These DD Buses are either at one of the repair depot(warranty work) or are no longer in service due to fire or other issues:

8010,8017.8038,8102,8134,8139 & 8155.

Either then 8017(tragic accident), I'm not sure which caught fire or in for warranty repairs?

8134 is at Thermo King in Vars when I went by this afternoon

The back looks...incomplete.

(cut out)

I notice that they've gone back to the older fleet number font that they used on the 8000s as well. It also appears that they're using it on all sides of the buses instead of only front or only side. Minor detail, but interesting nonetheless. They only put one rear fleet number this time instead of two.

One observation I had was that 8101-8160 have inconsistent fonts for fleet numbers, using both the font for the 8000s but also the new font as well in some places. 8101-8111 in particular only use the new font for the large fleet number at the rear if I recall correctly.

I think the new livery definitely gives these buses a much-needed refresh but I'm still used to the older livery. The back though, I'm not too impressed with.

Edit: I also don't see any cameras on the rear this time.

Thermo King? Do the buses not get their AC systems installed at the assembly plant? Or is this for something else?

Pardon my ignorance as I'm not that familiar with how the assembly process goes from a non-technical perspective.

OC Transpo contracts out their pre-delivery inspections. Thermo King has always been the vendor that has done the double deckers.

I'm sure it's where the rear destination sign is as there seems to be more bezel on the rear destination sign than previous orders, or its installed before revenue service by them or a 3rd party. No way would they not include a camera for backing up, that's downright dangerous!

For the double decker, it was actually Wajax, although some did end up at Thermo King (when it was previously located on Stevenage).

From what I can make out (it’s centred right above the top rear grill)

8001 to 8075 were delivered with light Arial numbers, with 8016's being weirdly stretched horizontally. They originally had a front fleet number inside at the top middle of the lower windshield (8002 had a serif font instead of Arial for this one). At some point a number of years ago, these buses had other numbers added, as well as the side fleet numbers boldened with a heavier font resembling Franklin Gothic. Top right rear numbers were also added.

8101 to 814...3? were originally delivered with the same fonts as the 8000s, minus the lower windshield, but most have not undergone the same treatment on the side numbers. Some have had numbers added, but I don't recall if they have top right rear numbers. The front numbers on the first batch of 8100s were originally small Frutiger numbers outside at the bottom centre of the top windshield.

814...4? to 8160 were delivered with Frutiger front and rear numbers, but a mix of Frutiger and Arial side numbers.

I noticed that on the wiki, 8161-8179 has been listed as having ISL9 engines in them. I thought they had L9s in them since they are 2020 models?

I also find it interesting that 8144-8160 have EPA 2013 ISL9 engines despite being 2017 models and 2017 being the year that the L9 replaced the ISL9.

Specs will be adjusted once the information becomes available.

The following are at Thermo King parked outside as of this morning (Mar 8):

  • 8162 (plated - 418 4BL; and being worked on by Thermo King staff with its engines on)
  • 8163 (plated - 418 3BL)
  • 8164 (plated - 418 8BL; and with its engines on)
  • 8165 (plated - 418 9BL; note there are two fleet number decals at the front of the bus -- "8165" next to the destination sign on the left, and "8160" on the top-deck front passenger window in the centre)
  • 8166
  • 8167 (plated - 419 0BL)
  • 8169
  • 8171
  • 8172
  • 8173
  • 8175 (new)
  • 8176 (new)

There is one unidentified unit with no fleet number in front (likely to have been peeled off), but the licence plate reads 418 2BL -- I do suspect it's 8161.

Not seen are: 8168 and 8170 - presumably inside the building.
