Was that series used because of the commonality of parts and maintenance? Or does it still get returned to a TTC garage at night?

The DRT driver was trained and qualified to operate the vehicle I presume but how does the insurance work? The TTC is self insured, what happens if the bus is damaged while on loan?

I'm surprised that they didn't lease out OG Orion VII's from Queensway but given the dead head time and potential break downs a newer bus makes more sense.

The Region would also be self insured. You'd have to get a copy of the Lease agreement between the TTC and The Region to see who is responsible for what.

Who's garage does it go back to at night?

I feel somewhat disappointed by the minimal effort they put into adapting these TTC units for DRT service. Forget the blue lights or stop announcements - I appreciate the stickers, but they should’ve programmed the destos to say something other than ”Not in Service”, at the very least. Thanks @ilovettc for the video!

Ps. Customers may want to beware… from the video, the Presto units appear to be ”TTC” active. Those especially exiting/standing by the rear door may want to be conscious of how close their wallet/purse comes to the reader. You’ll know if you hear the beep.

I was excited to see these buses. Seeing the batch parked at Westney was enough…

They are temp loaners. Not worth the time to flip all the files

The signs could (and should) have been reprogrammed. There was an attempt to do so, but failed for technical reasons.

Otherwise, yes the retrofits necessary would be too much to ask for buses that are only temporary loaners (previously noted as 30-60 days). Stuff like fully repainting/wrapping, new fareboxes, retrofitting the parking brake, swapping the Clever Devices equipment out and installing new Init signs and consoles... by the time you're done retrofitting all the buses, the lease period has already expired.

How are they getting new buses in 60 days?

Drt is largely Nova based these days, drivers and mechanics know them, that’s probably why… plus they needed reliable buses FAST
