TTC Orion VII Retirement Tracker

Maybe this one will replace 8091. Who knows.

Highly unlikely given that the “low floor” part of the bus has the interior gutted and long windows removed. One additional bar that held the 3-point seatbelt for the mobility areas was added to the drivers side as well

I never understood the hype on e vehicles. They are literally not better then diesels.

EVs do have fewer lifetime emissions than diesels which is the main reason why they keep getting ordered
but obviously performance wise diesels and hybrids are far superior to most current generation electrics

It depends on the perspective. The people who are actually paying for the buses think electric is better. A bunch of transit geeks would have to run city hall to say otherwise.

They can't go bragging that diesel buses accelerate faster but they can convince people they are helping the planet by going green.

They are also the ones who are getting the engines throttled so operators aren't running over people and making the doors close slowly so they don't crush people. Their priorities are fewer accidents and not making buses run faster. They don't care if it takes longer as they aren't taking the buses.

It's all about feelings and optics. And to be honest, a lot of conspiracy theories to add.

The whole battery production alone is probably way more toxic to the environment than the production of Diesel engines. Same thing with disposing of batteries. Then the ethical part of having children in Africa savaging for raw materials for battery production.

And then you have infurstruture issues, charging and how long it takes, and range issues. And many others. They're also much heavier, so lots road and facility issues.

And with EV cars, there's insurance issues, getting parts, and a faster depreciation issues.

But who cares about all that, they're green, less pollution. Let's focus on that small aspect of not emitting anything.

1368 has been retired.

Thanks @BusFanForever, come to think of it, when was the last time that bus was in service? It was a WiFi bus for a few weeks.

On the other note, #1390 and #1397 are still at Arrow, retired with parts salvaged post-decommissioning but not removed from property just yet..

Has anyone tracking the Orions at Mount Dennis decommissioned and towed off property lately?

Probably when it was involved in that fire or whatever the incident was.

On another note, 8114 has been retired. 8104 8113 and 8204, against all odds, returned to service.

8196 is at Hillcrest, 8101 8124 have been in the dead yard for almost 2 weeks.

8197 is tracking again, in the dead yard as well.

What unit

1368. It was back in service a few days after the fire suppression went off. The fire suppression tank was replaced before returning to service

Since HCRR passed on the OG VIIs, could the TTC donate a OG VII bus(es) to any transit heritage foundation such as CTHF or TEC of Ireland for preservation/colllection? Seashore Trolley could be in doubt though. But I know TEC is taking care of two GM Fishbowls over there and I wonder if the TTC could consider talking to them to donate 2 VIIs somewhere down the road. Even CTHF had #8257 that they got in 1999 until they hauled it away for scrap in 2014 for no reason.

I’m sure that there’s a good possibility.

The TTC will not actively canvass heritage foundations for Orion preservation. If foundations want an Orion, they need to submit a request.

As for the TTC, the two Orions will likely be the last buses they choose to preserve within the commission.

What's the source of this info? What about the Novas? They've become as common now as the VIIs were a decade ago.

I’m sure they will preserve a Nova eventually. What would make sense is one unit from 3100-3369 and one from 7000-7133.

Regardless, what is the status of 8079 the other unit to be preserved?

Also can anyone confirm 8063’s status?
