Translink fleet overhaul watch

Recommended Posts

Since Edmonton has a garage spottings topic where members routinely post an inventory of what they see at garages, I thought I'd create one here, since I regularly check the Burnaby garage and post my sightings in a standard, formulated way, keeping track of what is in there, and how long it spends there.

From now on, regular BTC notes will be posted and analyzed in this topic. This includes anything pertaining to refurbishments in progress and vehicles in repair.

Please continue to post any and all sightings of vehicles that are in service, in the general sightings thread. This thread is to be used chiefly as an archive of the contents of BTC, as reference material, so that if and when I or any other member wishes to consult the "BTC notebook" to determine when a certain vehicle was in repair, and for how long, he doesn't need to dig around in the general sightings thread for this information. In other words, it's meant to be more organized, seeing as my notes are as such. :)

Analysis and comparison is very welcome here, for instance how long one refurb or repair job took compared to another.

So, without any further ado, I'll begin with BTC overhaul notes from today.

BTC - JUNE 4 2007

IN BODYSHOP: V7271, unidentified sweep-scheme D40, V7172, unidentified D40LF stripped down to a skeleton as seen from the rear, V7216, V7190, V7250, V7193, V7295, V7169, B7279*

IN PAINTSHOP: unidentified D40LF (I suspect this is probably V7230)

AGAINST EAST WALL: B3013, B8047, R8065

SOUTH FENCE: S7346, R7108, V7198*, B7407, V7228*, S7311*

IN REPAIR: B7409 (?), R9253, S7324*, V7185*, S7322*, N3148, N3253 (?), V7207*, B3014, B8010, R7156

* Denotes fresh refurb

Some analysis:

- B7279 is another refurb that has come out of nowhere. Though I suspected in the back of my head it might have gone into refurb as I had not seen it in a while, I also hadn't ruled out the possibility that it was still running around but I just never saw it in service as I don't go to Burnaby territory all that often. I hadn't seen it inside the shops either, and now it's close to completion.

- That skeleton D40LF that's inside the bodyshop has not moved since the last time I saw in there, and I am going to conclude that it is 7342, the fire victim. I can't think of anything else that bus could be.

- 7250 and 7295 are the two latest arrivals in the bodyshop for refurb. They were preceded by 7190 and 7193, which are still in progress. 7185 and 7207 will probably be the next ones to go home.

- I am still unsure as to the status of 7172 and 7271. Both of these buses are in the bodyshop now, but were in the repair shops first. 7172 doesn't appear to have changed position or appearance since the last time I saw it in the bodyshop (May 16th), so it could just be in for minor touch-ups or something. We'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks to Bill Wong for making a brief report from BTC..........V7228 is in one of the repair bays now, meaning something else came out, and I'm curious to know what bus would that be!

Photos from RIGHT INSIDE FOH!

V7230, freshly repainted in paint scheme, inside FOH!

P7342, fire victim, still waiting to get 100% fixed, which probably would take another few months!

B7281 is now in refurb-land!

Enjoy!

Isn't that the one that I photographed last month at Coquitlam Station running on a POCO run? I believe it was!

That is correct! I have a shot of it as well, it was running route 701 at the time. It is one of the small group of 1998 D40LFs that have been simply all over the place since the trolley crisis back in February/March.

I'm not big into the whole "detailed" BTC reports but I have some notes.

S7311 is gone, so it's must be back at STC

S7346 is sitting outside the repair bays.

There's a unidentified Orion V Suburban in one of the repair bays.

And that's all I can remember :)

Since nobody else likes to file the full reports that I do...

BTC - JULY 4, 2007

BODY SHOP: V7238, V7170, V7295, V7271*, unidentified refurbished D40LF*, V7177, P7342, V7179, B8008, B7281

PAINTSHOP: u/i red D40LF

EAST WALL: B3006, R8092

SOUTH FENCE: B7428, N3180, V7250*, N3228, N3203

REPAIR BAYS (starting at 1): B7407, S7316, V7228*, S7311*, R7108, V7198*, V3122, u/i D60LF, V7174

Also spotted R9227 heading north on Boundary at Lougheed, this was probably on a maintenance test from FOH.

Some analysis:

The two unidentified buses are likely two of the following three: V7190, V7193, V7216. Where the third one has gone, I don't know, BUT I think one of them was an accident victim. In the recent past, accident victims have gone straight home after being repainted, skipping the repair bays... so it's possible they may have skimped on a full refurb for whichever one is missing. My timeline isn't fine enough for me to determine which of the two buses is which - look back to Dave's pictures, he spotted all three of them still in the shops. Though I have a feeling 7216 may be somewhat behind the other two as it sat out back stripped down while the other two were in the shop on May 16.

According to the down-stat report I got from FOH, V7193 and V7271 were both listed as "MVA (Motor vehicle accident) under $5000", same deal with V7230 and V7169..........so, there ya go!

Time-wise, here are the exact dates of these buses going into FOH

V7216 - 02-MAY-2007

V7190 - 09-MAY-2007

V7193 - 09-MAY-2007

V7169 - 09-MAY-2007

V7271 - 18-MAY-2007

V7250 - 31-MAY-2007

V7295 - 31-MAY-2007

B7281 - 11-JUN-2007

V7238 - 14-JUN-2007

But, they might not be back in service according to this order........for instance, V7169 is already back in service before V7216 / 7190 and 7193!

Time for Chris's famous report. I couldn't get a good view of anything as Transit Security (Unless it had a S prefix LOL) was around but S7316 and S7318 are both in the repair bays. On Monday I'll do a complete run around if I can.

For anyone who does the overhaul check you'll be glad to know that the pathway along the repair bays has had the grass cut and it's all flat now.

The two unidentified artics are probably B8008 and R8078. I'm pretty positive about 8008 but 8078 is just a guess.

Are 7171, 7173 and the other 717x all repainted? Or are they in old colours?

The bus only can flxed in Btc?
BTC is a full garage and also does overhaul work (engine work, body work and paint).

Most of the buses I saw were in old colors I think.
