Two quicks RTC news

- They've done the impossible, find someone interested in the old Ecolobus vehicule. Those vehicule will be shipped to France to be equiped with new batteries and a new engine (Hydro TM4). The plan is to return them in service in France in 2016 http://www.journaldequebec.com/2015/03/04/les-ecolobus-ressusciteront-en-france

- Another busfan indicated me that RTC has resume production of system maps. The small problem, they now cost 5$ a piece !

The Nomade real-time system is implemented by route. Since feb. 28 800-801 Metrobus had joined the 802-803 Metrobus in the Nomade real-time system.

Bus equipped with the system will be found on other routes, but drivers don't have to logon to the system since the route is not deployed. The displays will simply show an ad promoting the new systems

They are currently about over 110 buses equipped (including all articulated buses) with the system with the intention to have all the fleet deployed by 2017.

For those interested, first day of service video

That looks pretty cool. Should be useful for people riding the 8xx between Laval and downtown who are unfamiliar with the area & can't see out the window clearly with the crowds.

What's with the flag on the second picture?

They are the new generation of RTC bus flags. Installation has started a couple years ago. The old flag are mostly replaced with new one when information need to be updated on them. For other remplacement, they are case by case,

Seen on Facebook. 1154 nova artic caught fire near Metrobus garage tonight, all the back panel of the bus is burned

edit: Very bad day at work for Nova Artic ... Gatineau also got a fire this afternoon !

A follow up on this case, RTC confirmed the bus is now retired since it would be to costly to repair

Wiki has been updated

A bit of change in the RTC fare grid starting July 1st

Two new transport titles will be offered

- 5 days pass

- Unlimited Week-end (from 6pm on Friday to the end of service sunday night)

The RTC also announces that they the FestiBus title during the summer festival is here to stay (This year Unlimited 30$ / 11 days or 10 tickets for 20$ but tickets are not valid before 10am everyday.)

Family privilege is also starting early. Instead of begining at the start of service saturday, it will start at 6pm on Fridays

With those new fares, some are saying goodbye. They will be no more 2 and 7 days passes, also gone are ÉtéBus (18- could get July / August pass for 1 month price) and the Diploma discount.

As Always, they are fare rise.

Cash stays at 3.25$ (2$ on route 21 "Ecolobus" without transfer privilege)

Standard tickets will be 2.90$ each (+ 0.05), 18- and 65+ tickets are 2.00$ (+ 0.05)

Daypass will go up 50 cents at 8$

Monthly pass go up 2.75 $ to 84$

Even RTC has A/C now!

STM, RTL and STL must be the last in the world not ordering buses with AC

Yup, by the end of summer, less then 1% of the RTC fleet will have A/C (5 buses over 600 !)

By the end of the year, that will be only 5% !

And if they stick to their buying plans (which never happens), about 15% of the fleet will have A/C in three years

I'm ready to endure many others HOT ride on the RTC
