TTC Orion VII Retirement Tracker

Is TTC seriously phasing them out because they're diesel powered or cause they're  "old" (the latter of which isn't really true)?

Remember that they've de facto had a 12 year lifespan for the last 6 years or so. It hasn't been feasible to execute up to this point but technically they are, by the TTC's definition, past their best before date.

The fact though that the long unreliable NGs have retired in only miniscule amounts since the big culls during COVID, while they're pulling younger diesel buses from service, definitely smells of politics though.

Definitely political. We all know the Orion hybrids are worse. They weren't good 15 years ago. They're definitely worse after wear and tear plus the same garbage componets.

In saying that, a flip on part,  I saw 1000 on its way to Mount Dennis. Good to see

So is the plan for the NG hybrids to be the very last Orions to retire, in that case?

I would assume so, being "clean" buses.

Even now it is ironic to think that 10 years ago they were discussing retiring the 1000s early and converting the rest to diesel.

All the 1700s and 3/4 of the 1500s did end up retiring early. Too bad the 1700s retired before the 29 Dufferin and 52 Lawrence West swap division. It would been nice to see a change.

I'm grateful the 8100s and 8300s made it to Queensway before being shove out the door.

I contradict there’s nothing to be grateful about seeing senior buses on their final legs move to Queensway for a short period of time before hitting the graveyard for good

Actually, there’s nothing like riding a good old bus before it retires. It’s almost the same as riding a brand new one straight out of delivery.

What about the other 20+ 8000's at North queen.

Probably still there. I’m sure that a few have moved back to be decommissioned and towed out for scrap.

I love to grab a bunch of photos of them on Queensway routes before they become genetic Nova routes. How about that.

I was down at Hillcrest again today. I took a better look at 1562, and I’ll say that it’s inactive rather than retired as it still had presto equipment onboard

It's safe to say that 1562 is now retired. It was moved back Malvern and parted out. Fleet numbers have been removed.

I agree. The fleet variety that Queensway currently has, it is nice to see. Being at a 99% NOVA division, I wish we could have had a few of the Orion NGs sent our way before they are finally retired off. Driving a NOVA day in and day out with no end in sight, it does get very repetitive.

All of sudden, Queensway division became a retirement home for the older fleets..

Given 8100-8219 and 8300s are retiring faster than I thought, there could be a chance which all of them could be gone by the end of the year.. right?

They are retiring at a rate much faster than anticipated but I think it’s a safe bet that many of the 8100s and 8300s will make it into the new year.

I also think all the remaining 2012 3Gs at Wilson will eventually migrate to Queensway at some point it’s the only logical place for them to move, NOT the east end.

Queens way always has been where ttc sends the odd balls
