Didnt they not get more funding from the province, like everyone else?

I'd assume so although I haven't seen a breakdown. I'd certainly hope that they use the money on service, but I'm not at all convinced that they wouldn't just use it to reduce property taxes spent on transit.

RIP the D40's 1988-January 2008 <_<

They have met their fate.

On a happier note all other oldies are still active surprisingly 8123 was out today doing a relief 915 Westbound run signed up as "SPECIAL"

Also surprisingly today classics 8127 and another unknown one were doing the 916

8099 was out today out of service at the bus terminal around 11 AM

8437 and 8434 have yet to enter service, today was 8435's first day in service

8410 is wrapped for Johnny B's Nightclub. Looks pretty good at first I could not tell it was a DRT bus.

8138 was out on the 916 this afternoon (second time seeing an V on the 916; saw 8144 back in December)

8144 was on 916 on Thursday. And I was told by a driver that has been working for Oshawa Transit/DRT for a long time and she said that more and more of the older buses will be working 916 and the LF buses will be more common on 7 Ritson expect to see the newer buses on the 7

YRT has the same type of D40s (powertrain) and there are some still around I think. I rode them once and they were damn loud with an annoying whining noise.

The YRT D40s are 1989 model year.

DRT's D40's are 1988 model year.

Expect the YRT D40's to be around for at least another year.

Durham Region and the federal government have finalized money for a long term transit study for Durham. This money was first announced last year, but now they're ready to start and it appears that the study will go a bit beyond just the highway 2 BRT and will look at a network, as well as transportation demand management and land use.

Of course, this duplicates in part the work being done as part of Metrolinx's RTP - but hopefully they will go down to a finer level and look at the supporting local grid. Of course, this does nothing to address the current sad state of things in Durham...

I know, but the point is that they have the same powertrain for those who want to hear what the DRT D40s sound like.

I saw a D40LF on the 20 (Durham College/UOIT) tonight. Don't think that's too common.

That is not common but it is rare either you have maybe a 65% chance of a D40LF and Nova

since the D40LF's hve arrived the Classics 8118-8120 and 8098-99 were supposed to be retired right. Well 8120 was my bus today and a couple of my friends say they have seen 8098 around. So what is the deal are they supposed to be retired??

Aren't 8098/99 Classics from Clarington? They're coming all the way to Oshawa sometimes? Hmm...

They were primarily used for Clarington services, but with the regional merger and the acquisition of newer equipment, this allowed DRT East to use newer equipment for the Clarington services while keeping the two former Clarington classics for rush hour/shuttle services. Even when Clarington Transit was operating, Oshawa Transit maintained the buses and operated the service for Clarington (much like how Oakville Transit currently operates in Milton).

I don't think they are ever in Clarington anymore

They are staying till the spring now apparantly...

I had a feeling, it must be the same story with the Orion I's and the Glider out West.

I have been told a fare increase of 10 cents is waiting to be approved by council. It goes from bad to worse to disaster!

2008 so far for DRT: SERVICE CUTS + NO SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS + FARE INCREASE = 100% NOT RIGHT!!!

Do we know that for sure there that there will be no service improvements? As per usual, the Region hasn't posted any of the budget reports on their web site, so it's difficult to find out what they're up to. I've been thinking about contacting the Clerk for copies of the reports.

UPDATE: I've sent an email to the Clerk's office for the reports; we'll see where that gets me. If I get copies of the reports, I'll post details here as well as on my blog.

I do know that they have a 10% increase on the property tax portion of transit funding, covering about $3 million.

UPDATE: I've got copies of the reports now; they're pretty massive in detail, so I'll have to digest them and write a blog entry on them, and then summarize it here. For now:

1) Fare increases on July 1 (10 cents for adult/senior, 15 cents for students, 10 cents for children, no change in co fare)

2) No service increases this year. March cuts are changes to 915/916 (but rush hour service on 915 goes from 20 minute to 15 minute), various Oshawa routes, 501/502 in Clarington no late evening service, Audley North and Puckrin combined during peak hours. July changes are restricted to summertime drop in 1 Simcoe frequency to half hour. (I'll post these in detail, but I can't grab the text from the PDF and don't have time to retype it all right now).

3) Bus orders are for 14 D40LFs (under the MTO consortium), 1 flag bus (probably another El Dorado), 2 specialized bus. Note that this is a reduction from what had been talked about in the fall, probably because there is no point in buying expansion buses when no service expansion is happening. 2 Buses are designated for expansion (to be used for 915 Taunton, although that increase actually starts in March), while the rest are replacements. There will also be 7 refurbishments.

The D40LFs should be here by September, as they talk about doing their retirements when school is out and ridership is down.

4) Significant service is expansion is planned starting in 2009, including Audley North, Salem Road (new route), Bayly street to Toronto, various grid improvements in Oshawa/Clarington. Similar improvements in future years, averaging about 34,000 additional revenue hours per year, or about a 10% budget increase per year each year.

A small note on the capital front - they are showing $100K in 2008 as a one time investment in electronic destination signs. Presumably we are going to see all remaining roll signs removed.

Again, I'll write all of this up and post details later when I can.

8026 is the only D40 left is service.

Funny, whoever overwrote the roster on the DRT wikipedia article with an entirely new and differently formatted one seems to think that 8028 is the only D40 left...

It was probably time for the format change, but is the information accurate?

8027 is long gone so that rules that one out.

8028 and 29 are photo'd against the fence in this thread.

8026 has not been reported as retired?

all i know is one is left and i think it may be 8026. anyone know?

I am sure 8026 is retired if you look in my photo the GFI is removed, when I took the photo's only 8029 still had a GFI.

DRT was released the new schedules for March. A driver and myself have found 6 mistakes in the west version alone. Do they not proofread this stuff? give it to me and I will do it for free.

8099 is back in service because of fleet shortage.

do you know what happed with 8023? most likely corrosion, and 8125 another blown engine?

8120 is still in service I rode it yesterday on the 19/20.

Yeah, structural corrosion on the frame of that unit, and I they probably dont want to spend alot of money to repair the bus, since its pretty old.

It's a 19 year old bus, it had many uses of years! Only one more to go for the 89, then Vaughan the oldest of Orion V.
