Province signs formal agreement with York Region on Yonge North Subway Extension

According to the preliminary agreement, the province will have sole responsibility for the planning, design and construction of the extension and intends to own the line once it is complete.

So what, does that mean Metrolinx is gonna own the entirety of Line 1 after this or the portion being built in York Region? Only asking because the wording of the article confuses me a bit.

It was already determined that they will not takeover the existing subway so they'll own the extension. They'll determine exactly where the boundaries will be and which part of Finch Station will the own once the station is modified with the extension.

This would be rather interesting as to will Metrolinx own some of the TTC trains that is needed for the extension and does that mean they'll have a say in fleeting planning and procurement. This is different than the TYSSE which York Region doesn't own the line or trains. Properties are transferred to the TTC.

Also who will be doing maintenance on the Metrolinx portion of the Line? I see a potential blame game when things go wrong as we seen in Presto but 1000x worst. Like if a track damages all the trains, who's responsible? (TTC still haven't gotten a single penny for all the offline readers!)

That's about what I thought. Still dumb.

TTC's Chester Station closing for two weeks to advance accessibility upgrades

June 4, 2020

The TTC is taking advantage of lighter customer loads to advance important accessibility work at Chester Station. As a result, the station will close for approximately two weeks beginning next Tuesday, June 9, reopening on Tuesday, June 23.

Subway trains will not be stopping at Chester Station during the closure and customers are advised to use Pape or Broadview stations to access Line 2.

The two-week closure will allow the TTC to open the elevators in Fall, 2020, ahead of the original schedule. It will also mean the pedestrian walkway on the north side of the station can open earlier than planned and crews can complete concrete restoration work at the main entrance of the station.

This work is part of the TTC's Easier Access Program which is making subway stations accessible to everyone. At this time, 46 TTC subway stations are accessible with full system accessibility targeted for 2025.

"This two-week closure now will save many weeks of overall construction and allow the TTC to open the new Chester Station elevators in the early fall," said Mayor John Tory. "As an added local benefit, the TTC will also be able to accelerate concrete work to re-open a well-used walkway just north of the station. This is exactly the type of common sense action people expect us to take during the pandemic and I want to thank TTC passengers and local residents for their patience during the closure."

Something sneaked into Greenwood and did this?

What makes you think that it happened while the train was stored at Greenwood? The fact that Stuart Green talked about the fact that the train had no cameras and was taken out of service implied to me that it happened inside while the train was in service.

It's fucking vile either way, but with the lower passenger numbers its likely easily done during the day at the ends of the lines.

From what I've seen it was a middle aged white woman(Mid-Late 30's-Early 40's) who was on the train with her 2 kids, a baby in a stroller and another one under the age of 4. The older child was scribbling on the wall and window ledge on the train with a marker, then the woman takes the marker points out a black woman on board the train starts ranting at her then writes on the window ledge, ******* are "O".

It makes sense on Eglinton Ave/Kingston Road, because they are 3 lanes wide, but Morningside is only 2 lanes, how are they gonna prioritize one lane for buses only leaving one for cars? that'll be gridlock there for sure.

From someone who has been commuting by car using this section of Morningside on almost a daily basis for years, Morningside should be fine as long as a few things are incorporated. Traffic signals should continue to be synchronized to allow traffic to flow better. All the lights right now between Kingston and Ellesmere stay green for Morningside traffic unless they are triggered by a vehicle or pedestrian waiting on the cross street. Another thing they need to do is prohibit left turns (SB at Beath and Tefft, NB at Warnsworth) during certain time periods. Lastly, they need to look at ending the southbound bus only lane a but further north, as well as move the southbound at Kingston Rd stop to allow for a proper right turn lane. Back in 2017 when Morningside was one lane in each direction from Kingston Rd to Ellesmere due to road resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation work these were some the main issues that caused traffic to back up. Northbound traffic would always be fine for the most part, very minimal delays. Southbound traffic would always back up from Kingston Rd to West Hill Collegiate or sometimes onto the Morningside bridge during afternoon rush because of left turning vehicles, specifically at Beath St, and the poorly timed lights at Kingston Rd, Tefft Rd and West Hill Collegiate. Fast forward to last year when they were doing road resurfacing of the Kingston Rd and Morningside intersection, traffic backed up to Tefft Rd in PM peak due to the lack of a separate right turn lane.

Told y'all there'll be Federal funding.  Any word on how much of the $7 billion will be going to transit?  BC is getting $2B with $600M ear marked for transit.

There wasn't much doubt that it would happen. They couldn't allow for transit agencies around the country to collapse from the loss of revenue.

I thought that was a long standing PC goal ... after all, they were the ones that cancelled 100% of GO and TTC funding the last time they were elected.

I think there are a lot of people here who aren’t quite old enough to remember that era or remember it in enough detail, but that defunding public transportation was definitely one item on the list that Harris & Co. put a check mark next to.  I don’t think they cared one way or another what happened after the provincial funding was revoked, just that the government of Ontario funding got revoked.  When it wasn’t outright malice motivating the Harris government’s actions, it was callous indifference toward the results of what they did.

Mike Harris was one of the biggest crooks out there, destroying everything in sight with no regard whatsoever. The cuts were so bad that transit is still suffering from the effects of those devastating cuts more than 2 decades after his time in power.

Now he's off to biggest and better things....destroying long-term health facilities (in particular, Chartwell) while collecting his fat paycheck for doing so.
