Guest DRT 8173
I fiodn it very odd considering that the Pulse Sunday service is every half hour. Surely more then enough Pulse buses to be used. Or, is the service at every 10 minutes and they need other buses rather then just the Pulse XD40s? This was a saturday afternoon at harwood and hwy 2 going westbound, the service is every 15 at that time. They shouldnt be out of buses then unless they were doing adjustments to certain groups of the XD40s at a time I was at Mary & Bond in Oshawa, headed for work at around 6:50am when I saw 8421, 8531 and a pulse bus (forgot the number) - unusual number of buses for a Sunday start. Asked the bus drivers.. all they said was "it's for the Pan Am games". 8421 had left when I got to the stop.. I got on 8531 as it was leaving before the pulse bus
FutureHeartsJunkie
When I was coming home from my work placement at a hotel in downtown Oshawa today, I boarded the 900 Pulse as usual - and the bus that I boarded was an NFI Xcelsior. If I had remembered, the fleet number was 8506 (or something like that). The seats were rock solid during my long ride from Oshawa to Ajax, but that didn't make a difference on my commute. Many passengers who were waiting to board the Pulse - were confused about the bus they rode on (despite having the 900 route being displayed on the outside of the buses). 2822
Has anyone seen any Orion's in service at all during Pan am? Also is the first gen nova's going to retire this year with the arrival of the new Novabus LFS?
newflyerinvero
First, I think those extra Pulse runs done by conventional buses for Pan Am would've been more used (if they are more used?), if they were advertised as being extra runs, even on weekends.Well, I think, if I remember correctly, the plan was to have 6 conventional buses this year but I don't think they were replacement. If they were, the ex-Philly Novas from 8173-8180 would be retired. But since the VIs in Westney seemingly retired already from the arrival of the 2014 XD40s (with some VIs coming out of retirement as backups for Pan Am). So, if they are all replacements, the ex-Philly Novas would've been retired already perhaps the Phillys would only stay until after Pan Am. Or, would there not be any retirements given that there are new runs (910X, 915X, 916X, 310, 401X/C) in September and more buses are to be needed?
Guest DRT 8173
spotted 8552 at the OBX/ General motors centre (Oshawa) doing the Pan Am shuttle along with 8160 (i think)
110B West Pickering
Although 8551-8556 are supposed to be split between Westney and Ralleigh divisions it has become apearent to me that most busses including sightings of 8551-8554 and 8556 have all been seen on Route 915 for the majority of revenue service. Here are my theroys : 1. Most 915 Weekday trips are operated between Westney and Ralleigh with majority of busses out of Oshawa being Ralleigh. 2. 2015 Novas are for Westney division only. 3. Like pulse, busses may be more open to move between divisions when it is deemed nessessary. The third one goes along with what a supervisor had been telling me. e was saying that any bus soon may be able to be seen anywhere in the region. This will open up more possibilities for Oshawa to help out in Ajax or Pickering if needed. (None of this applies to Whitby) On other news Ext. Anouncments have returned! 110B West Pickering
http://granvilleanderson.onmpp.ca/News/10133?l=EN 27 Busses for durham within 2015 and 2016. 6 of which will be Nova LFSA's. Somehow I don't believe this but Ralleigh is already being renovated to support 60 footers.
Shaun
Did DR ever have am Orion VI with roof mounted AC units? I saw it in the scrap yard and wondered what that was about.
2044
You saw it yourself. What do you think?
Shaun
I was on the train and only had a glance. I didn't get a good look at it.
Bayridgepatriot
While you guys were arguing about the AC unit on a retired Orion. Durham transit just released on their website the September 8th service changes including the new routes: 310 910C 101A Here is the link:https://www.durhamregiontransit.com/Maps/Pages/July-2015-Service-Adjustments.aspx
Shaun
I thought maybe it was used as a community bus or library bus? Since it had the boxy type AC units you would see in an RV.

Shaun
Thank you for pointing it out. Was this a test or trial of some kind? Did they not come with AC Standard?
Guest DRT 8173
So I heard from a bus driver today that Route 916 will be run out of Westney (Ajax-Pickering) division instead of the current Raleigh (Oshawa) run.

Thats correct. Whitby units I don't know if they did. No A/C, sliding windows for 8321/8322(9821/9822)
2044
Due to fleet constraints, the Oshawa-based 1999 Novas will be coming back in autumn.

I personally always love a bit of pre-DRT pictures. Due to fleet constraints, the Oshawa-based 1999 Novas will be coming back in autumn. Really? A week ago it looked like they were done for good, no presto readers, fare boxes or desto signs.

newflyerinvero
Due to fleet constraints, the Oshawa-based 1999 Novas will be coming back in autumn. Well, even in the summer months, I had seen and even rode a couple of those ex-Philly Novas in Oshawa during the summer. I don't think there was even mention (unless I didn't see a post before the summer) that stated those Novas would be sitting for the summer months. It looks to me that the express branches for 910, 915, 16 and 401X) wouldn't be brought into service next month. I recall a time where the express branches were to be considered. Either I had misread the report or post about them, but perhaps these new services would be for next year perhaps.
Chris W
I take it the best place to find these ex Philly Novas is downtown Oshawa?
J. Bullock
I take it the best place to find these ex Philly Novas is downtown Oshawa? Harmony Terminal or Oshawa GO are your best bet. Rarely have I seen any Philly novas on the Simcoe Corridor, since the new Novas have arrived. They tend to come out on the 405 or 922. Both go to the terminals aformentioned.
