Welland has acquired St. Catharines Transit 92 and is now 1172. Dedicated for the regional service.

Welland rebadged this one under a new number. I also saw on the wiki that we are also operating 2 D40LFs from St Catharines for regional. They are units 0750 and 0751. Sorry, no pics.

I was on #2 as 1152 the other day. The 1145 got the same paint job. It was out covering the 3.

1156 and 1160 are now retired and listed for sale on GovDeals. I do believe only 1161 and 1163 are left as far as the city marked units are concerned.

I'm pretty sure 1161 has now bitten the dust, leaving 1163 as the only in-town D40i in the fleet. Might I add, good riddance?

Vicinity units 1170 and 1171 both entered service today.

A lot more has happened than that since May:

Welland Transit announced that the old manager, Alfred Stockwell recently passed away. He was 68 years old, and people from Mississauga, Welland, and St Catharines laid him to rest.

Welland renumbered the 1172, but I forget the new number. We're also running two ex-St Catharines D40LFs as regional, numbered as 0750 and 0751.

Unit 1169 has been renumbered 1850.

Welland Transit is now running all routes under 500 series numbers ( 501 Broadway, etc). Routes 4, 5, 6, and 8 received modifications.

All D40i's, except for 1163 are retired. 1163 is used only as a backup unit.

67 and 68 are once again running Brock and NOTL, leaving a reduced in-town fleet.

1172 is now 0251. I do wonder now that 1144-45 got the new colors, if all the other vehicles will get the same treatment....

Exactly.

However, they did change the "flags" on the poles of each respective platform. I'm not sure if they are programming the signs, yet.

Welland does seem to be running low on units, right now. The only backup units they currently have available are 1144, 1145, 1149, and 1163. 1146 may be pulled soon for a transmission rebuild, though, since it does seem to be having minor issues.

I think they might, one by one. I haven't seen 1149 over the past few days. I wonder what that would look like in the new scheme.

1155 died this morning, just around the corner from the garage. There was no 508 (Woodlawn)for the 7:45 am run, which overstressed the 503 (First Ave, running 1162), due to the weight of passengers on board. 1163 was in for 1159, this morning (508-501 Broadway), 1144 has been reassigned from backup to 505 (Lincoln - Wellington), and 1145 was assigned to cover 1155. What a day.

So, THAT's why 1165 and 1166 have been alternating as 504 Fitch. They must've sent it for a rebuild of some sort.

Vicinity 1170 entered service earlier this year, and judging by other units brought in around the same time, it shouldn't have too high mileage, so I am just thinking it might have been a TSB that made WT send it to Cityview.

Weekly bulletin from TechnicianKeith:

SEPTEMBER 24

Regional 0751 had to go in for service around noon. 1152 subbed in as 75/70 regional from Welland.

1146 blew a power steering line today, spewing fluid between Deere Street and Wellington Street. The driver reportedly white knuckled the whole way along the route, describing the steering situation as "a little tight." Unit replaced by 1144.

1152 started out the day as 502 to Rice Road, ending it's in town stint around 11, when the driver's wiper motor reportedly died. The motor was quickly fixed, and the unit was rotated to regional duty. Replaced by 1145.

Welland has added a Telus ad to the side of 1163. Judging by that, it's here to stay... For now. However, the POS id40 has developed some serious belt squeak...

No sign of changes to Welland's Clever Devices systems in terms of route numbers. The new 500 series remains internal. Newly revised route 506 has yet to receive an update including the new stops to the route.

Drivers are circulating rumors of more buses being ordered. I have heard some reports of more Grand West Vicinity units, some talk on some NFI xCelsior Charges, some Novas. City of Welland has not released any such information.

Saw Vicinity 1170 in Oakville today pulled over at a gas station on Bronte a road & QEW. Assuming it was heading to/from cityview.

I spoke to a driver this evening. She said she can confirm that two units were sent to Cityview: 1170 and 1149.

1170 needed routine maintenance. 1149 was sent up on the hook because the garage couldn't get it started recently. The funny thing is, I thought the 1163 would die first, considering it has over 4,847,000 km on the odometer, but 1149 only had around 600,000. 49 may get a repaint, in the process.

By the way, does anyone know if NFI has issued any TSBs for D40LFRs recently? The 1146 keeps making trips too and from the garage, mostly for power steering issues.

Weekly update:

Not much has occurred.

1146 has returned to service, starting out at the Port Link on Tuesday, then back to 506 Ontario for regular service.

Still no word on what's happening with 1149, since the vehicle has been sent away to Cityview regarding a no-start situation (as us mechanics call them).

1155 called the garage the other morning, asking for assistance regarding the farebox. This hasn't been the first call this week regarding bills jamming in the fareboxes.

Belt squeak has been fixed on 1163, prolonging its service (*wince*). No sign of any other former Welland units on GovDeals.

Weekly update:

1146 is back at the garage, again, for unknown reasons.

1145 is in for an air system overhaul. Operator stated that she lost all air spring pressure earlier this week as 505. She blew both springs out and lost the air brakes. 1145 was also suffering from a knock in the brakes.

1149 has developed a brake knock similar to the 1145. Drivers will bring the vehicle to a complete stop, and the brakes will knock and rattle.

There are currently two buses still displaying old screen messages. 1144 and 1146 have not been reprogrammed.

1155 has not been at the terminal this week, meaning it's either playing spare or in for extensive repairs.

Still no word on any new units. According to one operator, GovDeals doesn't have anything worth buying, right now, and the budget for the rest of this year doesn't call for more units. I guess that puts an end to the rumors.

Welland has now upgraded the fareboxes on all units to print, issue, and read Genfare transfers, but has not trained operators to use them. I had to instruct one this morning on how to use it based off of the St. Catharines method. They will keep the old transfers on board in case of machine failure.

1146 has still not returned to the terminal for service. No word on where it is. 1144-45 and 1164 have alternated as 506 to cover.

Earlier today, the 1155 broke down at the corner of Dorothy and East Main Streets. The driver said the dash indicated there was low coolant in the system. We managed to limp the bus back around the block, but not before it could stall out twice more. I believe the 1155 may be out for an engine rebuild at 430xxx km. 1168 was brought in to replace it as 501/503.
