Joshuamumble
YRT service changes have been released on the website and these will be effective June 28: Increased service on Viva Blue and Orange, along with other mainline routes in Vaughan; however, service will still be on a modified Saturday schedule for other parts of the region Route 21 changed to Mobility on Request at all times Off peak service on routes 32 and 44 changed to Mobility on Request On July 2, all YRT/Viva services will have one way boarding/exiting (board at front, exit at rear); customers that have to use the ramp may continue using the front door to exit; while those who require the ramp will continue to have access to the centre doors (on Van Hools) and front doors (other buses) Link: https://www.yrt.ca/en/news/service-changes-begin-june-28-and-front-door-boarding-begins-july-2.aspx On 5/17/2020 at 5:20 PM, TheYRTGuy said: Viva Orange is (for the last week, at least) fully artic. Viva Purple is also fully articulated buses 7 days a week; reason is that they have more room to accommodate social distancing so they're temporarily replacing the 51xx

GTAmissions1
Electric buses will be coming into revenue service starting June 29th on either Route 44 Bristol and 55 Davis Drive in the City of Newmarket. Two regular 40 ft buses will be in-service and a total of six have been ordered. Between New Flyer and Nova. With more units to come online in July. To determine how electric buses work in a real world environment along with the other factors. https://www.yrt.ca/en/about-us/electric-bus.aspx

Tom1122
Now that people are boarding from the front doors, is it the same with VIVA buses or do they still all door?

VIVA has always been all door as you pay on the platform before boarding. There's nowhere on board to pay anyway.

Articulated
Reminder that there is a YRT/Viva New Vehicle Deliveries thread, where spottings of new vehicles being delivered/entering service should be placed, rather than the generic YRT thread. Makes it easier to track down info at a later date when everything is in the same place.
newflyerinvero
I'm wondering why the decision was made of the other XE40s being in the regular YRT local scheme and not having the special 'electric bus' scheme of that of 1911? Presently I've only seen a photo of 1913 in the regular scheme.

COVID-19 concerns could have also played a part, by not allowing off-site employees into the garage to perform non-essential work.

From what I was told, 1914 is in unwrapped and 1921 is on the property. I didn't see it when I passed the garage though so it might be inside. GTAmissions1
York Region Transit/Viva have posted their service changes effective September 6th. Link here: https://www.yrt.ca/en/schedules-and-maps/service-changes.aspx Key takeaways: Weekends/holidays: Viva Blue will start at Finch Go Station for the first departure instead of Yonge/16th Avenue northbound to Newmarket. Handy for those that need to head north on Sunday having an earlier departure time at 6:13 AM and for a reasonable cost. All Go Transit shuttle routes (200 series) are discontinued due to low ridership. All Express (300 series) and school routes (400 series) reinstated as of September 8th (Tuesday). Blue A, Pink and Green continue to be suspended due to the pandemic. Edited August 18, 2020 by GTAmissions1 oversight error and added series numbers for easier clarification

All Go Transit shuttle routes (200 series) are discontinued due to low ridership. All business and school routes reinstated as of September 8th (Tuesday). Blue A, Pink and Green continue to be suspended due to low demand. Bit more than just those... Most major routes will be resuming their regular (pre-pandemic) schedules. Viva will still operate on reduced frequencies for most lines. This includes the resumption of service on routes 81, 82, 165F, all Express routes (301, 302, 304), all High School Specials, and weekend service on route 760. Routes 10, 22, 31, 42, 45, 51, 58, 84 remain suspended; On-Demand continues to replace most of those routes. A couple of routes will see service increases above and beyond pre-pandemic levels: Route 2 will go to 18-25 minute headways during rush hours, returning to a frequency that was last seen a couple of years ago. Routes 1 and 8 will see a 3rd midday bus added (both had 2 midday buses in pre-pandemic schedules). Route 9 will have a third bus added during rush hours, and a second bus during midday for the first time ever. There will be service reductions to some of the non-mainline routes during off-peak periods, due to low ridership: Routes 12, 23, 40, 41, 52, 56 will be reduced to rush hours only. Route 26 will have weekend service cut, but retain weekday midday service. Routes 3, 7 will have their weekend service reduced. My jaw dropped when I saw the service improvements on route 9, not going to lie lol As an aside, do you think those GO shuttle routes will be brought back in the future? I don't think it is very likely considering that they are more focused on ride on-demand service (Mobility On-Request) to service what demand is still out there versus the conventional fixed route system. Trying to deliver a similar service at a lower cost per passenger or utilizing smaller vehicles. Some areas with MOR (Mobility On-Request) can book through a mobile app and get info updates in real-time. Other areas, you have to call with at least an hour of notice. Which can be a bit challenging if the train is delayed or not knowing if the vehicle is coming earlier or later.

Articulated
1 hour ago, tommike said: Do any one know why they retried ag300 and not the a330 yet? The AG300 articulated buses have seen a lot more mileage on them than their 40' A330 cousins. Going by pre-COVID schedules, the A330 fleet are used on Pink, Orange, Green, and Yellow, and Purple on weekends only; this accounts for about 26 buses during weekday rush hours out of the 40-bus fleet (and that's assuming all 9 buses on Pink are A330s and not artics). They have gotten plenty of rest in recent years as well as a second rebuild a couple of years ago. In general, articulated buses have a shorter lifespan than regular 40' buses. 12 years is about as long as you can run an artic, while regular buses can easily reach 18 with a standard midlife overhaul. Just look at MiWay, who retired most of their 2008 D60LFRs two years ago while they are still running 2003 D40LFs.
