Fairfax Connector are getting Gilligs. They'll be replacing the Orion VIIs. First time they ordered something that wasn't from New Flyer recently lol.

Source?

Will they be 29 footers similar to Ride On/PRTC/The Bus's units?

I did not even know Fairfax Connector ordered these kinds of buses from Gillig before. I'm shocked!

Also, with these buses started at 7951, the highest number of the 2024 XD40s is now at 7950.

Are you sure there's an XD40 #7950? The highest one allegedly built thus far is #7946, yet the highest on I've seen is #7943.

I don't know, but someone put #7950 as the highest XD40 on the Fairfax Connector CPTDB Wiki page prior to the FFC Gillig reveal. I guess the page involving the 2024 XD40s hasn't been created yet.

Pretty sure the 2023 and 2024 XD40s are essentially one in the same. #7893-7950?

Any idea on the depot assignments of these? I bet most are going to Reston and maybe a few for West Ox.

Is this related to the redesign at all?

Barely any are going to Reston. A lot are going to Huntington to replace the 2010’s. Reston doesn’t need the XD40’s at all, they will be getting almost all of not all of the gilligs though.

There's a photo on facebook showing a couple of these are now delivered to West Ox depot (not sure which units). I was talking about the Advantages, not the XD40s.

Ah, my bad

And yeah, there will definitely be some left over for West Ox to have to replace 70-74, 83, but yeah most will be at Reston.

Fairfax Connector will now permit foldable bikes and scooters on the bus beginning next week (June 22); however, they must be folded at all times.

More here:

https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/sites/connector/files/Assets/Documents/PDF/scooter/micro-mobility-policy-2024.pdf

I think more agencies are gradually allowing this. HART in Tampa, FL has allowed folding bikes on board for some time (I think since 2018). PSTA followed suit about a year later.
