike.

Major Mackenzie is on the list for potential routes for articulated buses along with rapid transit. At the same time, they seem really stretched thin on resources focusing on the status quo unless told by the region to reduce costs. Considering plans for certain corridors are already completed. Just a lack of funding for conversion and day to day operations is the barrier.

I don't think YRT has any additional resources in the event of a Go Transit strike. Considering that Blue and Purple/Purple A do operate with articulated buses every day including holidays. Orange can operate with articulated buses if required and the last time it was done is during the first few months of COVID-19 to ensure physical distancing due to seating restrictions.

It all depends on their spare board.

Ex. Viva AG300 for sale (#8203) is listed for sale on FB Marketplace. Looks to be in rough shape, but is described as running and driving. The bus has been posted on FBM for 19 weeks as of this post.

It is 8203 which was involved in an accident on Purple back in late 2020 and retired early.

To replace the glass alone is probably a few thousand dollars plus labour. The body work isn't that bad but the door needs to be replaced. The articulated joint will likely need to be overhauled.  It's cheaper than buying a new one....

I was checking out the schedules for SE division’s trips on Transsee for this board period. I find it a bit odd, but a lot of the runs for routes that end at Cornell and also routes that end at Finch switch routes partway through the block. For example, 1113 began today on the first EB trip for route 2, switched to route 16, then back to route 2 later in the evening. A lot of the schedule blocks are similar and on weekends routes 1/2/16 trade buses partway through, and the same for weekdays between routes 1/14/16/25.

Also maybe it’s coincidental, but I also noticed a lot of the longer runs end up having the long break that was seen in board periods prior to September, usually between the route switch. Maybe it’s a more effective way to give the drivers a break rather than sending out a new bus/driver to do one trip?

School Trippers

In the event the current CUPE strike happens on Monday, all 4xx's routes are not running. The paddles that started or interlined with those routes would just run their regular routes. For example the bus that does the 450/99/98E would just effectively run the 99 and 98E (omitting the 450).

Do believe it was hit by a truck.

At least some if not most school specials did run today, albeit empty and some possibly signed Not in Service.
