So I heard a driver and the inspector talking and 162 is going to be a Nova. He said it should be here by the end of the month. Apparently itll be used with 161 for the 9 Downtown/College

With that comes the death of an other Orion...

Sarnias 2017 budget proposal will be discussed November 7. This potentially includes:

"Sarnia Transit upgrades – $3.4 million to purchase 12 new buses, on-board cameras and other upgrades"

At this point we shouldn't know which of these 12 to be 40 foots or 30 foots, or if any would be new or used for that matter. But good on Sarnia Transit to really get things into high gear to upgrade their system to be purchasing 12 buses like that. Wonder what type of upgrades to their routes would be if anyone knows?

12 buses would replace everything from 1990 all the way up to 2007. That includes half of the Care-A-Van fleet. Their buses are in good condition and the system is 100% accessible anyways. The system has always been the same when I was a kid, and with Sarnia's population shrinking there isnt much need to upgrade the system except maybe add more service to route 10 Vidal.

3.4 million divided by 12 is less than 300,000 per bus. Obviously this would include some cutaways as 40 foot buses generally go for around half a million.

A very reliable source has confirmed that Sarnia Transit has purchased Durham Region Transit # 8050 (2003 Orion V). It will be interesting to see this bus in service in Sarnia but it probably means that one more Orion 1 will be retired.

Got to make a trip there! thanks to you and another great source as well. This is great news.

If that is the case would make a nice spring 2017 charter.

Maybe 163

Looks like 163 has been assigned.   IIRC Sarnia usually numbers by build year.

They also go by the year they acquire them. The 1990 Orion 1s were bought in 2004 and were numbered 041 to 044. It will either take the number 162, 164 or if they do decide build year then 034.

162 is already taken. I know this because ive driven by the garage and have seen it in there. The fleet number is in the same place as 161 (wich is different from 151 & 152) and 161 was out doing the 9 Lambton College. So it will most likely be 164 for the Orion V

But the paint job on those ones is the old paint job...we have a new paint job

oh true, less grey on the sides then~~

they really shouldn't retire the three 92's Orion V back then, where they were only 10-12 years old when they get rid of them.............kinda waste~~

Omg i know right! They retired them because the ridership was "too low" and then 10 years later they turn around and buy 5 40footers
