TTC Missing In Action Flexity Cars

Recommended Posts

This thread is to track the current status of the Bombardier Flexity fleet for the TTC. Ordinarily, these things have been reported on in the streetcar news thread or occasionally the MIA buses thread, but other information tends to bury these so I, and a few other forum members, figured the best solution would be to create a dedicated thread for tracking these cars. Where possible, the cause of absence in service is noted.

Currently MIA:

4401 - unrebuilt to production spec

4403 - frame welding (last seen February 18, 2019)

4404 - frame welding (last seen October 20, 2018)

4405 - frame welding (last seen April 5, 2019)

4407 - frame welding (last seen June 2, 2019)

4408 - frame welding (last seen June 26, 2019)

4409 - frame welding (last seen March 4, 2019)

4414 - frame welding (last seen August 2, 2019)

4420 - truck change (last seen November 19, 2019)

4457 (last seen January 24, 2020)

4471 - flood damage (last seen August 7, 2018)

4478 - flood damage (last seen August 7, 2018)

4485  - in need of new axle sets (last seen April 28, 2019)

4503 (last seen August 20, 2019)

4507 (last seen November 18, 2019)

Car 4411 was back in service this morning (Fri, Mar 6), after a downtime of 18 days due to a collision. Car 4400 has been at Hillcrest since yesterday evening, likely for VISION installation.

4422 did receive vision. It has a new steel crown above the cab at the front of the car. It was heading back to Leslie eastbound on Queen at Church I presume around 11:20 this morning

Big thanks go to @ttc rider for the current list of cars, who has been keeping Flexity records since 2015. The following cars are currently MIA. This information is reprinted with permission.

I decided to run through the car vehicle history. It took a while but here is what I found.

Previously MIA cars that went back into service:
4412 ran in service for 6 days between November 22-27 but has gone missing again.

4426 is and has been back for a bit now. It ran on the 504 today.

Now for some new MIA units

4411 last ran on November 26

4420 last ran on November 19

4507 last ran on November 18

4531 last ran on November 26

4554 last ran on November 17

4578 last ran on November 21

Also completely off topic here, but 4411 has a red panel where it should be white. Because of this it’s a favourite of mine, and just to check in on it I decided to look at its vehicle history. I noticed it had been missing, so that’s what prompted me to go through the rest of the fleet today.

Just an update for one of the cars listed as MIA, I spotted 4554 driving down queen WB at Bathurst this afternoon with (semi major) front end damage, no push truck or anything it in sight, was just being driven down queen, very surprised it could still be driven with the damage I seen

Looks like 4486 which is the VISION prototype has re-entered service.

Keep an eye on 4427. Car suffered damage from a failed pantograph while in service on Spadina.

4486 has been on 508 a lot lately for those on the lookout for it.

the panels probably craved in not a big deal.

4579 has been MIA since December 20. I'm told it was in a collision but I'm not sure if it happened then or was an earlier incident.

TransSee's got trip data for the car on December 20 so it seems likely that that's when the collision happened.

It did receive some damage. I think there were some dents and shattered glass near the front from photos I have seen. It still runs however.

Since streetcars are apparently cancelled/bustituted on the 508 for this board, where is the pinch point (other than possibly parts in the case of the crash units where bits not normally replaced may be needed) for getting some of these back on the road? Is it labour (in which case those working on the CLRV fleet will presumably start filling some gaps) or is it availability of LFLRV bays?
