Translink fleet overhaul watch

MCW Metrobus

Recommended Posts

I did see what appeared to be a freshly repainted D60LF, no ads on driver's side, on the SB Highway 99 offramp for Steveston Highway headed for RTC earlier today. I was walking on the overpass and it was already dark so I couldn't get a fleet number, but I suggest keeping an eye out for 8055.

R8055 was still undergoing body work on the 16th, so I don't believe it's possible for it to have already made it back to RTC. From my personal experience and observation, no bus has ever made it out of the Body shop (following refurbishment) and back onto the road in under two weeks time (especially not artics). In the highly unlikely event that it did, it would set a precedent, but for now it's safe to say you saw something else.

Alright. I did find it rather suspect seeing as how I did see it listed there. I sort of skimmed through that last report. That makes me wonder what it could be though, since buses hadn't been washed in quite a while because of the freezing cold.

You said it was dark; that's probably why whatever you saw looked cleaner that it might have actually been. Also note that some buses do maintain their good condition for quite some time following refurbishment.

November 20th, 2009

Repair Bays (Engine and Transmission Bays): (In order from Bays 1-10) Vacant, V7157, R9248, V7251, B7416, R7227, U/I D40LF(B7384?), V7258, V7235, S7308.

FOH/S: Door closed.

South Fence: R7109, S7337*, R9268, V7248, R7116.

East Wall: B8116.

Paint Booth (28): U/I LF (B8040-B8031?).

Paint Shop (22/23): Vacant, WVMT 712 (ex-CMBC 8102).

Body Shop (14): N/A - Door was closed.

Notes:

- R7121 is no longer in ETB 3, it's been in there for nearly two months! My records show that this bus has been in there since September 22nd until sometime this week. After several anxious months, Dave can finally chase a local refurb again.

- The paint booth door was barely open... AGAIN! Not to mention the fact that there was some sort of tarp over the front of the bus, but there was a small area that was not covered and I could clearly see that there was some sort of LF beneath it. The unit number was scratched off, so I could not tell EXACTLY what was there, but some thinking and observations led me to believe that it might be either B8031 or B8040. B8040 was in the paint shop last week and could very well be in it's next phase of it's refurb in the paint booth, but then again, so could B8031 since it could have made it in there within a week without a problem, and it's no longer in the body shop. Unfortunately, I have lost track of both 31 and 40 because I'm positive it's at least one of those two that are in there, but I can't say for sure. Only time will tell. Neither buses were listed on the tracking sheets.

- Four D60's parked at the NW corner of BTC North this morning. They were B8004, B3010, B3003, and B3006. I have no idea why they're here, but I'm not complaining either! Hopefully George can shine some light on this topic.

- While looking at the tracking sheet's I made sure I kept an eye out for B7408 sure enough I could not see it, so unless it's somewhere in maintenance, it's probably in PoCo. B7410 is still at BTC.

- S9267 was parked horizontally facing West in front of FOH/S.

- R7116 has a tarp over the front end of the bus held down by bricks placed on the roof of the bus. I did not notice any damage, but then again it's hard to see with a tarp over it. I would think that all it is are some leaks.

- P8093 has a regular bike rack again.

- V7157 has been marked "SOLD" on the passenger side of the windshield. :P

- An update on the HEV's is available here.

*Confirmed unit undergoing refurbishment

Next Scheduled BTC Check, Tuesday November 24th. - Rescheduled to Monday November 23rd.

7157 was sold?!

Yup, im pretty sure that R7112 will be used to show off the compass card and maybe used for operator training. From what I have heard, the compass card system will have a touch screen interface so another screen similar to the T-Mac will be installed and I am sure that they will interact with each other.

Do you know if 7112 will be in service?

7112 is the official Compass display bus. You will be seeing it more and more as the release of the Compass card draws near. It will be on public display at various events to show off information about the Compass card, inlcuding active card readers so people know what they will look like etc.

Oh, but in youre earlier post, you said 7157 had a sign 'sold" on the window.

I was hoping that the emoticon (in my initial post) would be a good indication of the fact that it was a joke; not on my part, but on the part of the maintenance staff (or mechanics) who like to have some fun from time to time too. Perhaps there is a legitimate reason for that window to have been marked that way (maybe that specific pane of glass was purchased); I don't know, but I do know that R7157 is still in service and that's really all that matters.

On another note, please do not bump frivolous posts from 2009. I'm sure you're well aware by now where you can check whether a bus is still in service or not; you can inquire about R7112 in the Compass thread.

I'm pretty sure P8088 was out ages ago after refurb.

It came back to BTC twice within the past few weeks; it was mentioned in my post dated August 19.

8011 and 8001 are in for engine repairs

Could you please post a link to the Flickr discussion?

'Translink Buses' states the following... (my responses below)

> 8001 and 8011 are at FOH to undergo work on their engines.

>> It is certainly possible, although their current location does not support that idea.

> 8009 is getting repaired.

>> If this statement was posted in past tense, then it would be correct (although it is obvious that any bus at FOH is undergoing some sort of repair). However, 8009 already departed FOH and briefly returned to service at BTC (it is probably back at STC by now).

> 7383, 8077 and 8087 are getting rebuilt, while 8083 might be rebuilt.

>> 8077 and 8087 are undergoing refurbishment, but I cannot speculate on 8083 (unlikely at this time); I do not believe that 7383 is at BTC.

> 9231 and 9252 are getting rebuilt.

> 9231 is undergoing refurbishment, but 9252 already underwent refurbishment; below is a photo of it completed, taken on June 7.

9252-20130607.JPG

> 7491, 9221, and 9236 are going to depart BTC tomorrow.

>> Perhaps this is true for 7491 and 9236, but I do not believe 9221 to be at BTC.

> 7292 was repainted two weeks ago.

>> It was actually repainted a couple of months ago as part of its refurbishment, which I reported in my post (dated May 22). Chris also posted photos of it when it returned to service last month.
