North American International Ferries

Recommended Posts

This past Saturday I took the ferry from Cape Vincent, NY to Hornes Point, Ontario (located on Wolfe Island).

This had me thinking. How many ferries out there operate between Canada and the US.

I doubt the ferry I rode is the only one, but I'm sure it is the smallest, capactiy is 7 cars.

Will post a photo later.

I just looked it up and it's not being continued. It says right at the top of the 2nd link. Would have been nice to see her in Windsor again, it's a pretty big ship like the Chi-Cheemaun.

It went from Toronto, to Windsor and Chicago in 11 days. Just a cruise.

Washington State Ferry operates service between Sidney (north of Victoria) and Bellingham (midway between Vancouver and Seattle).

The Alaska State has ferries between Bellingham and Alaska, and has a stopover in Prince Rupert.

A private ferry company runs between Port Angeles, on the north side of the Olympic peninsula, and Victoria. It caters mostly to tourists, and every January is out of service.

MV Columbus was/is a luxury cruise ship marketed to wealthy German tourists.

It used to stop in Parry Sound 2 - 3 times a year where the locals would fleece the tourists with "Real Canadian Souviniers" made in China??

I believe that it is considerably larger than the ferry Chi Cheeman.

You can see pictures of it on, http://www.boatnerd.com/

Pelee Islander runs between Kingsville/Leamington and West Dock (Pelee Island) to Sandusky, Ohio on western Lake Erie in southwestern Ontario. Daldean operates between Sombra, Ontario and Marine City, Michigan on the St. Clair River. Walpole Islander and City of Algonac operate between Walpole Island, Ontario and Algonac, Michigan on the lower St. Clair River as well.
