CRICHTON AT BEECHWOOD CLOSURE - EFFECTIVE: THIS WEEKEND

From 7 am on Saturday, October 15 until 7 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2016, route 9 will be detoured due to the closure of Crichton at Beechwood. '9 RUN RUN' - EFFECTIVE: THIS SATURDAY

From approximatley 8:45 am until 1 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016, routes 96 and 162 will be detoured due to  the 9 Run Run event taking place in Stittsville. Route 96 will serve to/from the Community Centre, Shea Rd,  Abbott St, and then Stittsville Main. Route 162 Stittsville will serve Ballyboy, Bert G. Ague and Westridge.

Interesting to see the 9 detour route as the obvious route via Mackay is very tight for a bus with construction there, is it going to run via Springfield and access Vaughan from there? I have to use the 9 early Saturday morning so I guess il find out then.

The link to access the map on the OC website is broken and can't be accessed.

I just realized myself there was a road missing from the detour route. My guess is due to the construction on Mackay, buses will travel via Springfield between Beechwood and Vaughan.

This is the second time since Rideau Street abruptly closed that the 1, 7 and 9 are being detoured from the detour, in the case of the 9 it is going back to its old routing via Dalhousie for the weekend.

Is it any wonder passengers are confused about the arrangements with services to the East End of the city and OC is being flooded with complaints?

Looks like there might be some changes to the Rideau Street detour for Routes 9 and 12 on Monday.

I expect both will be returning to Bank and Slater via Mackenzie King, Mathieu Flurey has been inundated with complaints about the cut back in both routes, he has told me himself that he has received many complaints, both by social media and direct to his office.

Routes 1, 7 and 9 will be on detour this weekend as westbound Daly will be blocked for construction. They will stop westbound on the Mackenzie King Bridge. The shorter trips on the 1 and 7 unless I'm wrong will start at Mackenzie King westbound. Eastbound nothing will change on the 1 and 7 as well as Route 12

There has been detours on the detoured Rideau Street routes virtually every weekend since Rideau was closed, last week the 14 was on detour, The week before the 1, 7 and 9 were detoured again, a completely farcical situation which does nothing to inspire customer confidence in the service, especially for occasional travellers who are completely unsure where and when they actually can catch the bus, particularly as there are very few, if any, staff to provide assistance to confused passengers.

In the age of smartphones and internet, people should be capable of knowing about detours without needing staff to tell them personally.

Utter nonsense, many elderly people do not have smartphones, many visitors to the city are unfamiliar with the network, not everyone has access to the internet or has a smartphone. Have you actually looked at the timetables on the OC website for the detoured routes, many of them don't even follow the timing points on the detours themselves, and many of the detouured stops are not connected to GPS.

A very large majority do. 76% of Canadians have a smartphone (as of 2016) and 91% of Canadians have internet access (as of 2013--probably even higher now).

Why on Earth would/should OC Transpo waste time updating schedules in stops for bus routes that are going to be detoured for little over a month anyways? Look at how long it takes to update the damn things in bus stops after a regular permanent service change; to do that for every not-so-permanent detour would be "utter nonsense" as it was put here, not to mention potentially resulting in a LOT more confusion than what is presently in place.

Time-based schedules are worthless in this city anyways, with the hellacious traffic and bus fleet shortage. OC should be looking into moving to a headway-based schedule, like the Trillium Line sort-of has (although OC tossed all the benefits of it right out the window by posting a "placeholder schedule" on their website)
