Update on the pressure tactics: After removing their run number from the front of the bus, most drivers don't logon into the Nomade real time system so no real time information is available to customers.

With all the executives taking the bus to work, this tactic will end the conflict ASAP.

Strike watch Breaking news: The union has given advance notice to the RTC that they intend to begin unlimited strike on Monday March 13th at 4am

First with the STO, and now this?? How much are they going to reduce service and when would this end? Did anyone rule the RTC not an essential service like the STO did? To me it is definitely an essential service and for those without a car the RTC is pretty much the only option. Whatever happens I hope this dispute can be resolved soon.

RTC is under provincial regulation, so there will be essential service (probably morniing / evening peak service only monday to friday)

In Strike watch update, Labeaume mayor hints that may be this futur conflict may be called from the top of the pyramid (read here CSN headquarters)

Even with the Conseil des services essentiels decision, I remember during the 2004 strike having to hitch-hike many times to cégep because either the sole scheduled bus simply did not stop to pick me up because it was crammed full or it never showed up at all. I used the college plotter to make signs with some of my usual destinations, it worked pretty well. :P

It took a couple of days before the full morning schedule was reintroduced. I remember that at the beginning, most express and PVA lines were cancelled, to the profit of local and metrobus lines. Overall, it did not went as badly as in Montréal in 2003 and 2007.

Strike watch update: News is that the main point of divergence is about the split shift max daily time. Currently, drivers work 7 and a half hours in a maximum of 12 hours amplitude (11 hours for those working night shifts). RTC want's to raise that limit (how much no body know) but the union don't agree (and they are right IMO)

After collecting the dust at the Metrobus center since January 2015, RTC has given three ecolobus to a local mechanic school so mechanics of tommorow will have a chance to train on electric technology.

The other 5 are gonna be recycled since no body want them's (obvious !)

Wasn't there an European country that wanted to buy them or did that deal fell through?

Don't be surprised if they want to raise it to 12.5 or 12.75 hrs (the latter is the maximum here at RTL). No wonder drivers snooze behind the wheel on break when they have to sacrifice their day for the company!

Strike watch update: This is the "essential" services that will be offer is the drivers go on strike Monday Morning at 4am

On weekdays, service will be offered on all routes except the 100 series  from 6:15 am to 9:15am (based on the last stop of the line) and from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, NO other service during the day EXCEPT for school routes during midday

On week-ends, service will be offered on the same time table (6:15 to 9:15 am - 3:00 to 6:00 pm) but only on these selected routes 1, 3, 4, 11, 13, 16, 21, 25, 31, 32, 36, 37, 64, 74, 75, 84, 800, 801, 802, 804, 807

Also note that this stike DOES NOT affect para transit services

Comments

At least they will operated a near normal service during rush hour and should be able to serve a good part of their customers.

But the week-end service is weird, most routes are OK to be on the list but they are low ridership routes like the 31,32,37 that could be replace with better routes, route 4 is close to Metrobus 800 so it could be drop, route 3 is also close to the 801. They are no Metrobus 803 service for those working at Galeries de la Capitale would only be able to relay on the 75 and 64 to go somewhere. Also this left many parts of the city with no essentials service like Ancienne-Lorette, north of Beauport, Boischatel, Cap-Rouge, Champigny, Saint-Augustin.

edit: The RTC says that buses that will offer week-end limited services needed to pass near an hospital or a CLSC to be considered in the service.

Snowstorm has caused some issues in the Quebec City region

- RTC has cancelled all services late last night due to blizzard conditions
- STLevis has cancelled service Wednesday morning only returning to the road after 10am
- Due to a major power outage at des Rocailles garage, many depatures were cancelled in advance this afternoon

Strike watch FINAL update : The driver have voted 85 + % in favour of the new work contract that extends until 2021.

Drivers will keep their 12 hours amplitude and got retirement regime bonus. In exchange, RTC got the right to add more driver relieve point to the network.

Typical! The old timers voted for their pensions whereas junior drivers get screwed over with crappy relief points for their work. Senior drivers almost always choose garage garage.

RTC has unveiled their service change plan for 2017. Here are the highlights

- The biggest change this year is the reorganization of service in the south of Beauport. Route 51 make a return in the RTC numbering scheme, this new route will travel from Terminus Beauport, then Mr. Gauthier, then up des Chutes hill, then serving the Villeneuve area (former route 53 area), a transfer at Cimenterie terminal then down a fast growing area in the former cement plan area to a terminal at the futur Ste-Anne park-n-ride. Route 53 will change, from terminus Beauport, it will travel on Ste-Anne all the way to Montmorency, then up St-Grégoire hill to des Français / de l'obiou, transfer at Cimenterie terminal, then back down on des Chutes to it's terminus at Montmorency waterfalls. There is also a new 253 eXpress bus route serving the cement plant area.

This will bring much needed improvement in this area, with frequency no more then 60 minutes (was 90 minutes off peak on the 53) on both route. Patrons in Montmorency will also get a more reliable service in winter since in storms, bus cannot access sometime St-Grégoire hill.

- Route 11 and 21 would merge to create a major east-west route. From the ferry, the bus will serve the old Quebec then Grande-Allée / Laurier all the way to Ste-Foy shopping area then to Pointe-Ste-Foy. What more surprising is the bus would convert to midibus operations in 2018 knowing that the 11 route is a 40 footer needed route. Making up for the reduced capacity, service would been increased on the 11. I'm not in favor of this merger as the 21 is a route often jam in traffic and frequently in detour, it could affect the punctuality of the whole line, they should keep those two routes separate. Route 1A and 111 would be abolished

- Route 3 and 37 merger once again in the books, with some slights modifications from last year proposal (no more Old Quebec in rush hour, route change in St-Odile)

Two quick RTC news

- New students at Garneau CÉGEP will get one month of free transit, a 300 000$ pilot project over 3 years

- Maguire street business owner are not happy with the proposed change to route 11 since they would remove local service near their business.

So let's say transit projects in the Quebec City area comes to a grinding halt this week. Tuesay Lévis mayor says it's city didn't not want anymore of the Bus Rapid Transit project. So with no partner to dance, the mayor of Quebec City has also scrapped today the BRT.

Québec City has always had a superficial interest in transit, forget about a tramway if BRT cannot even be justified. Meanwhile, what seems more interesting is new road construction (third link over the river) or expressway widening (A-73). Sad!

The city itself (planners, land development, etc.) has some interest. However, some radio stations are very well aware that 2017 is an electoral year : they put up a large trans-media campaign (most probably backed by their sponsors : car dealers, garages, transportation companies, etc.) to stop the project, and all of a sudden, the politicians lost all interest. Poof. Like magic.
