TTC Orion VII Retirement Tracker

Recommended Posts

I was on a stretch of Jane yesterday and, indeed, lots of OG hybrids as well as a mix of new and old livery NG hybrids out on the route. Like the old days. Where's that old "diebrid" thread??

8014, 8017, 8072 and 8091 might be the next to retire.

These “retirement” sources are not reliable I just saw both 8014 and 8017 running strong on 123 Sherway this afternoon

8017 8032 8048 8084 are now retired. There are now only 23 80xx buses remaining. Get those photos while you still can.

They will be missed when they are all retired.

Quick question, when are the rest of the 8000s going to be retired?, at this pace, maybe mid summer to end of summer.

Wonder what's happening to the 8000-8011 airport busses

Half of the orion airport buses were retired and decommissioned between January and March 2023. The rest of them were converted into shelter buses.

HCRR has declined the offer to keep an Orion VII.

8079 & 8091 have been chosen to be preserved.

I'm guessing there's no chance of 7913 or 7952 being preserved.  Oh well at least we are still getting our long awaited OG diesel preserved. I'm wondering if there's any chance of a OG hybrid being preserved since they're a great example of some the first HEV buses produced.

They should've accepted it. They run really well. Why not just re-do the project the TTC did with #7423..?

The reason Halton rejected it is because their area of interest is rail. What would the point of accepting one be, if it's going to fall by the wayside and be scrapped in 30 years?

7423 was not a TTC project, and as noble as that project vision was it would be fairly lofty to describe that as preservation.

When has anything owned by hcrr ever been scrapped? Name some examples (bonus points if it doesn't exist anywhere else).

First and most obvious example:

I don't have the full list of the museum's collection from beginning to the current day, and their disposition, but if they didn't find homes, where do you think they would have ended up?

Then there are PCCs: A9 4560, acquired for parts after the inn it was a part of was closed in 1992, and scrapped in March 1994, and A11 4633, acquired in 1982 and scrapped in May 1997. And what fate do you think awaits 4386, 4426, and 4684, other than scrap?

Was that a one-of-a-kind model? Even though they claim to be focused on rail, they do have similar-looking buses too (E700/800 or something idk), and 8058 until a few years ago (which wasn't sent to scrap mind you).

Knowing the way of things here, they could've ended up anywhere from any other museum in the world to anyone's backyard.

They're survived by countless other units all over the continent, so... (a pcc is a pcc)

Who cares if something is a one of a kind model or if there's other PCCs that survive? You asked for an example of equipment that was scrapped, I gave you 3. Stop moving the goalposts.

I'm calling shenanigans on your assertion that a PCC is a PCC, too. There is as much visual similarity between an A1 and A12 as there is between an M1 and an H5, and to the general public, all M1-T1 subway cars AND all PCCs are interchangeable. By the parameters of your argument you should therefore be satisfied that something very like an H5 (two of them, in fact!) survives in a museum and you should quit your whinging, right?

Good point. Thank you for telling me about the Orions btw.
