Metrobus Transit

Buried in the minutes from last month's transit committee meeting, Metrobus is purchasing a new Vicinity bus, delivery expected in August. This is an option from the 2018 order and should have identical specs.

Also, starting Monday, route 6 is being shortened to no longer go downtown and a new route 20 is being created to provide express service to the Galway area of St. John's.

As an update, bus # 2134 is showing up on their Timetrack widget on their home page. Not sure which bus (if any) this replaced

If I had to guess, probably the start of replacements for the 2001 Novas, which are now at 20 years of age.

Apparently, Metrobus took delivery of one more 30' Vicinity in 2021. Does anybody know what the fleet number is? I would guess 2134 but want to confirm the number. Thanks.

EDIT: I just read up a few posts and saw that it is #2134. According to the Manager of Metrobus, there have been no retirements as a result of the new bus.

Hey I’m a longtime transit fan! To confirm everyone’s questions about #2134 it isn’t replacing the 01’s thank goodness! The 2001’s aren’t going anywhere for another 3-4 years!

As well ZIP Service has started for Metrobus with 15-20 minute service in the mornings and evenings weekdays for routes 1,2,3&10. Route 5 has been discountiued. I’m also on YouTube by the way

I've discovered a couple of things looking through the Metrobus commission meeting minutes:

  • The 2001 order was originally for 10 buses, but the order was subsequently reduced to 6 based on operational requirements; the other 4 were purchased by Codiac Transpo for #s 500-503
    • Codiac recently retired those 4 buses, and Metrobus purchased 2 of those (not sure which 2) for parts to repair their existing units
  • The next Metrobus order will be for 8 hybrid buses, with the hopes of replacing the 2001s and adding 2 additional units to their fleet

Do you know when they plan on Retiring the 6 2001’s we have here? Bus #0151 was taken off the road but not scrapped, so I assume they are fixing that bus just like they did with bus #0150 last year. And with hybrids I assume it’s going to be The 30ft buses isn’t it? For the eight that will retire the 2001s?
