Based on sightings, 5717 at this time, is assumed to have retired and been shipped off to the U.S. (to an unknown company at this time) for re-engineering. Badaraco RETIRED NOTES: D. DeLarge reported that an H4 set was coupled <5627/5626+5625/5624+5622/5623> on May 15th 2011. Nearly a perfect set. So a tender has been released for the sale of 37 H4's, as seen here:http://www2.ttc.ca/d...P06BT11047.html Interesting points: They have asbestos in the flooring, and they will removed through Davisville yard. There is a rumour that an H4 set will be used in the filming of Total Recall - wonder if some sort of 'special clean' has been requested. I notice passing Greenwood on the CN tracks, there is an H4 pair parked by the fence (where the tagged G work cars were). Sorry can't recall the numbers. Will try to get them tomorrow. As Mike mentioned, age and mechanical failures are the main reason. The H4's will be gone in 2009+ after the new subway cars (Toronto Subway, or T2 and please don't start this debate again...) arrive on YUS and displace most of the T1's onto BD. The H5s on YUS will be retired as well. The H4s are like the New Looks... they are too old, and are being retired whenever they become too unsafe to operate (mainly due to mechanical breakdown). I saw 2 H4 train sets yesterday and been on one of the 2. So i don't know if that was consider lucky. Cause i was only on a 3 station trip. Also YUS are losing the T1s. As someone stated that already. So the new trains that are comming are going to be in the wilson/davisville yard. So this might be the last time i go on a H4 cause i normally don't go on trains. I would think it would be too small of a batch to do by themselves, but to tack on to an existing order shouldnt have been a problem. When the new ones arrive will all H series be retired? I would think it would be too small of a batch to do by themselves, but to tack on to an existing order shouldnt have been a problem. When the new ones arrive will all H series be retired? Including H6's? Nope. Probably not. They have to focus on the H5 first. But honestly i like the H5 rather than the H6 only cause of the doors. The H6 door moves violently. Bus_Medic Posted November 15, 2007 Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 Wilson will still have T1's after the H5's are gone, they just will have lower number of sets after the new order arrives they'll need them for the sheppard line, as the new articulated 'open concept' trains can't be shortened easily. although I've heard the protocol for sheppard trains is to store them at davisville. unless... they plan on finishing the stations the full 6 car length, which is highly unlikely. T15111 Posted November 15, 2007 Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 Yesterday I was on a train leaving wilson stn and i saw a h4 on a trailer being taken away. When i saw it the truck was turning out of wilson yard onto wilson street going west. Then when i got to st george i get 5140 on bd line the train was led car east 5140-41 5130-31 50xx 50xx but i saw both 5136-37 38-39 on YUS yesterday too. The main reason every1 has been seeing YUS trains on bd line because they dont have the drivers 2 weeks ago on a sunday they didnt make service because they didnt have the drivers 4 trains didnt go out because there was no drivers. Articulated Posted November 15, 2007 Report Share Posted November 15, 2007 To clear things up: -The new car order will not be enough to take over all runs on YUS (let alone the 5 trains for Sheppard), so there will be a mix of Toronto Subway and T1 cars for YUS until a new order is made. -Most of the new cars are going to replace the H5s, and the remaining T1s displaced from YUS will head over to Greenwood for service on BD (and to replace the H4s). -H6 will NOT be retiring, the order is too small to replace the H4, H5 and H6 category (plus, they're less than 20 years old) -Sheppard will NOT be expanded to 6-car trains anytime soon, I doubt the TTC will expand a line that they recommended closing. The new order is moving to 'cab-side signals' (not sure if that's the right name) and only the YUS line is converted (or being converted), so the new trains won't be running on Sheppard.
