9445 was in a fire several years ago and the vehicle was unfortunately retired.

According to their website, they currently operate 15 regular buses and 10 Handi Transit buses. I see too they no longer operate in the evenings. We fought for years to try and keep the night service, which used to run until 11:45 across all routes. In 1996, Dial a Bus replaced the fixed route night service after 6PM and all day Saturday. Night and Saturday service to St. Andrews ended by 3-3-97.

Not sure what the 15th bus is. 8558? 8557?

The wiki is slightly off when it comes to former routes. Can someone add this info? From September 1994 to at least 1998 the routes were as follows:

1. Pitt/St. Andrews

2. Brookdale/Second

3. Riverdale/Montreal Rd

4. Glengarry/McConnell

5. Cumberland/Sunrise Acres

Lastly, it seems Tim is no longer with the city. Not sure who the new maintenance/fleet manager is.

The 15th bus is 8558, as 8557 was sold to Kingston several years ago along with 7828, 8761, and 8762.

When I visited in July the garage staff told me that the Orion V CNG were to be retired by the end of the year. Number 9449 was parked out back with some parts missing.

Strange... the 3 CNG's left then (9446 to 9448) must be hidden really good because I saw no sign of them or the GM Classic 8558. They were not on the road last weekend and I got a quick look in the garage and didn't see anyting but Orion II's and other Ford Handicap buses. I'll have to go back one of these days again to check it out in more detail.

I saw a couple of the CNGs when there a couple of months ago, as well as 8558.

It is possible that they were retired, but with Cornwall they tend to park them out back for a while.

BTW checked through my rosters and for Cornwall dated March 31, 2005 bus 9445 was stricken from the list.

I did see it in July 2004 and at that point it was already retired with fire damage.

Those routes lasted until May 2002. Our routes have changed 3 times since. Our are current routes are the following:

1 Pitt/McConnell

2 Sunrise Acres/Riverdale

3 Montreal Road/Brookdale

61 Community Service East

62 Community Service West

We still in the evening on hourly service between 7:15 and 11:30 Mon-Fri, and 6:15 and 11:30 on Saturdays.

On another note, does anyone have any news when Cornwall is to receive the new EZ Riders we're supposed to get for 2008?

Thanks SDG. Have we met? That's a pretty creative user ID.

Can someone clarify the wiki entries for 6805, 7724 and 7725? None of those were part of the original fleet. Just wondering if anyone has photos of those? The only 77s in my time were 7722 and 7723. I wonder if the wiki table should be broken out to have a special chart just for the second hand acquisitions? Also need to note the dates of acquisition and disposal. Does anyone have those details for these three?

As well, the following 78s were refurbished in 1995-96: 7825, 7826, 7829 and 7824. After 1998, 7827 and 7828 plus at least one of the 77s were refurbished. The classic silver fluting and comfy bench seats gave way to white painted fluting and hard plastic seats.

Changes made to the Wiki. Thanks for the info.

What buses in the Retired fleet table were part of the Handi Transit fleet, if any?

I understand that the Might Mites and all the Orion IIs were Handi Transit.

Also you could at least organize the chart as so that they are based on the fleet number, not the year.

What buses in the Retired fleet table were part of the Handi Transit fleet, if any?

Thanks for making the changes!

The Handi-Transit and Community Service buses tended to interchange between those two different services even though they had different markings. All were small, short wheelchair buses however I don't recall the 81, 82s and 89s being used for Community Service. I think that started with the 8733 and 9036 which could do both services since they were low floor. So, from your retired chart, everything from 8130 through 9651 was Handi Transit/Community. What I would suggest is changing the name of the table to "Handi Transit/Community Service roster" and then perhaps two versions, one each for retired vs current. The current Handi-Transit/Community roster is accurate as shown in your existing table.

An interesting footnote to add about these small buses was that when they first started dial a bus in November 1996 they did use these small buses on the three evening zones but in short order they had switched to 94s! What a feeling to have a gigantic V CNG travel on all sorts of weird streets in the evening with only a couple people on board! Those small buses had the crap beat out of them in rough quasi-taxi service so possibly the 94s were better suited to the rigours of that type of service? Not really sure why this occured, maybe SDGTA can tell us?

7724 and 7725 were not second hand, they were acquired new, then sold on relatively quickly.

Really? First time I've heard of this. Did it happen before the 78s were delivered? As you know, the last two digits are a sequential count, so 7824 followed 7723, 9445 followed 9244 etc. Or did they renumber the 78s after they got rid of those 77s?

