M. Parsons
Some pics from April 7. 9672 leading 522 back to Scotford with 5350 and 5357. 9666 with IC 3140, and 5377 heading for Walker. This is most likely L556, possibly a second section. L556 often comes in earlier in the day and usually has lumber loads from Boyle. This was a relatively short train with mostly coke loads. Could have came from Lloydminster too for that matter.

awstott
Went out train foaming with Martin yesterday. It wouldn't be a complete trip on the Edson sub without running into good old 412. Here she is just outside Carvel. 412 by Andrew Stott, on Flickr Next we have 198 with a friendly wave at Wabamun. Martin jokingly says ding ding ding ding as we get to the crossing were going to shoot at and the next thing the lights start going... 198 by Andrew Stott, on Flickr Next we have 310 at Hargwen. This is quite the mixed up train - intermodal, grain, tanks and who knows what else. CN 310 by Andrew Stott, on Flickr Now we're west of Hinton at Solomon's curve just outside of Swan Landing where the Grande Cache sub joins the Edson sub. 111 is a bit of a monster with 3 units spread through the train. No. They were going to demo 2 units, but those instead went to CP. Given that the T4 Gevo (what they buy) has a much stronger reputation than the new ACe, I highly doubt they will buy any in the near future. Also locomotive purchases seem to be slowing down in North America, and most railways are reducing orders and have lots of stored power. The only order EMD got was a 100 unit order by the UP, which is arguably UP trying to keep a 2nd loco manufacturer in business. Also GE is usually cheaper, especially with their financing deals. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see more ACe-T4s, but if you're spending several million per locomotive, you'll want a reliable and proven model (a standard which EMD has yet to reach). Railfanmatt4
That's depressing, I saw one in November and I wasn't able to get a good shot/video of it. So I skipped it. If I would've known I would have chased it down. This got me genuinely by surprise!
awstott
My last shot of one. Taken Jan 30. Seems this is the only one that made it back out for a last hurrah from what I've seen all over the rail groups on facebook. M. Parsons
557 coming into Edmonton with a trio of SD40-2(W)'s. A powerful thunderstorm passed through Edmonton and areas North the previous evening and it seems 557 encountered a fallen tree at some point given the remains wedged in the pilot!
KMB_BUS
CN 2415 (C40-8M) is the lone unit on this westbound consist as seen on the CN York Sub, pulling nothing but autoracks. CN 2120 (8-40C) leads a trio heading eastbound on the York Sub, CN 5729 (SD75I), CN 4136 (GP9RM). IC 1008 (SD70) as mid train helper.
M. Parsons
Productive day today. Arrived at the diesel shops to find 522 with it's trio of SD40-2(W)'s dropping off it's train. Passing by the bypass tracks on the Yellowhead, we saw a WB stack train with a pair of SD60's. We relocated to another spot and caught the train departing from Walker. Hearing 418 coming in on the Westlock, we headed to Dunvegan Junction. 418/419 often rate interesting power. It's certainly not rare to find a SD40-2 or GP40-2 coming in from McLennan for a visit to the locomotive shops. This train didn't disappoint. Granted, it was a 1 hour+ wait for it to actually depart Dunvegan. While watching 418 entering the mainline, I turn around, and let out a pretty foamy "Holy shit" as 1501 has snuck up behind us. Acting on a hunch, we head further along the Westlock Sub and sure enough 1501 has proceeded through Dunvegan Junction, and then reversed onto the Westlock Sub. She was moving at a good clip, but, we gave chase towards St. Albert. We approached the crossing at mile 4.79 hoping we might see the RDC somewhere. Tentative plan was to cut it off at Morinville. No need to. She was just about to return across the crossing when we reached it. The unit then headed back towards Edmonton, so back towards Dunvegan we head. The Dunvegan Yard is of course a former NAR yard. Today, all it plays host to are covered hoppers in potash service waiting to be taken to Scotford Yard, as well as some minor CN facilities including this facility where 1501 has been spotted in the past. Knowing that, was why Andrew suggested heading that way in the first place. Well, turns out that was eventually the destination for the RDC, so we got another shot at shooting it. Given that switches needed to be thrown, we had a little more time to shoot it and get our shots.
