Old TV shows/Movies with Scenes of the Metro

I was flipping through channels and I stopped on artv because I thought I saw a scene in the Metro and I was right. The Show is currently airing: 2:00pm on Artv (don't ask about the show name or such I'm really not paying attention on anything else)

It started off on the streets of Montreal then went underground to Berri-de Montigny station, it was with the old booths with blue borders and they also showed the old info booth that was in the shape of a MR-63's front.

Later the 2 main characters were in Jolicoeur metro station. It looked at lot cleaner lol They just sat there so the camera focused on them then to the metros entering. That metro entering going direction was H. Beaugrand was the Jeumont MR-63 before the rebuilds and they were all attached together. 80-040 + 80-041 + 80-042. They were very much like the MR-73's in sounds. Same scene the train after that was a regular MR-63.

This is the first time I've seen a good video of the MR-63's before the rebuild. And it was real cool to see and hear the Jeumont MR-63's.

A couple minutes later they are riding a MR-73 with the older seating style (orange on orange). Other than that the sound of the motors was slightly different.

Then the characters pass by Longueuil, Lionel-Groulx. At L-G the signs showed that the Orange line only went to Plamondon. Then later they are at Plamondon.

At one point it shows a MR-73 switching somewhere(I really can't tell), the camera angles change so you see it from the platform and from the inside of 79-768. There appeared to be a large spark that came off the tracks when it switched, it was nothing.

The are some other station that it shows that I was able to recognize: Georges-Vanier, Vendome, and Sherbrooke.

At the end of the movie it shows the metro operators finishing off the day at Plamondon after parking the metro at the platform leaving the characters sleeping inside a car. You can hear announcement made over the PA system, announcement that I haven't ever heard.

After the credits it shows a closing that was filmed recently, someone sitting at the back of Classic explaining where the actors are now after 20 years.

BTW the movie is called Sonatine made in 1984.

There you go: Sonatine. Look for it in artv's line up it should be playing again sometime. Most of the movie was filmed in the metro no buses scenes.

Anything that from the 80's with transit in it is fine with me, even the closing credits of "Welcome Back Gotter" with the fishbowl in it please me but this is amazing!

I've been looking for this movie for a long time now. I'll set my VCR to tape it. You can rent it at most french only video stores, but I've never seen any copies that you can buy.

Well, I'll look out for that movie, and I'll try and tape it Saturday night. Sounds like a great movie for transit fans.

Now, to continue along with the topic; another movie that has a few transit scenes would be, "C't'à ton tour, Laura Cadieux" (1998) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0158539/ . One funny thing to note is that they listed the following goof up in the movie:

Errors in geography: When Laura is asking the ticket taker to page her friend, she makes reference to being in Place-des-Arts station, where she got off; she is actually in Jean-Drapeau station.

I can't see at all any signs of Jean-Drapeau station in this movie, I don't know where they got their information from but it is totally inaccurate. McGill is right next to Place-des-Arts and not Jean-Drapeau, and the kid got off one station later at McGill after they had forgotten him on the metro at Place-des-Arts. There is no Jean-Drapeau in this movie. Anyways, if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I mean.

There is a lot of transit used in this movie, including a Classic and a few New Looks. (And a New Look that magically turned into a Classic when they got on the bus it was a New Look, with a CO in the front seat yelling at the driver, and when they got off, it was a Classic).

Also near the end of the movie they were getting onto a New Look, but it wasn't an STCUM bus, it was obviously rented, the bus didn't look like an STCUM New Look.

So if you want to see a movie with quite a bit of transit it in, check this one out. Stations that appear in this movie are: Beaudry (Ginette Reno getting stuck on that moving ramp), Place-des-Arts, McGill (and running through Eaton's), and Angrignon metro. They were heading to St-Joseph street, and got off the metro at Place-des-Arts. They must had had to board the 129 at PDA?

Anyways, really funny movie, lots of scenes of Montreal, including the Casino, Olympic Stadium, the restaurant "Tiki Garden", I went there just for that reason, and they told me how they filmed it in the restaurant, and how they got that huge table down from the 2nd floor where it's normally kept, and they moved all the usual tables out of the way just for the filming. Another location was a Depanneur, which looked like it was from The Point.

Check it out some time. It comes on SRC occasionally.

Another good movie where you can see a bus is Crusing Bar with Michel Cote. In one scene he gets his arm stuck in the front door and must run next to the bus. This scene was filmed on Plaza Saint-Hubert and the bus used is a New Look which I think is Verreault 318. It looks like an EX TTC newlook. You can find that part of the movie on youtube.

haha..they numbered it 34-108 with a fake route 108.. You can also see a 21-14X fishbowl with a blue front bumper in the backround at one point.

I think it was "La Florida". I remember seeing it at the movies.

Now there is one more movie that has a huge scene in the Montreal metro. Only thing is they pretend that Lionel-Groulx and Radisson are in Washington DC. Oh well.

There is a great scene with Bruce Willis running through the Montreal metro tunnels chasing after the perp, and almost getting sandwiched between two passing trains, and takes refuge at a signal post (which must have been added for the scene because we don't have any signal posts in the tunnels. (Only switch signals).

could get the DVD but I can't find it in stores.

OMG back in 2002 i remember seeing tht trailer when the movie was new and i wanted to see the movie only because it was filmed in Montreal. But i never got around to it.

I Completely forgot about that!!!!!!!!

Since the STM was getting rid of all of them I suppose there was no better city at the time to film that and destroy a few Newlooks. Unless they did it in one take, or unless it wasn't really destroyed but it probably was.

It seems to be at the corner of President-Kennedy and University so the Métro station would be McGill.

I have a picture of the bus just after it got painted for that movie. There was 2 Montreal New Looks painted for that movie in the same colors. One was the real 24-045 and the other was a 23-XXX New Look, which they renumbered 24-045 as well. The fake 24-045 got smashed, but the real one didn't.

Well I just finished watching Sonatine...

The moral behind the story is a sad one... The movie itself was prettybad though, no shock there, horrible acting, horrible dyalogue etc etc.. But the moral and story line certainly makes it worth it. And of course The old montreal bus and metro scenes from the 80s!!!!!!! My favorite parts were when the MR 63 made the loud air release noise at one point at Jolicoeur, even tho it was an MR73 at some points. Also same thing at LG for the loud air release (I call it a women exhailing loudly sound), and getting to see Plamondon when it was brand spanking new! Also that Plamondon destination sign above the escalators at LG was priceless!!!!!!