Also, I wonder if 6805 might be that ancient fishbowl that they got around 1999 or 2000, from TTC perhaps? A friend of mine got some shots of that old thing and I don't think it stayed around for very long.

Even if 7724 and 7725 were original purchases, I still think a separate small chart should be created to differentiate the second hand purchases 6805, 7112, 8557, 8558, 8761 and 8762 from the rest of the fleet. The last two digits can be a clue as to when these were acquired, based on how they fit with the original fleet. For example, 0360, 8761, 8762, 0363 tells us those 87s actually came to Cornwall in 2003 and not 1987. 6805 and 7112 (mentioned elsewhere but not on this wiki and needs verification) were the exception, I don't know how they chose those fleet numbers, maybe they left them the way they came.

Also, 9550 came in 1995, not 1994. I would have to check my notes and photos to see when it arrived but I remember the 94s had been around for a little while. There was a colourful loaner beforehand that had the same license plates BH5-756, I think it came in the summer of 1995 and 9550 came after the loaner was returned.

6805 was from the states (Florida I believe) not the TTC, although there were some ex TTC Old Looks used before the 75's arrived. Never heard of 7112.

I was always told that there were four 77's 7722-7725 serial C517-C520 respectively. 7724 and 7725 were sold to Stratford 7734 and 7733 respectively before the 78s arrived.

Regarding 9445. When I was in Cornwall in July 2004 I did see the bus, and although was asked not to take a photo of it it can be seen in the shot of 7722 and 7723 behind the pickup in this photo: http://johnsbusphotos.fotopic.net/p51320298.html

That would explain the order of Orion II CNG's in 1997 to use for Dial-a-bus and the Community Service. Though in 2005 they started using the 40' buses again for Dial-a-bus, mainly our '91 Classics and '92 Orion V's and eventually started bringing out the New Looks in the evening, due to the immense increase of evening ridership. (Back when the city had the school board contract). I remember having to stand up on an Orion II, it wasn't pleasant. I've also heard that many people complained to Cornwall Transit for using the Orion II's at night because of it's VERY noisy engine.

Thanks for making the changes!

Here is that strange bus that I am guessing might have been either 6805 or 7112. I can't read a fleet number anywhere. The seats inside are orange with black tops. This one came in 1998 and didn't stay around for long.

As for the 97s, yes I think the intention was to use them for dial a bus. And despite their fleet numbers those did not arrive until April 1998 and entered service late in the month and in early May. Since these are CNG, I am not sure why they are retiring the 94s when they still have the ability to fuel them due to keeping the 97s? Those 94s are nice buses and needed in peak times. Even the 92s were nice, yet the wiki says they are to retire by end of year? Wow.

I was only told that the CNG Orion Vs were to be retired, no mention was made of the diesel Orion Vs going, so I am not sure where this came from.

I would normally say that that bus is 7112 (assuming first two digits is the year). However, the tailgate doesn't match what should have been on a 1972 or 1968 GM!

That picture of the fishbowl looks like it could be ex-MBTA?

Well Cornwall Transit is "supposed" to be getting 3 El Dorado EZ-Riders for 2008 and 1 or 2 40 feet vehicles for 2009 or 2010. Likely to replace the Orion V CNG's. I doubt they will convert those buses to diesel. So far it doesn't look like they'll be replacing the Orion II's yet. But for all I know it could be kept under wraps just like they did when they purchased the 2005 GMC Crestlines for Handi-Transit. That was quite the eye popper when I first spotted those buses.

They told me that the EZ Riders will be there early next year.

After digging through my info I have a date of July 28, 1978 for 7724 and 7725 going to Stratford.

BTW here is a list of former TTC Old Looks (TDH-4512s) that were used by Cornwall before the 1975 New Looks arrived. TTC number was the same

1560, 1561, 1562, 1564, 1565, 1566, 1576, 1577, 1579, 1583, 1586, 1587, 1590, 1592, 1958

Wow that's great information. Cornwall Transit was formed in 1974, so I guess the buses you listed were the first ones used under city control. I have never seen pictures of any of them. There's a great book that was published on the Cornwall Street Railway last year, but it doesn't give any depth of info about the post-1970 period. Apparently the early 70s operation of transit under MacDonald was horrible.

Anyway, thanks for the info about 7724 and 7725. Do you know the reason? I might speculate it was due to capacity requirements? The 75-77 models were 35' while the 78s were 40' and had much more capacity. Was there a spike in ridership in 1978? Or city budget problems?
